Students had great fun playing with their hair on the ‘Whacky Hair
day’. From colors to glitter to wigs to clips, it was amazing to see
the dash of creativity in each and every hairstyle.
Four students (Elim, Louis, Sania and Aditya) presented their
biographies in the Friday assembly. These were chosen by the rest
of the students to share their work with the primary school. It was
indeed a sign of open-mindedness where these youngsters
acknowledged and appreciated their friends’ work.

UNIT OF INQUIRY
Moving on with our inquiry on ‘How do we move’, students read books
and shared their findings on muscular system, in 2 groups. We also learnt
about the importance of exercise in keeping our muscles healthy, during
a PE session. Students carried out an investigation to see the impact of
exercise on pulse rate, by going through the steps of a scientific process.
We also learnt to keep some components in ‘control’ and some as
‘variables’. Students wrote down the steps of the investigation and also
plotted a graph.
The next body system which we focused on was digestive system.
Students watched a video and read the book, ‘Why my tummy rumbles’
to understand the process of digestion. They made a labeled diagram
and represented their understanding through a flow chart depicting the
entire process.
This week the students developed an understanding of
how to solve addition and subtraction word problems.
The students were divided into four groups according to
their levels and were given differentiated tasks on Word
Problems which actually dealt with real life situations.
They also did Speed Tests on addition and subtraction in
which they were timed and eventually given scores.
Some of the group levels had fun solving math puzzles
and they also created their own number stories and
word problems.
This week students completed writing ‘biographies’, but only after a
round of editing, rewriting and publishing. First round of editing focused
on sentence structure, punctuations, tenses and vocabulary. Then they
were made to look into thesaurus to replace some common words by
interesting words. After writing their final drafts, students self assessed
their work using a rubric with rating scale, the criteria being organization
of information on a graphic organizer; creativity and presentation on
the collage and mechanics of writing. Students also reflected on the
process by writing down why they feel proud of their work.
We read a poem on the digestive system and students highlighted the
rhyming words and learnt about alliteration as a part of appreciation of
poetry. They also chose an interesting title for the poem. Students also
took dictation of the UOI related vocabulary.
Standard Hindi: This week the children did some comprehension
exercises of the lesson, ‘संगठन में शक्ति है ’. They also did a creative piece
of writing related to the lesson.
Beginners’ Hindi: This week students learnt names of fruits and
vegetables in Hindi through plastic vegetables as well as pictures. They
were also introduced to Hindi counting till 15. Students practiced to
identify colors in Hindi.
Physical Education: This week students were
briefed about the benefits of exercising, in order to
keep their muscular system healthy. Then they
carried out an investigation to find out the effect of
exercise on the pulse rate. Students measured their
pulse rate before running, just after running and
after resting for 2 minutes. The reasoning was
explained to them after the activity.

In Indian music, students learned the Taali, Khaali &
divisions of Taals, Teentaal & Dadra along with the
claps & bols (syllables). They also did Sargam patterns
along with the beats & started a song ‘Itni Shakti Hume
Dena Data’. They practised Harmonisation exercises as
well.

Note: Students have been given a notebook with a reader’s task to be
done over the weekend. They have to choose one story book from their
last readings and do the task accordingly in the notebook. Kindly ensure
to send the task card back on Monday.
