Thomas Connolly Bar Our Story
Thomas Connolly's pub was first licensed in 1861. There's a great account of Connolly's in the book The Irish Pub, by James Fennell and Turtle Bunbury. Connolly's storied past includes at least one visit from Charles Stewart Parnell during the pub's early days, plus Thomas Connolly himself becoming Mayor of Sligo in 1890 (the same year he acquired the premises). The pub was established during a time of plentiful maritime trade; deliveries of rope, linen and tea came into Sligo on ships from all over Europe. There was once a grocer’s shop at one end of the pub – now gone – popular for making sugar, selling tea and bottling whiskey. These days, Connolly’s is best known for its warm welcome, its famous pint of stout, and its relaxing atmosphere. In the pub there’s an ever-growing Craft Beer, Whiskey and Gin collection. Recently we’ve introduced a new whiskey menu where we are offering tasting trays of select single malt varieties. On the craft beer front, we’ve also designed a craft menu that is constantly updated with new arrivals on rotation taps and bottles. We have a range of european red, white, rose and prosecco wines by the glass. We believe in choice and so gluten-free and non-alcoholic beer options are readily available. We’ll also happily prepare a freshly ground or speciality coffee of your choice. Commencing on June 1st. through to the end of August we have live music every evening for the summer season. A mix of traditional Irish music, trad fusion, acoustic and swing Jazz will be accompanied by touring musicians and guest artists. COME JOIN US.
