Blanket Options - Soldiers` Angels
Soldiers’ Angels Blankets
Angels are needed to sew, knit and crochet blankets! These blankets have brought
hope and comfort to many of our wounded and ill heroes.
"If it had not been for your support I would have had nothing. I know that a blanket may
not seem like much back home, but here it can make a lot of difference. You will never
know how much you helped me."

Blanket Guidelines
Fleece “no-sew” or “tie” blankets are our most popular. Hancock Fabrics, JoAnn, etc. have great
fleece "panels" with military themes that are perfect. Many people enjoy making these in
groups. For instructions, please copy this link into your browser:

BLANKET SIZES & COLORS: MINIMUM size 45" wide x 65" long. Larger – and especially
longer - blankets are very much appreciated! 90% of the recipients are men, so patriotic/outdoor
colors and themes are best. Please no pink, purple, lime green, etc.
IMPORTANT: Roll each blanket tightly, tie with a ribbon, and tag with a note: "Made with
love and hope for your recovery by (your name) from Soldiers’ Angels". You may wish to
include your email address.
QUILTS
Finished size should be minimum 55” x 70”. As with all blankets send for our patients,
patriotic/outdoor colors and themes are best. If possible, please roll each quilt tightly, tie with a
ribbon, and tag with a note: "Made with love and hope for your recovery by (your name) from
Soldiers’ Angels". You may wish to include your email address.
This is an ongoing project! THANK YOU for your support of our wounded and ill warriors.

Money-Saving Shipping Tips
1. It is not necessary to send Priority Mail. Parcel Post is fine. Check with your Post Office for
rates and size/weight guidelines.
2. Save your postage receipts, which may be tax-deductable. Consider asking your local VFW,
church group, etc. to sponsor your project by paying for shipping.
3. Waiting until you have several blankets ready, then sending in one larger box within the Parcel
Post guidelines should be the most cost-effective shipping method.

Special Tip for “no-sew” Blankets
Instead of knotting your fleece “no-sew” blankets, try this method. Your blankets will lay nice
and flat and never pucker or bunch up!
Cut your fringe strips wider than the 1” typically recommended – about 1-1/2”.
Then cut a small slit about ½” to 5/8” long through both pieces of fleece at the base of each strip
as shown. The easiest way to do this is to fold the fringe pieces over and cut about ¼” into the

fold (instead of trying to poke the scissors through the fleece). You’ll need good scissors!
Thread both ends of the fringe through the slits in both pieces of fringe and pull all the way
through.
Done! Your fringe should look like this. A nice even loop that will lay flat and never bunch up.
Good luck, and have fun!
