Back to School. This summer has flown by and it’s time
for another addition of our Award Winning Recreation
Guide. There are lots of exciting after school, fitness,
sports, music and other activities to keep you busy until
the Holiday Season! Please take a second to check
out the guide and share it with your family and friends.

As I am typing this letter we are preparing to bid a very
exciting project. The Heuser to Valley Forge Park section of the Schuylkill River West Trail! Once this trail is
complete (construction to start sometime in October
2014), residents will be able to walk or bike from Bob
Case Park to Valley Forge Park. What a great way to
stay fit and be active!

PARK & RECREATION TEAM
The other project we are working on is the construction
of the brand new Community Center located at 431
West Valley Forge Road. By the time this guide
reaches your door, construction will have begun on this
amazing, full service center complete with gymnasiums, classrooms, art studio, cooking studio, state of the
art fitness center and much more!! The facility is
scheduled to be open sometime in the late 1st Quarter
of 2015.

Director: Science Explorers Staff. Have you ever seen softball –sized hail? Watched a lightning bolt slam into a tree and
burn to the ground? Sound scary? Not if you are prepared! Join us to learn all about weather. You, the meteorologist, will
create and use your own weather station to predict changes in the weather. Construct a barometer to track air pressure
changes, simulate a weather front, calculate wind speeds and make a tornado in a bottle.

HALLOWEEN DANCE BASH
INTRO TO CHEERLEADING: Ages 5 & up. This class is an introduction to cheerleading. It will provide a great foundation to become a
cheerleader. It will introduce skills in motion, jump technique, and basic
stunting.
Come join UMDGC for a spooky good time! Learn some of the “Thriller”
dance, enjoy fun games, activities, and open workout in the gym. Come in
costume if you wish, prizes awarded for the most creative costume
(s)! Snacks and goodie bags provided. Register by Sun. Oct. 19th to save

IRISH STEP: Ages 6 to 12. Irish Step combines artistry, grace, and
physical ability. Class will focus on basic footwork and jumps including
"hop 1-2-3's and "7's." Introduces solo and social (or "ceilidh") dances.
NINJA WARRIOR: Ages 6-12. The class is designed to make the
participant feel like a member of the popular tv show "American Ninja
Warrior. It includes many exercises designed to build strength, agility,
and speed in a fun and creative way using out state-of-the-art gymnastics
facility. Great way to exercise while having a great time.
TRICKING: Ages 10 to adult. UMDGCs first martial arts class. Martial Arts Tricking is an up-and-coming sport combining traditional martial arts with gymnastics. Tricking involves high-flying acrobatic flips
with flashy hard-hitting kicks from Tae Kwon Do. Tricking has been
featured in every new super-hero movie.

HOLIDAY CAMPS
Nutcracker campers will dance to the music of the Nutcracker ballet,
learn about the characters, create a fun art project, as well as play fun and
exciting holiday-themed games. Gymnastics campers will receive instruction on all of the gymnastics equipment including trampoline and
tumbltrak. Tumbling camp is perfect for cheerleaders looking to learn
tumbling skills. Focus will be on rolls, cartwheels, roundoffs, back handsprings, and back flips. Progressive instruction will be provided on the
spring floor, foam floor, tumbltrak, and trampolines. Bring a healthy
snack, bagged lunch, and drink every day.

they do independent activities, watch child-oriented TV programming, or relax.

Wizards’ One-Night Wizarding Magical Melee! Director: Brandywine Learning Center. The time has come for all young witches and wizards to focus on their wizarding
studies! School is back in session, and The Brandywine School of Wizardry’s Professors are ready to have some fun and

This is an advanced and intense workout session designed to help aspiring players to develop advanced basketball shooting skills. The
workout will include the use of the latest technology in basketball shooting. It incorporates game-like shooting situations such as shooting off the dribble, shooting off the pass, and shooting off a screen. Space is limited. 1) Certified lifeguards are on duty at listed times.

Join to have fun, to get into shape, or for friendly competition in a positive environment. Train for fitness, for a triathlon, an
open water swim, or any other competition. Swimmers will be assigned to lanes with others of similar ability. Swimmers
may include former high school/college swimmers, competitive swimmers, experienced triathletes, open-water swimmers,
entry-level triathletes, or adult fitness swimmers with no previous swim team experience.

be hooked! The Rambler is a fixed route bus service
that travels throughout King of Prussia Monday-Friday
from 9 AM to 4 PM. The service is free for seniors with a
PennDOT pass. Children and students between the
ages of 7-17 can ride for just 50 cents, and children under the age of 6 ride free when accompanied by an adult.
A regular one-way fare is $2.00, or 10-trip tickets can be
purchased for only $10.00.

