Say
Boo to
Breast
Cancer
Leave the goblins at home, hop on your
broom (or in your car) and join us for
either the noon or evening October General Meeting!
We are delighted to have guest speakers
from the Joan Katz Breast Center at
Baylor All Saints Medical Center of Fort
Worth. For the noon meeting, Sherree
Bennett, RN and Director of the Joan Katz
Breast Center will be our guest speaker;
for the evening meeting, Joan Katz, a
breast cancer survivor, will be our guest
speaker. Our speakers will share information about empowering women and
about services and support offered to
those diagnosed with breast cancer. So
no scary ghosts here: only messages of
hope, survival and friendship.
The Hospitality Committee has been busy
stirring their caldrons; we’ll be featuring
a variety of boxed dinner salads from
McAlister’s Deli and perhaps a magic
“potion” or two. Meal plans are still
available for purchase, or individual
meals may be purchased for $11.00 at
the meeting. Please join us and let's Say
BOO to Breast Cancer!!!

A Message From the President
Paulette and I have just returned from AJLI Fall Leadership Conference in
Portland. What an amazing opportunity to participate in some wonderful
training and networking with leaders from 292 Leagues from across the US,
Canada, Mexico and the UK . The sessions AJLI provides are amazing, but
the information sharing between workshops and during meals is just as
valuable. We tried to soak up as much information as we could to bring
home and share with our leadership team. Our trip also reminds me to encourage ALL of you to utilize the AJLI website. There is an abundance of
information, research and training to be shared. Do you know about the
AJLI blog? It’s a good place to start: http://connected.ajli.org/category/blog
Returning home from the crisp air of Portland to the cool fall breeze here at
Kimberly Phillips and
Paulette Tutor
home, I’m feeling the excitement that is Holiday Magic! It’s hard to believe
in Portland, Oregon
the Kick Off Party, “One Night in the City” is this Friday! Grab your tickets
fast if you haven’t already. It’s going to be a great party with our friends at Splitsville! Holiday Magic is
our largest fundraiser and it takes the entire membership to make it a successful series of events! So,
please plan to attend. Invite your friends and family as well. The more successful Holiday Magic is –
the better equipped we are to serve the Arlington community! I’d like to challenge every member to invite at least two people to the Market, the Children’s Party, the Luncheon, the Happy Hour and/or the
Kick Off Party!
…and if you see a Holiday Magic Committee member this month, give them a hug
and a big “thank you” for all they are doing to make this a FABULOUS Holiday
Magic! They have definitely been Making Momma Proud!
Best,
Kimberly

Sustainers and the City
Wow! What a great turn out we had at the Sustainer and The City fall party! Tara Horst opened her beautiful home to over sixty
-five Sustainers. Our very own Sustainer Studs, Kent Horst, David Baker, and Andrew Wood spent the evening as waiters making
sure our cups runneth over with Sassy Sustainer-tinis created & catered by Donna Cannon.
Communication is a big part of what we’re striving for in keeping us informed. For fun we gave out prizes to the first person to
RSVP via the following:
Phone Message: Lou Arnold
Email: Lauren Tatum
Text: Jennifer Hensley
Facebook: Mary Burnette
A big thank you to Bree Butler for distributing yearbooks and
taking new profile pictures. A personal thank you to Sarah
Wood and Jennifer Donk, Social Chairmen, for all their help
and to Shirley Estrada for her expertise. Jane Hatton is our
new “Bunko Babe” for our Sustainer Bunko group.
Peggy Kulesz, Sustaining Advisor, still needs help with Holiday
Magic. Please consider signing up for a work shift to help in
the League Booth: email Peggy at [email protected]. You
may also choose to show your support with a financial contribution: mail it to Peggy Kulesz, #2 Rushing Meadow, 76016.
Bookworms will review How to be a Movie Star - Biography of
Elizabeth Taylor, by William J. Mann, on Wednesday, October
20, at the JLA center, 12:30pm.
Until next month,
Diane Mycoskie, Beth Hellier, Jennifer Donk, Ginger Baker,
