We offer as standard next day delivery for orders placed
before 14.00. We have an outstanding turnaround record
of between 48 and 72 hours for repairing tools at our inhouse tool repair department in Truro.
THE TOOL REPAIR CENTRE IN TRURO
Our team of mobile engineers cover the UK providing
on-site service support, ensuring that our customers
have minimum disruption to their operations and
minimum down time for tool repairs. We design and
manufacture our core range ourselves which allows us to
ensure quality, reliability and consistency of products.
ITW Industry provides a graphic design service free of
charge (excluding print costs) for the design of anything
from stationery, marketing literature to full brand identity
to help our customer’s drive sales.

charge training in the safe use and maintenance of our
products. There are two approaches to our safety
training; train the operator and train the trainer.

productively. It is a key element of work for our
team of highly experienced mobile engineers to
provide such training at your workplace.
EN792-13 system supply
ITW Industry have consciously chosen to supply a
fastening system, which means to research, develop, test
and market both fasteners and power fastening tools for
optimal performance under safe conditions, as referred
to in EN792-13, “Hand held, non-electric power tools Safety requirements for fastener driving tools”. EN792-13
specifically states that fasteners listed in the operating
manual must be seen as one unit system in terms of
technical safety.

Standard
For safe operation of Paslode pneumatic tools, use only those fasteners identified in the
operating manual.
Hand arm vibration
As part of the CE-declaration of conformity the vibration
levels of all power fastening tools should be recorded.
The vibration level is measured as a single event
vibration energy, according to CEN ISO/TS 8662-11:2004
as referred to in EN792-13.
Noise
Sound or noise levels can be measured as sound
pressure level and sound power level. The sound
pressure level is a measure of small pressure fluctuations
above the normal atmospheric pressure.
The sound pressure level depends on how far away the
measuring equipment is from the tool, and on the
measuring environment. The sound pressure level is
important because it relates to the loudness of the sound
and to the potential damaging effect on hearing.
The sound power level is a measure of the total noise
radiated by the tool in all directions. It is a property of the
tool and is independent of the measuring environment.
Sound power levels are useful to:

Calculate the sound pressure level from a tool (or
several tools) at a given distance in a given
environment.

Compare the noise output from different tools.

Set specifications for the maximum noise from a tool.

Compare machines before and after modifications to
reduce noise.
Either of the sound levels could include a standardised
frequency weighting to represent the frequency response
of the human ear, called “A-weighted sound pressure
level” and “A-weighted sound power level”.

The sound levels are measured according to the
“Acoustics - Noise test code for fastener driving tools Engineering method” EN12549, as referred to by
EN792-13, in which the following noise levels are
described:

A-weighted single-event emission sound pressure
level at work station, LPA, 1s, is measured at a distance of
0.3m behind and 0.5m above the centre point of the
tool. This measurement position is approximately the
ear position of the operator.

A-weighted single-event emission sound pressure
level, LPA, 1s, 1m, is measured at 10 different predetermined positions, 5 times for each position

The A-weighted single-event sound power level, LWA, 1s,
is calculated from the LPA, 1s, 1m.
Corrosion protection
ITW Industry provide a very wide range of
fasteners for exposure to a variety of
environments and meet the requirements of
National, European and International building
codes, particularly Eurocode 5.
Eurocode 5 sets minimum requirements for corrosion
protection, which apply across Europe according to
three Service Classes. These are primarily concerned
with the moisture content of timber. It is essential to
consider also the variations in environmental factors
across Europe and more locally, particularly the
differences between urban and rural locations, proximity
to the sea and other aggressive atmospheres.
Here we identify the anticipated life of each protective
coating we offer, using the breakdown in ISO12944 Part
2 regarding the rate of corrosion experienced in these
locations:
Environmental Typical conditions
classification (temperate climate)
Inside heated or air-conditioned buildings with clean