EXPERIENCE THE EXCITEMENT OF
COMPETITIVE SWIMMING AND DIVING
SWIM TEAM: Open to kids of any age – providing they are
able to comfortably swim the length of the pool. Weeknight
practices begin September 9th. Meets are held on Saturdays
from November-January, plus championships in February. We
also offer a USA swimming program and extended season
through March for interested swimmers for an additional fee.
Our swimmers and their families enjoy special events and a
season–ending Recognition & Awards Banquet.
Cost varies by practice group; ranging from $220 to $295. Sibling discounts are available. High school swimmers invited to
practice with UMAC in the pre-season for $100, with a meetsonly option for $50
Returning Marlins may register ONLINE at our website before September 9th!
New swimmers MUST attend the in-person registration on Monday, Sep. 8th.
THIS IS A PARENT-RUN ORGANIZATION AND PARENTS ARE REQUIRED TO HELP OFFICIATE AND VOLUNTEER IN A MINIMUM OF
THREE MEETS - NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
DIVING PROGRAM: For new and experienced divers; practices begin the week of September 9th and meets are held in
conjunction with the swim meets, from November to January,
with championships in February. Interested divers may also
register for AAU and participate in additional meets and an
extended season. Experienced divers new to the team
would need to show up at the in-person evaluation on
Monday, September 8th. Cost: $220
SEASON PRACTICES ARE HELD ON
TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS,
STARTING NOVEMBER 11th AND ENDING IN
MARCH.
DIVING TRIAL: Not sure if you’re ready for the diving team?
We’re offering a 4-week diving trial for new divers, starting the
week of September 9th. Interested divers need to be evaluated in person on Monday, September 8th. Please check
our web site in late August for more information.
Registration Fee: First child $75, second child $50, no
fee for any additional children. The clinic fee will be $25
per wrestler. If the wrestler continues into the season
after November 11th, the $25 clinic fee will be applied
towards the registration. No Refunds will be issued after
November 20th. Make checks payable to UMYWA.
MINNOWS: Beginning in early February, the Minnows program offers instruction in competitive swimming strokes for
children ages 5 – 8 who can swim but are not ready to join the
team. Limited enrollment on a first come, first served basis.
Registration will be held in late January; check our website in
December for details, and look for flyers to be distributed in
local schools in early January.

All Activities and Trips:
• Only people who are registered prior to the start of an
activity will be permitted to participate.
• Classes will be cancelled 48 hours prior to their start if
the minimum number has not been reached.
• Upper Merion Township Park & Rec. complies with the
Americans With Disabilities Act.
• Participants must abide by all rules & regulations set
forth by Upper Merion Park & Recreation relating to participation in the above trips & activities, including Upper
Merion Area School District rules & regulations pertaining to illegal drugs, weapons, and smoking.
• All activities and trips are filled on a first-come firstserved basis. A spot can ONLY be reserved upon receipt of completed registration form & entire fee.
• Senior Citizen prices for ages 62 and up, must be an
Upper Merion Residents to qualify (UMASD residents).
• Prices, dates, times & locations are subject to change
without notice.
• In inclement weather, check our web site or contact the
Park & Recreation Department (610-265-1071) or program director to see if the activity is cancelled. Classes

Trip Info:
• Prices for trips include ticket & transportation, unless
noted. Any tickets will be distributed on the bus.
• Buses depart from and return to Upper Merion Township Building Lower Lot. Please park in the lowest level
parking spaces.
• Do not board bus before the chaperones.
• Children under the age of 5 are not permitted on trips
transported by School busses.
Refund Policy:
• Refunds will only be issued by township check within 30
-60 days and are subjected to $10 processing fee.
• Requests for trip refunds must be requested 7 days
in advance of trip date; no refunds will be issued
less than 7 days prior to trip date unless spot can
be filled from waitlist.
• All requests for refunds must be made prior to the
start of the second class. No refunds will be given
unless notified before the start of the second class.
There are no make-ups, pro-rating or refunds for
missed classes.

• I grant permission for a licensed physician and hospital to provide emergency care for the above-mentioned individual. Ambulance cost is my
