53rd ANNUAL CASBO CONFERENCE
SHERATON HOTEL, COLORADO SPRINGS
APRIL 5-7, 2006
Thursday Keynote Speaker
Jamie Vollmer
Thursday’s Keynote Speaker
“Why our Schools Need to Change”
Jamie Vollmer is a friend of public education. He is a former
businessman and attorney who now works to increase support for
local schools. He was president of the Great Midwestern Ice
Cream Company, once proclaimed by People Magazine to make
the “Best Ice Cream in America!” Our speaker has reached the
conclusion that nobody in America is qualified to criticize public
education unless he or she has spent a warm, Friday afternoon
locked in a room with eighth graders!
In 1988, he joined the nationally recognized Iowa Business and Education Roundtable. He became
its director in 1990. Jamie was once a harsh critic, but he has become an articulate champion of
America’s public schools. He understands that our schools must change, but he insists that public
education must be aggressively supported if America is to remain great. He works with schools
and communities to halt the erosion of public trust and increase public support for public schools.
In over fourteen years of speaking and consulting, Jamie has learned the hard way that improving
public education means more than changing our schools – it means changing America. He is a
powerful ally in the struggle to create schools that give all students the opportunity to unfold their
full potential.
Join us for Jamie’s presentation at the 53rd Annual CASBO Conference!
