October 2010 The Missing Link It’s not your Momma’s Junior League But Let’s Make Momma Proud! Mission The Junior League of Arlington is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. We are delighted to have guest speakers from the Joan Katz Breast Center at Baylor All Saints Medical Center of Fort Worth. For the noon meeting, Sherree Bennett, RN and Director of the Joan Katz Breast Center will be our guest speaker; for the evening meeting, Joan Katz, a breast cancer survivor, will be our guest speaker. Our speakers will share information about empowering women and about services and support offered to those diagnosed with breast cancer. So no scary ghosts here: only messages of hope, survival and friendship. The Hospitality Committee has been busy stirring their caldrons; we’ll be featuring a variety of boxed dinner salads from McAlister’s Deli and perhaps a magic “potion” or two. Meal plans are still available for purchase, or individual meals may be purchased for $11.00 at the meeting. Please join us and let's Say BOO to Breast Cancer!!! What an amazing opportunity to participate in some wonderful training and networking with leaders from 292 Leagues from across the US, Canada, Mexico and the UK . The sessions AJLI provides are amazing, but the information sharing between workshops and during meals is just as valuable. We tried to soak up as much information as we could to bring home and share with our leadership team. Our trip also reminds me to encourage ALL of you to utilize the AJLI website. There is an abundance of information, research and training to be shared. Do you know about the AJLI blog? It’s a good place to start: http://connected.ajli.org/category/blog Returning home from the crisp air of Portland to the cool fall breeze here at Kimberly Phillips and Paulette Tutor home, I’m feeling the excitement that is Holiday Magic! It’s hard to believe in Portland, Oregon the Kick Off Party, “One Night in the City” is this Friday! Grab your tickets fast if you haven’t already. It’s going to be a great party with our friends at Splitsville! Holiday Magic is our largest fundraiser and it takes the entire membership to make it a successful series of events! So, please plan to attend. Invite your friends and family as well. The more successful Holiday Magic is – the better equipped we are to serve the Arlington community! I’d like to challenge every member to invite at least two people to the Market, the Children’s Party, the Luncheon, the Happy Hour and/or the Kick Off Party! …and if you see a Holiday Magic Committee member this month, give them a hug and a big “thank you” for all they are doing to make this a FABULOUS Holiday Magic!
