SUMMER AUTUMN 2010 PHONE SALES 0844 871 7647 (bkg fee) Tue 28 Sep - Sat 2 Oct www.ambassadortickets.com/ glasgow (online, bkg fee) Welcome CONTENTS Our rich and varied programme this season includes the only Scottish date of Alan Bennett’s new play The Habit of Art. After sell-out success at the National Theatre in London, this deeply funny and thoughtprovoking play is eagerly anticipated and should not be missed. We have always championed Matthew Bourne’s work. His ability to create stunning productions and bring new audiences to dance means he plays a crucial role in our work at the Theatre Royal. This season his iconic modern day classic Swan Lake returns for a strictly limited run at the end of September prior to New York. We are also going to be collaborating with Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures to present the world premiere of a brand new production and you will find further details of this on page 25. With Simon Callow’s tour-de-force Shakespeare The Man from Stratford, outstanding productions from Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, there really is a wonderful choice on offer this season. We look forward to welcoming you. 4 George’s Marvellous Medicine Tue 27 - Sat 31 July 5 Bedroom Farce Mon 9 - Sat 14 August 6 FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY 7 The Gruffalo Thu 2 - Sat 4 September 8 Keeping Up Appearances Mon 6 - Sat 11 September 9 SCOTTISH BALLET Geometry & Grace Thu 16 - Sat 18 September 10 Shakespeare The Man from Stratford Tue 21 - Sat 25 September 11 Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake Tue 28 September - Sat 2 October 12 Cirque Du Glace Tue 5 - Sat 9 October 14 Blake Tue 12 October 15 Richard Wingate Carole King & James Taylor Wed 13 October Chief Executive Blaze Fri 15 & Sat 16 October 16 Stomp Tue 2 - Sun 7 November 17 SCOTTISH OPERA 18 The Vagina Monologues Mon 8 - Sat 13 November 20 Carrie’s War Tue 16 - Sat 20 November 21 Room on the Broom Thu 18 - Sun 21 November 22 The Habit of Art Tue 23 - Sat 27 November 23 coming soon 24 this season at the king’s 26 corporate opportunities 28 Richard Wingate with Alan Bennett 1 Witness for the Prosecution Mon 28 June - Sat 3 July Tue 2 - Sun 7 Nov. Oxford 1972. Benjamin Britten, sailing uncomfortably close to the wind with his new opera, Death in Venice, seeks advice from his former collaborator and friend, W H Auden. During this imagined meeting, their first for 25 years, they are observed and interrupted by, amongst others, their future biographer and a young man from the local bus station. Deeply funny and thought-provoking, this new play reflects on growing old, on creativity and inspiration, and on persisting when all passion’s spent: ultimately, on the habit of art.
