December 18th 2009 www.eastchester.k12.ny.us Principal: Theresa Cherry — 793-6130, ext. 5102 Upcoming WINTER CONCERT Wed — Dec. 23 HALF DAY 11:15 Dismissal Holiday Recess _________ Thur & Fri Dec. 24 & 25 NO SCHOOL Holiday Recess _________ Mon — Fri Dec 28—Jan 1 NO SCHOOL _________ Mon — Jan 4 SCHOOL RESUMES _________ Mon — Jan 18 Martin Luther King Jr. Day NO SCHOOL _________ Thur — Jan 21 PTA Meeting Cafeteria 7:45 PM I am so proud of our students’ musical talents. Once again, they lit up the night at our annual Winter Concert last Monday evening. The parents were so flattering after hearing the orchestra, band and chorus perform. I’d like to thank Suzanne Greene, Katherine Ness and Joe Petrizzo for preparing the students so well. The children’s musical skills were evident in their playing and singing. It was easy to see on the students’ faces how proud they were of their accomplishments. Personally, I am honored to work with such a professional music staff and such fantastic students. The concert truly put everyone in the holiday spirit. Senior Citizens’ Breakfast The Senior Citizens of Eastchester and Tuckahoe were treated to a freshly prepared breakfast and the talents of our students and staff at our annual Senior Citizens’ Breakfast. As always, the seniors told me how much they look forward to this event all year and how wonderful the students and teachers are at the Anne Hutch School. Our staff rallied together to provide food and entertainment for members of our community. This was the second year that the staff actually prepared the breakfast for our guests. It spoke volumes when everyone worked together either cooking breakfast, providing entertainment, or just talking to the seniors. I know the students learned firsthand what KFC (Kindness Follows Caring) means at our school and it is something that will remain with them always. I am especially grateful to Gina Zohar, Vidya Bhat, Karen McCaffrey, Katherine Ness, Suzanne Greene, all the staff members who cooked and the students who served breakfast and performed for the seniors, the PTA, and Student Council who helped fund the breakfast, the custodial staff for assisting with parking and of course, thanks to Santa (Ray Lillis) for making this event special for everyone. Visitors in the School Building Please remember that any time you visit the building, even if it is before school begins in the morning, you must stop in the main office. If you have a conference with a teacher before school, please come to the main office and we will call into the classroom and alert the teacher that you have arrived. It is important that we know who is in the building at all times for safety reasons. Page 2 Hutch Happenings Continued... Cultural Arts The Cultural Arts Program at AH provides exposure for students’ interests and talents beyond the regular school curriculum. This program supplements the daily experiences of our students by providing specialized professional instruction in a variety of creative areas. Some of the activities that students are involved in this year are: The Veggie Van (Science), Dirtmeister- the Fantastic Physical Phenomenon (Science), Jacob Burns Film Center- See, Hear, Feel (ELA), Dance Around the World (Performing Arts), Dino Dig (Science), Poet Residency (ELA), Art Residency (Art), Author Visit (ELA), Colonial Kitchen (Social Studies), Earth Day (Science/Social Studies), No Bones (Science/Social Studies), Square Dancing (Performing Arts). These programs are an important part of your child’s education. The Anne Hutchinson School community is committed to offering a well-rounded education as a means of preparing students for our ever-changing world. The PTA of Anne Hutchinson has traditionally sponsored these programs through PTA dues, fund raisers, etc. Please continue to support the PTA so that we can maintain an enriching experience for all students. Additional Board of Education Meeting The Eastchester Board of Education has added a board meeting to the schedule. There will be a special meeting on January 6, 2010 at 8:00pm. Architects from KD&G will present findings on the recently commissioned study of the Eastchester Union Free School District heating operations. LOST & FOUND Please have your child come and check the lost and found for hats, gloves, scarves and coats. It’s overflowing and we will be sending it off to the Good Will during the break. Thank you. Some students went on stage to help demonstrate the mambo and the twist, while the rest danced in their seats. Especially entertaining for the students, was watching some of their teachers perform the horah. Approximately 75 senior citizens from the community attended the breakfast, and dined on scrumptious scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausages, pastries, fruit cups, and a variety of hot and cold beverages prepared by the Anne Hutch faculty and served to the senior citizens by student council members. Students in chorus and orchestra performed musical selections to put everyone in the holiday spirit. A group of middle school students even performed in an Irish Step dancing routine which really impressed the crowd. A great time was had by all!