atmosphere, low relative humidity and no likelihood
of damp or condensation.
Internal occasional damp or wet conditions,
C2
unheated buildings where condensation may occur.
External environment with low level of pollution and
dry climate, mostly rural areas, sheltered conditions.
C3
Urban and industrial environments, moderate sulphur
dioxide pollution. Coastal areas with low salinity.
Industrial areas with high sulphur dioxide and coastal
C4
areas with moderate salinity.
Industrial areas with high humidity and aggressive
C5
atmospheres. Coastal areas with high salinity.
The following colour code used in this catalogue and on
our product labels provides a quick, high visibility check
that the appropriate finish is being used:
Bright steel = no corrosion protection
Meets Eurocode 5 Service Class 1 requirements for dry internal
locations, nails only.
Electro galvanised 5µm
Meets Eurocode 5 Service Class 1 requirements, for nails only.
Typical life in C2 environmental class is 7 years or 2.5 years in C3.
Electro galvanised 12µm
Meets Eurocode 5 Service Class 2 requirements for nails and
staples. This is the minimum protection for staples, even in Service
Class 1. Typical life in C2 environmental class is 17 years or 6 years
in C3.
Galv-PlusTM (ITW proprietary system)
Galv-Plus is a zinc-aluminium alloy which gives a 70% better
corrosion protection than a pure zinc coating. A 15µm coating is
applied to the wire before the fastener is formed. Surpasses
Eurocode 5 Service Class 2 requirements. Typical life in C2
environment class is 28 years or 10 years in C3.
Hot dipped galvanised
Fasteners are dipped in a bath of molten zinc to achieve a minimum
coating of 55µm. Meets Eurocode 5 Service Class 3 requirements.
Typical life in C2 environmental class is 70 years or 25 years in C3.
Stainless steel A2-304
Meets Eurocode 5 Service Class 3 requirements. Will provide over
50 years life in C3 environment. Superficial discolouration can
occur. To avoid this select A4-316.
Stainless steel A4-316
Meets Eurocode 5 Service Class 3 requirements. Suitable for C4
and C5 environmental classes. Will not discolour.
It is also necessary to consider wood treatments and
wood species as these can react with different coatings.
For instance, it is always recommended to use stainless
steel fasteners to attach Western Red Cedar and
Douglas Fir cladding.

Eurocode 5 & CE marking
Eurocode 5 (EN 1995-1-1:2004 Design of
timber structures) is gradually being phased in,
making significant changes to the way that
calculations are made and components
chosen. In some cases this will significantly
change design decisions. ITW Industry supply
fasteners that meet the requirements of the
new rules, supported by datasheets and
software to help in the choice of the most
appropriate solution. These can be
downloaded from our website.
Eurocode 5 is one of ten Eurocodes aimed at
harmonising the standards for all construction products
across Europe, simplifying the choice between
competing products and opening up the market,
encouraging the spread of knowledge and best practice.
It also sets minimum acceptable performance criteria.
The objective of Eurocode 5 is that all construction
products will be CE marked to show that they are safe
and fit for purpose in terms of;
Mechanical resistance and stability

Safety in case of fire

Hygiene, health and the environment

Safety in use

Protection against noise

Energy economy and heat retention
The CE mark will supercede national standards.
Eurocode 5 is essentially an ongoing process which will
be implemented as the component European standards
and ETAGs (European Technical Approval Guidelines)
are agreed. Several standards or ETAGs affect fasteners
for timber construction, including;-

ETAG 015 3D connectors

ETAG 011 Light composite wood based beams and
columns

ETAG 001 Metal anchors for use in concrete (where
fixing sole plates or wall plates to masonry structures
The detail of these is all subsidiary to the calculation and
performance criteria of Eurocode 5 and the permitted
variations of the National Annex. In particular 3 Service
Classes cover the variety of conditions to which building
components are exposed;
Service Class 1 = Internal fixings and fasteners,
protected from cold and damp.

Service Class 2 = Fixing of sheathing, battens etc…
which are outside the thermal insulation, but not
directly exposed to weather

Service Class 3 = Exposed directly to weather
These service classes essentially deal with the moisture
contained within the timber and additional consideration
needs to be made of the local environment (see page
10). It is fundamental to Eurocode 5 that the minimum
design life of most buildings is 50 years and this should
always be born in mind by the engineer.
EN14592 concerns fasteners not covered by more
specific approvals (e.g. fasteners for non-structural
plasterboard or fasteners for attaching 3D connectors).
The applications it relates to include timber frames and
sheathing, external cladding, roof construction. It
stipulates the requirements for factory production control
and for the independent testing of characteristic strength
values for withdrawal, head pull through and yield
moment.

