What to Do with a Box
Wild Backyard
If you give a child a box, who can tell what will
happen next? It may become a library or a boat.
It could set the scene for a fairy tale or a wild expedition. The most wonderful thing is its seemingly endless capacity for magical adventure.

In this illustrated nonfiction board book, six
backyard animals are introduced by describing

The Navajo Code Talkers
At the beginning of World War II, there were about 50,000 Navajo in
America. By war’s end, some 540 of them had served in the U.S. Marine
Corps, and a select few were employed in an operation so secretive that
it would not be revealed for more than 20 years. To defeat the Axis Powers of Germany, Italy, and Japan, the Allies had to break enemy codes
and anticipate covert actions. They also had to keep their own movements a secret. What better way to accomplish that than by using an
unwritten language as the basis for the ultimate unbreakable code?
J. Patrick Lewis has earned a lofty reputation in children’s publishing,

honors are the 2011 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
Excellence in Children’s Poetry Award and the Ohioana Awards’ 2004
Alice Louise Wood Memorial Prize. He lives in Westerville, Ohio.
Gary Kelley is an internationally known artist who has illustrated numerous books, including his most recent Creative Editions collaboration
with J. Patrick Lewis, 2014’s Harlem Hellfighters. Among other honors,
this title was named Best Children’s Book of the Year by the Children’s
Book Committee of the Bank Street College of Education.

The Million Stories of Marco Polo
How do we remember history? What are the truths and lies we tell?
When Marco Polo first told his tales of adventure, it was to a fellow
inmate, an author named Rustichello, and from there, other scribes
copied, translated, and customized the story to suit their purposes. Journey along as a fictitious scribe relates selected episodes from Polo’s life
to a curious young visitor who is eager to commit the tales to her own
