Large Square Balers
2
And, as it’s got Challenger written
on the side, you can be assured
that it’s the best around.
With the very latest features and sleek
lines, the Challenger LB B Series of
large square balers combines proven,
unsurpassed baler technology with
innovative, practical design, providing
you with simplicity of operation,
ease of maintenance and
unrivalled performance.
Challenger’s worldwide reputation for
quality, reliability and performance
can now be found in the new
generation of large square balers –
the Challenger LB B Series. Designed
and built with meticulous attention
to detail at the birthplace of large
square balers – Hesston, USA – the
knowledge, experience and skill
accumulated over 25 years have been
concentrated into these remarkable
machines to give you, the grower, the
efficiency and long-term dependability
you need for your business to thrive.
It’s A Question Of Quality
When you’re making bales, machine
performance is essential which is why
the Challenger LB44B has a larger
flywheel, longer plunger stroke and
a 30% faster plunger speed than
previous baler standards. No surprise
then, that a significant boost in output
is achievable. The bales are bigger too,
at 1.2 m x 1.28 m, while the LB34B
allows flexibility in storage with bales
measuring 1.2 m x 0.88 m.
The Challenger LB34B and LB44B
large square balers deliver bales of
consistent quality – the right density,
the right size and the right weight –
whether you’re baling straw or hay.
The LB34B model will also make light
work of silage. Precision is now the
watchword of modern agriculture so
the Challenger LB B Series has been
engineered to the highest standards
to give you exactly that. Bale density
and weight are calculated to make
optimum use of transport and storage.

can be fitted to any tractor, while the
generous ground clearance allows
even the bulkiest of crop swaths to
be passed over with ease.
Reliable, consistent throughput is
dependent on Challenger’s immensely
strong build quality throughout the
machine. Both models are constructed
around a simple, rigid frame of top
grade steel on which all the baler’s
components are mounted. This design
ensures ease of access and rugged
durability, even in the most
testing conditions.
The fully-adjustable hitch – new on
the LB44B – means these big balers

and material loading.
Challenger’s design engineers have
applied painstaking attention to detail
to combine high output with a gentle
and precise intake of crop into the
baler. The pick-up incorporates a
torsion bar suspension system

Four centring augers convey the crop
into the packers, giving a consistently
positive feed, whatever the crop
or density.
A low profile pick-up reel with a
smaller diameter is used to improve
and maximise crop flow. Together
with the increased tine speed,
productivity is enhanced.

It all starts with the Challenger prepack chamber system, where the
packers move the crop in to form the
flake. As soon as the flake has reached
its required density, the stuffer –
which is synchronised precisely with
the plunger – feeds the flake into the
bale chamber. This simple system
requires no settings – it all happens
automatically. Every flake will be the
same time after time.

To produce bales of the highest
quality, the knotters are chain driven
from the main gearbox, which
ensures that the plunger, knotters
and needles are in precisely the
same timing cycle. It is often said
that the best engineering is based
Challenger big square balers feature
the double knotter system, pioneered
at the renowned Hesston plant in
the USA, and proven to be the best
knotting mechanism for balers in
the world – even after a quarter
of a century.
Performance is further boosted by
the innovative knotter blower, which
is powered by the baler’s integral
hydraulic pump. This clever device
blows air at a constant 140 km/h
through the knotter stack, keeping
the whole area completely free of
debris at all times of operation.
on simplicity of design, and the
double knotter system is a perfect
example; producing neat, rock-solid
knots to enable the highest density
bales to be produced time after time.
Blowing at 140 km/h, the
knotter-blower quickly removes
unwanted debris
No complicated mechanisms
here. Just plain, simple,
well-engineered design
leaving you with supersolid, perfectly tied
knots for compact, easily
transportable bales.
Innovative design for the perfect harvest
The knotters are lubricated with an
Auto-lube system. For convenient
maintenance, the lube-interval can
be set through the control monitor
to suit your needs.

The smooth, modern lines of the
Challenger LB B Series machines
emphasise their position at the
forefront of new generation large
square balers. Extremely practical,
access to all areas of the baler
couldn’t be easier, with wideopening side panels and a separate
cover on the flywheel. Twine refills
will be few and far between thanks
to the compact, 30-ball capacity
rack, which sits at an angle of 30°
for easier loading. This new storage
area offers not only increased
capacity but also improves
access to components.
Well thought-out design, the latest
technology and superb build quality
have all been brought together to
create the Challenger LB B Series of
large square balers. Their unrivalled
reliability and performance will
reassure you of the wisdom of your
investment by boosting profitability
and, eventually, providing a pleasing
residual value.
Total control of the entire baling
process is at your fingertips,
courtesy of the highly versatile
and simple-to-use GTA I Console
– the best monitor in the field can
be customised to display all the
information you need throughout
the baling operation. The top quality
colour screen provides excellent
clarity – day or night – and the baler
itself is ISO-compliant, allowing
connection to any tractor with an
ISO VT terminal.
Monitoring Progress
balers are able to produce bales of
consistent density, as the tractor
hydraulics are not diverted away
from the mainstream baler functions.
A bale ejector is standard and comes
complete with a rear bale shoot.
All balers can be specified with
a cutter featuring a quick and easy
selectable cut length. All knives are
spring loaded for safety protection.
Both models have an optional
65 km/h rated, self-steering
tandem axle to further enhance
the balers performance.
The tandem axle is fitted
with 500/45-22.5 tyres.