Pneumatic overview
By combining the specialist capabilities of the
Paslode, Duo-Fast and Haubold organisations
ITW Industry is able to offer the widest range of
pneumatic tools and fasteners, to meet the
needs of various industry sectors across many
application requirements. We strive
continuously to improve our product offer;Duo-Fast 0° Plastic Coil Nails and Tools
Provide major safety, productivity and quality benefits.
The KD665RN tool has recently been introduced to the
UK, to fix plasterboard with special concave head nails
which are designed to provide a solid fixing without
ripping the cover paper and a better key for plaster
skimming.
Paslode PL (paper laminated) Tape Nails and Tools
Ideal tools for frame nailing. We are now able to offer the
unique RounDrive nail, which provides a full round head
offset from the nail shank. This maintains the PL tape
benefit of close collation of nails whilst improving the
final aesthetic of the fixing. The Toolmatic SP560 now
allows RounDrive PL collated nails to be fixed on
automated lines.
Duo-Fast and Haubold Plastic Strip Nails and Tools
In addition to the Duo-Fast Frame Nailers which utilise
nails collated on thermoplastic strips for standard
framing applications requiring nails up to 100mm long
we can now supply Haubold RN130, RN160 and RN220
nailers which can fasten nails up to 220mm long.
Wire Weld Coil Nails and Tools
We now offer an 8 tool programme, including the new
RNC57, RNC70 and RNC83 models which are designed
for continual use in such heavy duty applications as
pallet manufacture. With the fitting of extra large coil
magazines we can jig mount these to provide low cost
automation solutions.
Paslode Finish Nailers and Brads
We offer a comprehensive range of finish nail solutions
from 14 gauge to 18 guage, including both straight and
angled magazine tools.
Staplers and Staples
ITW acquired Haubold in 2007 in recognition of its
leadership in creating innovative fastening solutions with
staples and staplers, such as the PN29150D, designed
to fasten wood fibre board up to 120mm thick with
150mm long staples. Haubold have pioneered the use of
staples for applications such as sheathing and framing,
proving that in many instances they provide a better
technical solution than traditional nail solutions.
Haubold Corrugated Fasteners
In May 2007 Haubold won the German Timber Award for
Innovative Building Products with the Jumbo corrugated
fastener. This 35mm wide nailing device provides the
opportunity to re-think the fastening process; making it
safer, stronger and more economic.
Fastening to steel
With the introduction of the BOLTECman tool from
Haubold, a whole range of new high speed fastening
solutions become possible for steel to steel fixing.

Duo-Fast plastic coil nailing system
The safest, cleanest and most productive nailing system.
In-line production and quality control are key features of
ITW’s European manufacturing of these fasteners to
ensure the consistent high performance that minimises
line downtime and expensive remedial work.
Plastic coil collation
The unique Duo-Fast 0° plastic coil collated nail system is developed
for construction and industrial applications. The Duo-Fast system
delivers significant advantages in terms of productivity, quality and cost
efficiency.
Productivity
Nails up to 75mm long are collated on coils of 325 nails, providing a
high degree of autonomy. For automated tools, such as our Toolmatic
CT550, larger coils are available, resulting in even longer intervals
between re-loading.
Quality and safety
This method of collation ensures the high quality corrosion protection is
not damaged by any violent process (like welding) and independent
salt spray tests show the nails can last 15 times longer before showing
signs of rust compared to the wire welded equivalent. When using
inferior wire-welded coil nails, shards of welding wire can fly loose
causing injury to the operator or be trapped under the nail head,
potentially tearing sheeting material. The collation process is equally
suitable for hot dip galvanised and stainless steel nails, again without
damaging their corrosion resistance.
Cost efficiency
The precision moulded plastic tape collation transports extremely well
with no production halts due to misaligned nails as is often the case
with wire welded coils.

Paslode PL tape strip nailing system
The paper laminated (PL) tape collated nail strip will not
break when dropped and will not deteriorate in wet
weather. Also no collation material is left on the job site.
PL tape collation is driven into wood to reduce flagging.
The D-head and RounDrive nail configurations allow for
tight collation of the nails – more nails per strip, less
down time.
In-line production and quality control are key features of our European
manufacturing of these fasteners to ensure the consistent high
performance that minimises line downtime and expensive remedial
work.
The PSN90 and PSN100 have been designed to meet the needs of
pre-fab manufacturing of frames and can also be used on automated
production lines.
This catalogue details the products readily available from UK stock, but
we can offer products from our broader European offers with short lead
times through our commitment to manufacturing in Europe. For
instance, RounDrive nails offered to suit our Impulse cordless tools can
be supplied to suit our pneumatic PSN90 and PSN100.1 tools. We
also offer a wider range of nails with hot dip galvanised coatings or
even in stainless steel A2 or A4 to provide the best levels of corrosion
resistance, advisable for instance when fastening red cedar cladding.

the thermoplastic strip won’t allow the strip to

Finish nails / brads are predominantly used for
industrial joinery and 2nd fix applications where
the aesthetics of the fixing finish is important.
Brads are available from stock in both 18 and 16 gauge
wire, in lengths ranging from 13 to 64mm in galvanised
and stainless steel qualities. Heavier duty 14 gauge
brads and tools are available to special order for
staircase construction or similar tasks. ITW Industry also
offers modified brad nailers for fixing glass beading.
Brads are manufactured with small discreet head sizes
to minimise any adverse decorative effect.

