Two efficient terminals

/ Services
Terminal 1 (T1)
Terminal 1 was opened in 1992 and hosts all non-Star Alliance air
lines. Each of the 5 modules (A-E) has its own arrivals and departures
areas. With very short distances, Terminal 1 is tailor-made for the
needs of point-to-point traffic.
03
Terminal 2 (T2)
Terminal 2 which was completed in 2003, is a joint venture between
Munich Airport and Lufthansa German Airlines, and the world’s first
airport terminal to be jointly planned, financed and operated by an
airport and an airline. It has become one of Europe’s fastest and
most efficient terminals and is specifically tailored for the needs of
transferring passengers.
By 2015 a new satellite terminal is scheduled for completion
offering space for an additional 11 million passengers per year.
The new facility will be linked to Terminal 2 via a fast underground
passenger transportation system. Passengers arriving or depart
ing through it will continue using the check-in, ticket desks and
the arrivals area in Terminal 2.
Basic information of the two terminals
Terminal 1: Orientation-friendly, modular structure, perfect
for point-to-point traffic.
Terminal 2: Europe’s newest transfer terminal for Lufthansa,
Star Alliance and code-share partners.

Business facilities at Munich Airport
A short experience report
of Angela Geissler,
Munich Airport’s Account
Director North America:
Just imagine the comfort of arriving at an airport with no lines at
security checks and no hustle in the baggage claim area. Upon
landing at Munich Airport, a VIP WING staff member will meet and
transfer you to the VIP WING via an Audi A8. A dedicated immigra
tions officer will check your passport and within minutes you will
already be entering the lounge area. Once inside you can shower,
work in a private alcove, visit the bar and buffet, or order a meal.
It is also possible to reserve VIP Suite for total privacy for example
with a private bathroom, lounge and working area. You can choose
from four individually designed VIP Suites to make your stay most
comfortable. While you’re relaxing in your own VIP Suite or in the
Wing, your luggage will be picked up by a staff member, brought
to the VIP WING, and can even be transferred to your hotel directly.
Once you experience our VIP WING and service, you’ll never want to
travel any other way.

Regional and long-distance trains
German trains are operated by Deutsche Bahn AG and other pri
vate transportation companies. Most regional and long distance
trains depart from Munich Central Railway Station/München
Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) and can be reached from Munich Airport via
S1 or S8 rapid-transit rail lines (S-Bahn). Within Bavaria there
is a dense railway network, allowing one to reach towns, regional
economic centers and neighboring countries such as Austria, the
Czech Republic, Italy or Switzerland by train. For smooth travel
without long waiting times, an hourly service with good connec
tions via regional and semi-fast (express) trains is provided. The
fastest and most comfortable train is the high-speed InterCity
Express (ICE). For a trip to south-eastern Bavaria, it is best to
travel with the S8 to Ostbahnhof to connect with the regional and
long-distance train network.
In Germany it is not necessary to book train travel in advance.
Simply purchase a ticket and board the train. When traveling with
the ICE however, it is recommended to make a seat reservation for
an additional charge.
Tickets can be purchased at DB ticket machines or in DB ticket
offices, which you can also find at Munich Airport.

Incentive travel in Bavaria
Restaurant recommendations
Bavaria is not only Germany’s no. 1 holiday region, but a top
incentives destination as well. Its numerous sports and leisure
facilities coupled with Bavarian coziness make the region a perfect location for incentives.
Munich offers a full variety of cuisine from gourmet dishes to
traditional Bavarian food. To list them all would go beyond the
scope of this brochure. Here are two insider tips:
Bavaria’s attractive offerings range from medieval towns to met
ropolitan cities surrounded by picturesque landscapes. Whether
you’re interested in fairytale castles, impressive soccer arenas, art
treasures or outdoor activities, Bavaria offers something for every
one. For the adventurous, anything is possible: rafting, rappelling,
ballooning, paragliding, mountain bike and snowshoe hiking tours,
ski jump workshops, rallies in German cars and survival training.
For those who just want to relax, savor a first-class dinner at one
of 12 Munich restaurants with 1 – 3 Michelin stars. Or just spend
an evening in a cozy mountain lodge enjoying traditional Bavarian
cuisine and German beer.

located on top of Germany’s
highest mountain Zugspitze.
The so called »igloo village«
offers overnights in igloos and
several other activities like
building one or more traditional
igloos block by block with the
help of teamwork. Afterwards
the teams have the chance to
spend the night in their igloo.
There are more events available
such as guided snowshoeing
trips or a barbecue in an igloo.

Maria Krieger, Bavarian Beer Queen in 2013 recommends:
One of my favorite breweries in Munich is the traditional Weisse
Bräuhaus which is centrally located adjacent to Marienplatz. The
Bräuhaus brews a very fine Munich Weissbier, Schneider Weisse,
a dark »hefeweizen« beer. Enjoy a Bavarian meal and choose from
different types of wheat beer.
The owner Georg VI pairs his per
sonal wheat beer favorites with
different meals. You’ll always
find good company here such as
students, business people and
locals of Munich. The Weisse
Bräuhaus is the ideal restaurant
to experience genuine Bavarian
atmosphere.

Meal and drink prices already include tax and service. If you
are satisfied with the service, it is customary to round up the
bill with a tip of 5% to 10%.

Munich experience
In Munich, old meets new, past meets present and future, modern
blends harmoniously with traditional, bits and bytes with beer,
business and leisure. There’s never a shortage of sights to see or
activities to engage in. Shop til you drop in one of Germany’s larg
est pedestrian zones at the Kaufingerstraße or visit the Viktualien
markt. Munich’s oldest and most picturesque market offers a great
variety of fresh food and delicacies. The fastest way to experience
Munich is to have a so called taxi guide tour. For more information
see page 31.
To reach the City Center, take the S8 or the S1
from Munich Airport to Marienplatz.
See the city map on pages 52/53.

Landshut
Landshut is a city that captivates again and again. The city offers
a lively picturesque boulevard and romantic charming side streets.
There are new things to discover with every step such as historical
buildings and modern art. St. Martin’s Church along with Trausnitz
Castle are the most important landmarks of Landshut. The Brick
Gothic church is the tallest in Bavaria made without steel supports,
and is 130.6 meters high.
Castle Trausnitz
The castle was established in Landshut as a seat of the Wittels
bacher family in 1204 by Duke Ludwig I of Bavaria. The castle
can be recognized by its impressive medieval fortifications like
the high Wittelsbacher Tower or the castle chapel with its distin
guished sculptural decoration and is definitely worth a visit. The
best view in town of the Isar River can be enjoyed standing next
to the Wittelsbacher Tower along the castle walls.
