Floating Piers 2016
Program
1st day - Arrival at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
2nd day - Mantua
Mantua is the new Capital of Culture 2016. This title was achieved
in a head-to-head competition with other cities: Aquileia, Como,
Herculaneum, Parma, Pisa, Pistoia, Spoleto, Taranto and Terni. The
project presented by Mantova includes 14 municipalities in an
overall plan that includes substantial investments in following
monuments and areas: Ducal Palace, Cage tower, Palazzo Te,
Industry and food products. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
3rd day - Lake Iseo “The Floating Piers“
Bus ride to Lake Iseo, where Christos’ latest project “The Floating
Piers” is performed. For 16 days, visitors will have the opportunity
to walk on the 16 meter-wide floating dock, which connects the
island with the mainland over three kilometres. 70,000 square
meters of shimmering orange-yellow fabric were used. The
installation, which journalists already called “yellow bridge” offers
the opportunity to the visitors to access the artwork and to walk
on water. Christo will connect the lakeside village Sulzano with the
island of Monte Isola and lead the panels also to the villages.
Afterwards a winery-tour including wine tasting and rich dinner
with Aperitif Franciacorta sparkling wine and many delicious
typical products from the region is programmed. That will surely
be a successful goodbye. Overnight stay at hotel.
