MUTICULTURAL AWARD
SBPL was one of three libraries in the state
recently recognized at the New Jersey Library
Association Annual Conference in May for its
multicultural programming, specifically our
Community Cultural Conversations events.
Each library received a $1,000 award. Director
Chris Carbone accepted the award for SBPL
from NJ State Librarian Mary Chute.
As part of SBPL’s strategic planning process, the
Library Board of Trustees has adopted the above as the
Library’s new, updated mission.
Coming Soon!
hoopla
Digital Collections!
The Board has also adopted a vision statement, or an
aspirational description of what it is that we are working
to achieve. Our vision is that:
These statements set the foundation for what SBPL
does, what services we provide and what guides our
strategic goals and decision-making.
Through our membership in the
Libraries of Middlesex Automation
Consortium, SBPL cardholders will
soon have access to instantly borrow
free digital movies, music, eBooks and more, 24/7. Bringing you
hundreds of thousands of movies, full music albums, audiobooks
and more, hoopla is a revolutionary digital service made possible
through SBPL and LMxAC.
The Library’s new strategic plan has four areas that
SBPL will be emphasizing for further development
and focus. They are: Community Engagement and
Outreach, Content Management, Marketing and Public
Awareness and Technology and Digital Literacy.
From Hollywood blockbusters to best selling artists and authors
– not just the hits, but the niche and hard-to-find as well – you’ll
soon discover that hoopla provides you the freedom you’ve been
searching for to experience, explore and enjoy what you want, when
you want, and where you want.
We look forward to continuously improving our service
to the community and providing virtual and in-person
services that foster learning, self-improvement and
connecting with you and your neighbors!
Simple to access and use, without the hassle of having to return
the items you’ve borrowed, all you need is your library card, a web
browser, smart phone or tablet to get started.
SBPL will be the foremost education, social and
technology center providing opportunities for
discovery and connecting our community.
Information on setting up a free account with hoopla will soon be
available at the library and on our website www.sbpl.info !
Library Director...
IT’S BINGO TIME!!!
Playing Bingo this summer will take you on a journey of discovery to not
so far off libraries and a great many prizes! Get your playing cards at
South Brunswick Public Library or Bookmobile beginning June 15 and
play through Aug. 15.
continued from the cover.
The Association provides numerous professional
development opportunities for library staff throughout
the year, hosts an annual Spring Conference, and
advocates on behalf of New Jersey’s libraries.
The consortium LMxAC (Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium)
is celebrating its 30th anniversary with an uncommon game of Bingo.
This game is of course designed to encourage book borrowing and such,
but it also will help users of its member libraries, such as SBPL, get to
know each other a little better.
“I have found such inspiration and great mentors
through NJLA, which has given me many opportunities
to work with numerous talented colleagues throughout
the state. I’ve learned and continue to learn so much
that I can bring back to SBPL to help our Library keep
moving forward. It’s an honor to be selected by my
peers to lead our Association and I’m very excited for
the challenges and achievements of the coming year,”
Carbone shared.
To participate, players can earn stamps by activities including visiting a
library in the consortium and borrowing a library item. The activities can
be done at any library in the consortium. Six stamps in a row in any one
direction wins the player a gift card from a national chain store. If you fill
the entire card, you’ll win a gift card plus a chance to be entered into a
drawing for an iPad mini.
Visit the Borrower Services Desk or the Bookmobile today to get your
LMxAC Bingo Card and start playing to win!
