Games
PASS THE PARCEL
Add a Dinosaur Cove twist to classic pass the parcel. Wrap the parcel with dinosaur
wrapping paper and use dinosaur-themed prizes
within your layers, such as dinosaur-shaped
sweets and small toys.
FOSSIL TREASURE HUNT
Get the children to explore Dinosaur Cove just
like Jamie and Tom with a fun fossil treasure
hunt game. (You could even make card fossil
finders if you have time!)
• The aim of the treasure hunt is to find clues
which help lead the children to the treasure.
An adult gives the children the first clue,
which leads the children to a location, which
has a clue leading to another location, and so
on until they reach the treasure.
• The clues are written on ‘fossils’ to fit with
the theme of the Dinosaur Cove party.
• The treasure hunt could take place inside,
outside, or both, depending on the location
and time of year.
• Print out the fossil image provided on the
next page, and write your clues on the back.
It works well if the clues rhyme, e.g. ‘Where
could your first clue be? Look by the tree.’
• Aim for around 10 clues, and hide them
around the house/garden. Remember not to hide them too high up for little arms to reach!
• It’s a good idea to split the children into
teams if it is a large group.
• The final ‘treasure’ should be something all
the children can enjoy, e.g. chocolate coins.
Checklist:
• Large sheet of paper
• Colouring materials to draw the T-Rex and his tail
• Self-adhesive tack
• Blindfold/scarf
• Get creative and draw a big picture of a T-Rex
onto a large sheet of paper (minus its tail).
If you don’t have time, use the T-Rex image
we’ve provided on the next page.
• Stick this on the wall.
• Then draw its tail on a separate piece of paper
with a blob of self-adhesive tack at the base.
• During the game, blindfold the children, spin
them around three times, and then get them
to stick the tail onto your T-Rex where they
think it should go.
• Mark each child’s place with a cross and their
initials, and whoever is closest to placing it
correctly wins!
Jamie / Tom Says . . .
A Dinosaur Cove twist on the classic ‘Simon
Says…’ party game.
• One player stands at the front and acts as
Jamie or Tom.
• They tell the rest of the players to act out
various dinosaur movements (e.g. putting
your claws up, roaring, stomping). The
players should only follow the instruction if it
is preceded by the phrase ‘Jamie/Tom says…’
For example, if the player at the front says:
‘Jamie says…flap your wings like a pterodactyl’
then the rest of the players should follow the
instruction. Any player who doesn’t follow the
instruction is out of the game.
If the player at the front only says: ‘flap your
wings like a pterodactyl’ then the rest of the
players should NOT follow the instruction.
Any player who does follow the instruction is
out of the game.
• The game can be made harder by giving the
instructions very quickly one after the other.

fit for a ravenous raptor
eDIBle
dinosaur poo!
You will need:
• Make a regular biscuit mix of your choice.
• Once you have divided the mixture into biscuit sized pieces and flattened them ready for the oven, press plastic insect shapes into the dough, then remove them to leave insect impressions.
• Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes before baking.
• 100g plain chocolate
• 50g margarine
• 2 tablespoons golden syrup
• 150g plain digestive biscuits
To make the dinosaur poo:
• Put the biscuits in a large freezer bag and tie the bag shut. Using a rolling pin, bash the biscuits into crumbs.
• Break up the chocolate into pieces and put them in a saucepan. Heat the pan on a low temperature until the
chocolate has melted. • Stir the margarine and syrup into the melted chocolate. • Take the saucepan off the heat. Pour the biscuit crumbs
into the chocolate mixture and stir together. • Scoop up handfuls of the mixture and shape
them to look like droppings. Place them on
a baking tray and chill for an hour
in the fridge.
Stegosaurus
sandwiches
• Make a sandwich of your choice. • Cut in half diagonally, using a zig zag cutting
pattern to make the stegosaurus back ‘spikes’.
• Arrange the two halves into a stegosaurus shape.
• Make a small hole for the stegosaurus eye.
• Add carrot sticks for legs!
