My Siddur | Introduction
Baruch Hashem, Greetings and blessings!
“Tefila b'lo kavana –
k'guf b'lo neshama.” - Abarbanel
A prayer without kavana (proper focus and
attention) is like a body without a soul.
“Sulam mutzav artza,
v'rosho magia hashamaima – zohi tefila.” - Zohar
A ladder set on the ground, whose tip reaches
the heavens - this is prayer.
“Ahavat Hashem v'Yirat Hashem
k'trei gadfin d'parcha l’ayla.” - Tanya
Love and Fear (awe) of Hashem are the wings
upon which (prayers) fly to heaven.
The word “tefila” shares its root with “tofel”
meaning “to attach.”
Through tefila we attach, connect and bind
ourselves to Hashem, our Creator. - Chassidus
My Siddur was designed to help climb the ladder of tefila in its authentic, original Hebrew,
while focusing on the personal meaning and relevance of our prayers.
My Siddur features:
• Every word transliterated, divided by syl∙la∙bles for accurate reading.
• Mini Meditations that summarize the main idea of the tefila.
• Colored Translated Keywords in each tefila, for a glance at its theme and for guided discussion.
• Starred Shva Na for accurate Hebrew pronunciation.
• Labeled Audio Trax to hear and practice the correct pronunciation of each tefila (online or CD).
• Prayers divided into short phrases, each on its own line, for easier reading and comprehension.
• Line Numbers for easier reading and tracking in class or group settings.
There are two versions of this Nusach Chabad Siddur, differing only in the pronunciation style of the
transliteration: Sephardic and Ashkenazic (i.e. “Shabbat” vs. “Shabbos”).
This Siddur has the Sephardic / Israeli style pronunciation.
About the Transliteration
My aim was to transliterate in a manner that will enable a child/student to read the tefila accurately
without having to learn any external rules. My team and I did our best.
You may notice words that are transliterated differently than the common pronunciation. Although
some are not particular about grammatical rules during davening, we transliterated the words accurately,
as follows:
1.
Each syllable in every transliterated word is divided with a “∙”, to match the Hebrew exactly.
2.
We honored the oft-ignored shva na which grammatically begins a new syllable within the
word, with a “'”. We followed the guide of Siddur Tehilat Hashem, published by Merkos
L'inyonei Chinuch (with permission – thank you), in which every shva na is starred, e.g. in
Modeh Ani, the word “nishmati” has a star above the shin, rendering it “ni∙sh'ma∙ti.”
While the Siddur text transliteration is accurate, the table of contents, titles and instructions are written
with the more commonly used transliterations.

Acknowledgements
With deep feelings of awe and gratitude, I humbly and sincerely thank Hashem for allowing me
to play a role in assisting my Jewish brothers and sisters on their spiritual journey.
Thank you to some people who played a major role in the production of My Siddur:
Mrs. Rivkie Block for the Tefila Trax CD - Siddur companion idea.
Rabbi Yossi Friedman of Merkos L'inyonei Chinuch for granting permission to use the text of
Siddur Tehilat Hashem in My Siddur.
Rabbi Yosef Hartmann for his ever ready, wise and practical assistance in all my publications,
and Dr. Michael Abrahams for insights into the tefilot.
Chaya Mushka Braude for the majority of the brainstorming, transliterating, editing and
formatting assistance in this 2nd Edition. Chana (Eisenberg) Roberts, Rabbis Nochum
Katsenelenbogen, Moshe Zaklikowski and Alex Heppenheimer for proofreading.
Rabbi Yossi Freedman (Argentina) for his invaluable direction, layout expertise and assistance.
Chava (Levin) Light for the magnificent cover art (ChavaStudios.com).
Rabbi Nissan Mindel OBM, as most of the Mini Meditations and explanations in My Siddur
were inspired by “My Prayer” volumes 1 & 2, by Rabbi Nissan Mindel, published by Kehot.
(I urge anyone seriously interested in understanding and appreciating the concept of prayers in
general and/or the specifics of each tefila, to read his invaluable, beautifully written books.)
Rabbis Kugel, Ossey and Fried, the wonderful Shluchim of Chabad of the West Side, NYC, for
their encouragement and support in “My Siddur” and other Tools for Torah publications.
Our family is honored to be part of their team!
Mr. George Rohr, for his pioneering support of My Siddur.
Most of all, my wife, Sarah, for her incredible character, thriving with all our family and work
responsibilities while I am in the “My Siddur” (and other publications) world, and also for the
beautiful design and layout of the Siddur pages and cover. To my children, Chana Mushka,
Shayna Ruchama, Yehudis Bracha and Maryasha Esther for their continued enthusiasm and help.
Hashem loves to hear our prayers. Let us all pray to Hashem that He finally listen to His
children’s prayers and sends His righteous Moshiach, to take us all out of this galut (exile) and
return us to the new, rebuilt Jerusalem where we will once again pray and serve Hashem in the
Beit Hamikdash - the Holy Temple. May it happen now!

