Capital Region!
Adjusting to new
surroundings is
never easy, but you
would be hard-pressed to find
people who will go out of their
way to help you adjust as much
as those in South Louisiana.
Just talk to some of the friendly,
outgoing natives, and you
will soon see the warmth and
hospitality of our culture.
As you make the adjustment
to your new home, we know
you’ll be looking for information
about many important services
and resources. The Baton Rouge
Area Chamber (www.brac.org)
is a great source of information
for the newcomer.

Championship Spirit
LSU’s championship spirit extends far beyond the end of football season;
it infuses our nationally recognized programs all year long.
LSU has one of only a handful of accredited programs in the country that
prepares medical physicists for careers in cancer diagnosis and therapy.
LSU’s School of Landscape Architecture has one of the top undergraduate
programs in the entire United States.
LSU was one of only six universities recognized in the first-ever President’s
Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
Our championship spirit both on the field and in the fields of research,
education, and community service will always represent...

FINDING A DOCTOR
Under normal circumstances, the
most valuable resource you can have for
finding a new doctor is the advice and
recommendations of people you trust.
Unfortunately, that’s not always possible
when you move to a new community.
Still, there are a few steps you can
take. First, be sure you check with your
health plan; some of them restrict
you to certain doctors and some have

here are many things to consider when choosing a
banking institution. First, you should determine
what your needs are, such as obtaining a home
mortgage, or opening a savings, checking or money
market account. Compare the interest rates offered
on savings and mortgages at different institutions. Consider
whether or not a bank’s locations are convenient and the type of
services it offers, such as online banking and ATMs. Determine
what fees it charges, and if it offers other types of personal
loans, such as car loans. Doing your research can help you obtain
the highest interest rates on your savings or checking account,
and the lowest rates on your mortgage.

he Baton Rouge area housing
market offers something for
everyone, boasting a diverse
range of neighborhoods
within and around the city
limits. On top of the range of options and
easy commutes, the Baton Rouge region
offers tremendous value. We ranked
71st out of the 156 metropolitan areas
included in the National Association
of Realtors 2005 Median Sales Price of
Existing Single-Family Homes Survey,
and home buyers here continue to enjoy
the best of both price and stability. In
early 2008, nationwide real estate broker
Mark McKenzie called Baton Rouge one
of the most favorable real estate markets
out of the 73 major markets he covers.
Areas around Ascension, Livingston,
West Baton Rouge and Zachary have
never had hotter housing markets,
featuring ongoing development of new
subdivisions with golf course views
and single-family home lots. Closer
to the city, you’ll find a series of new
condominium projects along with several
innovative mixed-use developments that
put home lots, condos, apartments and
townhomes close to shopping, dining,
health care and other services. Elegant
loft and condo homes are a growing
sensation in and around downtown
Baton Rouge, and a series of new
traditional neighborhood developments
(TNDs) are under way in places like
Central, West Baton Rouge Parish and
South Baton Rouge.
Above all, Baton Rouge is a city of
beautiful mature neighborhoods where
family living is a tradition. From the
historic Garden District in the heart of
the city to the upscale Country Club of
Louisiana (pictured above) and Santa
Maria developments on the south end of
East Baton Rouge Parish, there is both
variety and value. Homes in the area’s
upscale developments were bucking the
national trend by continuing to increase
in value as 2008 began.
A great place to start your search
for the perfect home is with one of the
real estate firms listed on the following
pages. You can also call the Greater Baton
Rouge Association of Realtors, where you
can find out information about Realtors
working in the area and about properties
on the market. Call 761-2000 or visit
