Principal’s Update:
It was a great week to celebrate academics. With the Nobel Prize winners announced along with
the Geography Bee winner, it is easy to see why this school is fantastic! Our students really shine
and know their stuff…
I have been reminding students on the morning announcements they are all starting this semester
with perfect scores- When they started up the week, they all had everything turned in that was
due…which was nothing because we are starting fresh. I like to remind students it is much easier
to keep an A than it is to chase it all semester long. Please check with your students to be sure they
are completing their work and TURNING IT IN! (Yes, they do forget to turn in completed work!).
Also, please reinforce the idea I have been expressing that if their teachers offer a retake of a test
or assignment, students should take advantage of it! There are many ways to succeed.
Wall of Fame Student Recognition Lunch Edition:
Each week teachers nominate students who exemplify scholarship and citizenship and their names
are added to the “Wall of Fame” for the week. This week, teachers could select two students from
their classes this semester they wanted to honor for any reason. Congratulations to the students who
were honored at our student recognition lunch:
Ruby Herrera, Bella Marden, Bryce Wilson, Michelle Hernandez Coronado, Caleb Jackson,
Spencer Fetko, Lulu Dai, Sage Cannon, Gabby Platter, Jenny Cardona, Maddie McKee,
Landon Nelson, Alexandra Prodanov, Gwen Stuart, Karlyn Kromhout, Ashley Salomon
Gaspar, Amanda Sirois, Levi Poe, Christopher Ramirez Morales, Emma Mendoza, Ruby
Houghton, Elena Grant, Elvis Mensa, Diana Sadeghi, Lilah May, Xavier Yeash, Courtney
Nash, Nathan Danner, Gianna Lucchesi, Melanie Castillo, Brandon Beckett, Jayde Malzone,
Zari Ramos, Erin O'Neil, Michael da Silva, Sophie Rivas, Bella Luna, Quinn Williams,
Helena Brown, Makenna White, Tori Killian, Aaliyah Beck, Emma Galambos, Dylan Good,

Remember, any teacher can nominate a student for a spot on the Wall of Fame. If a student’s name
appears on here for more than one week, it means that student is doing great things in lots of
classes.

 The 8th grade girls basketball team won the Mesa Middle School tournament this past

won their next two games and met Judkins in the finals. Our Lancers fought from behind to
finally beat Judkins by 3 points in the last minute of the game!
Student Recognition Lunch!
Nobel Prize Finals
Congratulations to Wesley Weisenberger, Jason Lucero, and Connor Borges for being chosen as
this year’s LAMS Nobel Prize winners. Their presentation on Wi-fi Attenuation was informative,
entertaining and left many in the audience counting the layers of drywall between their router and
their receiver! Their names will be added to our perpetual plaque in the front office.
The judges’ decision was not easy, however, as we saw 11 outstanding presentations on Friday. All
who attended had a great time learning about everything from how our brains interpret optical
illusions to how graphene may change the world. We are proud to have so many great scholars in
our midst!

Tech Trek
Were you once that young person with a passion for Science, Math and/or invention?
Help fuel that love by donating to Tech Trek. The camp, sponsored by American Association for University
Women (AAUW), sends select, motivated females to a week-long camp at UC Santa Barbara in the summer
time. They are able to explore the world of coding, forensics, experiments, inventions and more. The cost is
$900 per camper, however donations of any amount are appreciated. A check of any amount can be mailed to
my Tech Trek co-chair Susan Updegrove at 1307 Kentwood in San Luis Obispo, California 93401. The check
should be made out to AAUW with "Tech Trek" written in the memo line. The donation is indeed tax
deductible.
The donations will benefit, very specifically, seventh grade females from Laguna Middle School in San Luis
Obispo. The enthusiastic, young scholars will be selected by their Laguna Middle School Science teachers.
As a full-time public school teacher at Laguna Middle School and entrepreneur, it is my pleasure to help fuel
the skills and dreams of the next generation. Please feel free to contact me if you need any additional
information.

LAMS Library Happenings…
Fiction Mania!
Students are checking out titles for their current English assignments. It’s a
great feeling to witness the spark and smile of a student who finds that
perfect book!
Board Games Galore!
Games are on at Laguna Library.
Students are enjoying time socializing during lunch
playing chess, cards, checkers, Apples to Apples, Guess
Who? and more.
Students Helping Students!
I love it when our middle school students step up to help each other! Just this morning I observed
one of our 8th graders helping out another student with the quirks of printing documents in the
library and another helping with the formatting of a Google doc. And, I cannot forget to mention
Anthony who paused to hold the door open as students poured out of the library after lunch. Thank
you students for your kindness.
Learning!
There are plenty of resources, supplies and Chromebooks
available for students to work on homework and projects as
students continue to stay on top of their assignments. Don’t
forget homework lab after school from 3:00-3:50, MondayThursday. Keep up the great work Lancers!

City Farm Our Global Family Village Event Cancelled
The good news is that we are getting plenty of rain this week, including Friday and Saturday. The bad
news is that the event at City Farm Our Global Family Village this Saturday, January 23rd. The land is
so saturated that it is nearly impossible to gain access to the farmland. (Again good news and bad
news!) The Worm Tea application will reschedule in a couple of months.