Note: The original version of “Tefila Trax” is numbered according to the original “My Siddur” tefilot
and numbers. See the details and differences online at www.ToolsforTorah.com.
My Siddur is currently being animated online, so you can hear the tefilot as the letters
actually come to life. See the world’s first “Living Siddur” on ToolsforTorah.com.
Transliteration Tips:
We tried our best to spell out the words just as they sound, to minimize the rules.
1. Each syllable in every word is di∙vi∙ded with a dot ∙ for accurate reading.
2. Every shva na is honored with a “'” as in “ki∙d'sha∙nu”
3. The “ch” is pronounced as in the word “Challah.”
4. Good to know: kamatz katan and chataf kamatz are read “oh” not “ah.”
e.g. the word “‫ ”בְּ חָ כְ מָ ה‬is pronounced “b'choch∙ma,” not “b'chach∙ma.”

My Siddur | Tefilin Blessings
Sample Pages of SiddurSheli - My Siddur. NO PRINTING ALLOWED. ©2012 Rabbi Chayim B. Alevsky, ToolsforTorah.com.
Men and boys aged 13 and up wrap Tefilin every weekday,
dedicating mind, heart (emotions) and actions to serve Hashem.
TEFILIN BRACHOT
1. Position the tefilin shel yad (arm tefilin) on your left biceps (if you are right-handed) with
the tefilin box facing your heart.
2. Recite this bracha. (After reciting the bracha, do not speak until the shel rosh is in place.)

3. Tighten the knot and wrap the straps;
Fasten the knot to the tefilin box by wrapping twice over the knot and tefilin around your
biceps to create a ‫ש‬. Then wrap seven more times on your arm past the elbow, until just
before the wrist bone. Wrap the 8th wrap beyond the wrist bone diagonally across and into
the palm. Hold the straps in your palm or let them loose while you don the tefilin shel rosh.
4. Place the tefilin shel rosh (head tefilin)
on your head like a crown, lining up its front
with your hairline, centered above your forehead.
Pull the 2 straps from the back-knot over to the front of your body.
5. Wrap the strap around your palm once, then three times around your
middle finger, once at the base of the finger, once on the middle then again
over the base.
6. It is customary to pray Shacharit wrapped in tefilin. When that is not an
option, then be sure to recite the Shema (pages 36-37) while wearing the tefilin.
If you mistakenly spoke after the first bracha - before the shel rosh was in place,
recite this additional bracha while donning the shel rosh:

Kabalat Shabbat - Welcoming the Shabbat
On Friday evening, after the Shabbat candles are lit at home, we go to shul for
“Kabalat Shabbat.”
The Kabalat Shabbat service begins with six introductory Psalms, one for each day of the
week. They help set our mood and mind to joyously acknowledge Hashem’s creation and
anticipate the ultimate Shabbat - the seventh millennium - the time of Moshiach.

