Community Foundation Celebrates 10th Anniversary
On Friday November 7th, the Community Foundation of Switzerland County, Inc’s Board of Directors hosted a
10th Anniversary Celebration at the Best Western Ogle Haus Inn. The Celebration started with a reception at 5:00
p.m. followed by dinner and a program at 6:00 p.m.
Approximately 170 people joined the Foundation in celebrating this milestone. The past presidents of the
Foundation highlighted accomplishments that have taken place over the past ten years. Other presenters at the
program included some of the Foundation’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholars, donors, and grant recipients.
The Community Foundation would like to thank all of the individuals and businesses that have supported the
Foundation over the years. Your generosity has allowed the Foundation to look forward to many more years of
service to Switzerland County.

75 permanent funds have been established at the Community Foundation;
Almost 4,000 people have donated a total of $5.97 million in gifts to the Foundation;
The Foundation has awarded 400 grants totaling $1.2 million to charitable projects;
The Foundation has been responsible for over $8 million in grants and scholarships
coming to Switzerland County.
Give Now and Watch Your Gift Grow
During these tough economic times, many of us want
to hold on to our money because spending it seems too
risky. But the Community Foundation has a solution
for you. Try investing your money in your own
community. You can do this right now through the
Foundation and we will make your gift immediately
worth 125% of its value.
Sound to good to be true? It’s not. The Community
Foundation is currently offering a matching gift program
called the Here Today...Here Tomorrow Initiative. The
Initiative matches all gifts to permanent funds held in the
Community Foundation. For every dollar contributed to
a permanent fund, the Foundation will match it with 25
cents. For example, if you donate $1,000 to a fund,
the Foundation will add an extra $250 to that fund.
Put simply, for every $4 contributed to a fund, the
Foundation will add $1.
Matching funds are available on a first-come, first-serve
basis and will be available until December 31, 2008 or
until the funds are expended. There is no minimum
amount that needs to be contributed to be eligible for the
matching funds.
To participate in the Here Today…Here Tomorrow
Initiative, you may contribute to one of approximately
60 existing permanent funds in the Foundation or you
may want to establish a new fund of your own. To see
a list of existing funds, visit the Foundation’s website at
www.cfsci.org.
If you have been thinking about investing in your
community, now is the time to do so. The Here Today...
Here Tomorrow Initiative will help you extend your
charitable dollars and give back to your community at
the same time.
To learn more about the Initiative, contact Pam Acton or
Melissa Andrew at the Foundation’s office.
Scholarship Applications Available
The Community Foundation is pleased to announce that scholarship applications are now available and may be
obtained by visiting the Foundation’s website at www.cfsci.org or by stopping in the office. The Foundation has
three different applications- one for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, one for graduating seniors
of high school, and one for “non-traditional” students. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship has the
first deadline, which is January 8th. Following that, the graduating senior and non-traditional applications are
due March 11th. If you have any questions about scholarships offered at the Community Foundation, contact the
Foundation’s staff at 427-9160.

Community Foundation Participates In EcO15 Initiative
One of Community Foundation’s newest initiatives
is EcO15, an exciting opportunity to change the way
we view the link between learning and earning in
Switzerland County.
EcO15 is a regional effort to create educational
programs associated with advanced manufacturing,
healthcare, and tourism in ten southeastern Indiana
counties. Funded by a generous grant from the Lilly
Endowment, EcO15 is administered regionally through
the Heritage Fund—The Community Foundation of
Bartholomew County and the Community Education
Coalition, Inc. in Columbus. In each of the regions’ ten
counties, the community foundations are responsible
for administering local EcO15 projects.
The Community Foundation, recognizing the
critical link between a
skilled workforce and
economic
development
opportunities,
partnered
with
the
Switzerland
County Economic Development
Corporation
(SCEDC) to coordinate the
local EcO15 projects with
employers, our schools,
local elected officials, and
the residents of Switzerland
County.
Switzerland County, along with the nine other EcO15
counties, recently submitted proposals to address
opportunities to increase advanced manufacturing
education in our communities. We proposed to tackle
Switzerland County’s challenges with three key
initiatives.
First, we will seek to partner with the Switzerland
County School Corporation to institute advanced
manufacturing curriculum in the middle school and
high school.
Secondly, we plan to create adult learning facilities here
in Switzerland County that allow for easier, more
helpful access to college classes and industry
certification programs.
Finally, we intend to
undertake an ambitious
project to help Switzerland County residents
understand the changes
in our economy and how
those changes affect each
worker and each family.
For residents who wish
to improve their incomes
and skill levels, this project will use the EcO15
resources to help provide
a direction for action.
