I hope it gets you out of winter mode and into spring time creative mode and that you are all busy creating you works of art for our spring show! It’s coming up fast! Kingwood, TX Our next meeting will be full of information about our show as well as the upcoming LSAG convention so I hope you will attend. Our mission as an art society is to help nurture your creativity with demos, shows, camaraderie, workshops, lessons, and positive reinforcement. We hope that through KAS you can find ways to express yourself and get your artwork seen by the public. For those of you who wish to sell your artwork we hope that we can help provide you with venues or information about venues to do so. We also hope to help provide you with information on new techniques, products, distributors, etc. In other words, we want to make your time spent with us as productive and rewarding as possible. It’s always good to get input from our new members as well. Those "fresh eyes" can sometimes see things that the more seasoned members have missed. So please feel free to share with us your thoughts and ideas. We hope you will take a look at the proposed changes to the categories and divisions that are attached to this newsletter. We would like your thoughts and comments so please bring a copy with you to the meeting and we will discuss it in greater detail after the demo. Don't forget you sale items! Contact Randi at 281-361-4299 Life Drawing takes place every Saturday from 10:00am till 12:00pm at the Red Palette Art Center Cost is $10.00. This covers the cost of the model plus all of the wonderful drawings and experience you will get for you artwork Card Classes at Rosemont on April 14. Belinda Hamilton and Vanita Doyle want to show you how to do quick greeting cards from watercolors. Cost $20.00, 9:30 – 12:00 on Thursday, April 14th. Registration required insuring enough supplies. Just bring your watercolors and brushes. If you have any old watercolors or partial paintings you don’t want “as is”, you might be able to transform them into some greeting cards. The KAS Board voted to have an ART SWAP or SELL at the general meetings. There will be a table set up for you where you can sell, purchase or swap you art supplies, books, magazines, DVDs or any such item. A 10% commission goes to KAS. Kingwood Art Society Newsletter……………………………………………………..………..Page 3 February, 2011 JANUARY DEMO ARTIST SYLVIA TRYBEK Sylvia demonstrated her skill by creating strong composition with beautiful colors and strong drawing skills. KAS members present were held spellbound as this beautiful figure in oil was created. Sylvia also inspired her audience with her easy going manner and vast knowledge in painting the figure. Questions were plentiful and everyone left with a lot of new knowledge. MEMBER NEWSCAST Pat Conroy’s The Demise of the Red Door” and Sally Kullman’s “The Orange Vase” were also juried into the 34th WASH 2011 International Show. Many congratulations . “ “Sunlit Morn in Domme” “Orange Vase” By Anne Treadwell by Sally Kullman Paintings are displayed in Houston, at 1601 W. Alabama beginning March 20, 2011. The opening reception will be on March 25th from 6 pm to 8 pm. VANITA DOYLE TO BE THE DEMO ARTIST AT FEBRUARY MEETING Vanita has been a professional watercolor artist since 1985. Her first love is to create oriental watercolor paintings. Anne Treadwell with the judge, “Wash Day” Anne Treadwell was awarded Second Place in the Watercolor Art Society of Houston’s January Gallery Show.. We are so proud of you, Anne. Congratulations! Congratulations are due again to Anne for her painting, “Sunlit Morm in Domme. This was juried into the 34th Watercolor Art Society of Houston’s 2011 International show Doyle has studied oriental techniques from Diane Kan of New York City who she considers to be her master. Vanita’s paintings are hanging in the Baytown Art League Gallery in Baytown and in the Honolulu Trade C. in Honolulu, HA. Lately, Vanita has been teaching classes on cruise ships in her classes, she uses watercolor pencils to get the look of watercolors. She has experimented with using the pencils and has read most books that are available on the subject. She has taught some workshops locally to introduce others to watercolor pencils along with how to use them with other watermedia. Vanita will demonstrate how to paint a flower using watercolor pencils. Kingwood Art Society Newsletter……………………………………………………..………..Page 4 February, 2011 Dear KAS Membership, CALL FOR KAS VOLUNTEERS The Lone Star Art Guild recently made two proposals which, if accepted in May at the Convention, will revise/change the Divisions and Categories we use for our Shows and Competitions. Attached are the proposed changes. Please read over the information. KAS will have a discussion about the proposed changes after the demonstration at the General Meeting on Monday, February 21st. If you have any concerns about the information, please come to the meeting and stay afterwards for the discussion. If you are unable to come to the meeting, and have any questions, please e-mail me at [email protected]. 1. KAS needs a volunteer to cross-train for maintaining the KAS Website. See Debra Latham. 2. We will need volunteers for the LSAG Convention to help with Demos, Judging, etc. See Linda Dumas or Kristin Dumas. 3. KAS needs a volunteer to chair next year’s “Facility Position”.