Stapling system
When Haubold joined ITW in 2007 they brought
with them over 100 years experience in staple
and stapler development.
The ITW Industry stapling programme now provides the
most innovative range of solutions available from fine
wire 20 and 22 gauge staples for fixing breather paper,
foils and linings to 14 gauge heavy staples up to 150mm
long for fastening insulation and even structural
applications.
To cover the breadth of applications for staples, we offer
staples with crowns as narrow as 5.8mm and as wide as
27mm.
Galvanised and A2 stainless steel staples are available
from stock, whilst we can also offer to special order
1.4529 grade ultra corrosion resistant stainless staples
for extreme conditions.
The tools shown here are those most regularly required
in the UK, but from our pneumatic tool engineering and
manufacturing unit and dedicated automation unit, both
located in Germany we are able to provide even more
application specific solutions.
Hog rings
We also supply 16 gauge hog rings for tools not
covered in this brochure.

With the introduction of three new corrugated
fastener tools to the UK, all of which have
proved extremely successful in Germany, we
extend the capabilities of this fastening method
to many more applications. The benefits can be
considerable in terms of economy, safety and
performance.
The Haubold Jumbo fastener is a 35mm wide corrugated
fastener designed to join two OSBs (15mm+ thick)
butted to one another without a batten, thus saving time,
material and ultimately cost. The fixing can also be used
to temporarily fix roof truss joints prior to pressing
nailplates.
When fixed at 50-150mm spacing the Jumbo fastener
achieves similar values to nails or staples with a batten.
The system has been tested in Germany under the strict
control of VHT (the German body for independent testing
and approval of building materials for timber
construction), and has been granted the national
German approval Z-9.1-608. Furthermore, in 2007 the
product won a German timber award for innovative
products.
When constructing panels, operators sometimes attach
noggins with nails by firing back towards themselves.
The use of Jumbo corrugated fasteners can eliminate
this potentially dangerous practice.

modular building and more frequent use of
steel in timber frame construction, ITW Industry
has focussed on speeding up the fastening
process with pneumatic systems which are
quicker than self drilling screws and rivets.
These factory oriented systems complement

BOLTECman®
For several years Haubold has been working on a
system to provide the benefits of pneumatic fastening for
attaching thin sheets of steel, aluminium or plastics to a
steel / aluminium base. The objective was to provide the
same quality of finish as that provided by rivets, bolts
and screws, but without any need to pre-drill or access
both sides of the joint. This objective has been achieved
with the launch of BOLTECman as a hand held fastening
system. The system has already been launched to the
automotive industry, but also offers major speed,
aesthetic and performance benefits to many applications
in other industries, including;- modular building and also
solar panel, container, white goods and steel door
manufacturing.

SPIT started manufacturing powder actuated
fastening systems more than 50 years ago, in
Valence, France, where our dedicated
manufacturing facilities continue to develop this
versatile fastening system, capable of making
strong attachments to both steel and concrete
structures.
Heavy duty fastening power
The SPIT P370 provides a very fast and portable solution
for fixing to concrete and steel, including the fastening of
sole plates for timber construction. The powder charge
actuates a piston which in turn hammers a drive pin
through the attachment into the base material. This low
velocity system minimises the risk of injury with a strict
control of the exit velocity of the fastener.
SPIT P370 cartridges are supplied on unique 10 charge
steel discs, providing the following advantages over
plastic strip systems:

No wasted shots

No danger of plastic expanding or distorting when hot

The disc is completely enclosed within the tool cover
The SPIT P370 is the simplest and fastest PAT tool to
maintain or repair. Because regular cleaning of PAT tools
massively improves their performance and extends their
life, we focussed on making the disassembly and reassembly of this tool as simple as possible, without the
need for special tools.
The SPIT P370 can be supplied either as a single shot
version or fitted with a 10 fastener magazine for the
fastest operation. Specific drive pins are offered for fixing
to harder concrete and construction steel. We also offer
drive pins fitted with 14mm diameter steel washer for
fixing more delicate attachments or to provide a higher
resistance to pull over loads.

the correct and safe use of the SPIT P370.