Shabbat is a Queen and a Bride. Symbolizing devotion and
affection; Shabbat is the “Bride” of the Jewish People,
we are Hashem’s “Bride” and the Torah is our “Bride.”
L'CHA DODI
After referring to the six days of Creation, we welcome the Shabbat Queen
in the famous “L'cha Dodi” hymn. Composed by Rabbi Shlomo Halevi Alkabetz;
the author left his signature in the first letter of each stanza.

My Siddur | Friday Night Kiddush
Sample Pages of SiddurSheli - My Siddur. NO PRINTING ALLOWED. ©2012 Rabbi Chayim B. Alevsky, ToolsforTorah.com.
Hashem created the world in six days
and created rest on the seventh.
Celebrating Shabbat is our holy sign of faith in Hashem.
FRIDAY NIGHT KIDDUSH
“Remember the Shabbat - to make it holy” - this is the Kiddush over wine
(which “gladdens the hearts of man and Hashem,” when used for a holy purpose).
Hashem chose us and made us holy by giving us His Mitzvot to follow.
We celebrate Shabbat in commemoration of creation and our exodus from Egypt.
Fill a cup of wine (or grape juice) to the top. Hold it in the palm of your right hand and
recite the Kiddush. Drink the wine while sitting.

Opening the Ark, Vayehi Bin’soa: In the desert, the heavenly cloud would signal
when the Jews were to travel. When the ark carrying the Luchot began its journey,
Moshe would pray the following:
When the ark is opened and the Torah is taken out, we direct our hearts and attention,
as if we are now standing at Mount Sinai ready to receive the Torah from Hashem.

HAVDALAH
We bid farewell to Shabbat with wine, spices and fire, noting that
there are necessary separations in our world; between light and dark,
holy and unholy etc. - and we are Hashem’s holy nation.
Let there be light, joy, gladness and honor, always!
After the stars come out, we prepare for the Havdalah service:
wine, good smelling spices and fire.
The fire must have at least two wicks, therefore a multi-braided candle is most
commonly used. Two candles or matches held together are fine.
Standing, with the overflowing cup of wine placed in the palm of the right hand,
good smelling spices and fire at our side, we begin;

For the Eight days of Pesach (Passover) we do not eat or
own any Chametz (leavened food), instead, we eat Matzah.
PESACH
Before Pesach we remove all Chametz from our home. The night before Pesach,
we thoroughly search our homes by candlelight for any Chametz we may have missed.

SEFIRAT HA'OMER
From Pesach to Shavuot (Matan Torah) are 49 days of
preparation. We count the Omer and improve our midot.
Some laws of Sefirat Ha'Omer
1. We count Sefirat Ha'Omer from the second night of Pesach until Shavuot; a total of 49 days.
2. Each night, after the stars come out, we count the number of the NEXT calendar day, since
the Jewish day begins at nightfall. So, for example:
If Sunday, the 16th of Nissan is the 1st day of the Omer (also the 2nd day of Pesach),
Monday, the 17th of Nissan is the 2nd day of the Omer and Tuesday is the 3rd day, etc. then:
On Saturday night – before Sunday, we count the 1st day of the Omer. On Sunday night –
before Monday, we count the 2nd day of the Omer, on Monday night – before Tuesday, we
count the 3rd day of the Omer etc.
3. If we forget to count at night we do so the next day, but without the bracha.
4. If we forgot to count both at night and the next day, then we continue counting on the
remaining nights, but without the bracha.
We recite the bracha standing, having in mind the day’s count of sefirah and the mida (e.g.
chessed) of that day. We then ask Hashem to rebuild the Beit Hamikdash with “Harachaman.”

Tefilah (prayer) is a ladder upon which our thanks,
praise and requests to G-d travel until they reach His
very throne. As we climb this ladder of prayer, we
come closer to G-d.
Siddur Sheli’s easy-to-read Hebrew text with English transliteration allows you to learn the Tefilot as
you chant and sing along. Translated keywords and
meaningful meditations help you understand and
appreciate the prayers.
The new edition contains selected weekday, Shabbat
and Holiday prayers, as well as the Birchat Hamazon (Grace after Meals) and blessings.

climb the ladder of prayer, a journey that will last a
lifetime!
