Kool Keith is a legend, his distinctive flow first heard on the classic late 1980’s Ultramagnetic MC’s tracks, and since then on
record as Dr. Octagon, Rhythm X, Black Elvis, Dr. Dooom, Big Willie Smith, Sinister 6000, and in the groups Cenobites, Masters of
Illusion, Diesel Truckers, Project Polaroid and more. Tashan Dorrsett is his newest (and freshest) alias in a long list of pseudonyms.
The album (a true ‘album’ - not a collection of tracks cobbled together by someone outside Keith’s circle) is a departure from his
more science fiction/fantasy-oriented characters (Dr. Octagon & Dr. Dooom), he instead offers up a gritty Bronx reality show,
starring Tashan as the antihero – the concept described by Keith in his own words:
“Tashan Dorrsett is the reality person from New York City with an image of being real and regular, dealing with daily life
situations. The essence of urban living to its all time fullest, block after block, the brick buildings, the hot sun... Areas and
struggles of the ghetto I myself walked and experienced. You can't live it through television, you have to walk out and touch it
like I've done for years. To all the areas that many people will not visit, I will constantly.”
The album is entirely produced by DJ Junkaz Lou, who has worked closely with Keith in the past (The Collabs Tape, Official
Space Tape), as well as with Kutmasta Kurt, Marc Live, Mr. Sche & Tim Dog. His production style augments Keith’s lyric well, a
sinister edge complementing the day to day events relayed by Tashan Dorrsett.

Radio is not your average instrumental album. Exile did not want to just
put beats on a record. He wanted everything to be unique and different,
from the starting concept to the final message of Radio. Sampling
vocals off the radio, Exile overcame the challenge and succeeded in
creating a positive message on an instrumental album. As Exile says,
“Good and evil are present on the radio. With this record I express love
in contrast to evil. I did not want to put an album out showing only my
talent… I needed to share with the listener what I have learned from my
life. In this case, the radio.”
Los Angeles based artist Aleksander “Exile” Manfredi is not the first in
his family to create music. His father, Albert Trent Manfredi (R.I.P.) and
grandfather Alberico Manfredii were both musicians. His father released
some 45’s in the 1960’s that are now highly sought after. His grandfather
not only taught music but also played in a diverse mix of bands ranging
from Mariachi to traditional Italian music.
At an early age Exile was exposed to a wide variety of music. Living in
his grandfather’s garage, he learned to play the accordion. His father
was experimenting with drugs at the time and was not around much.
Exile moved with his mother and sister to a two bedroom, Section 8
apartment. With no money or car and barely enough food… paid for
with welfare checks and food stamps, he sought refuge in music.
Exile’s early exposure to Hip Hop grew into the desire to create the
music he loved himself. At the age of 18, Exile met up with rapper, Aloe
Blacc, 16 years old at the time. With a one-button sampler and a four
track they formed Emanon and started making their own albums. Exile,
then met 19 year old rapper Blu and together started work on his solo
effort Dirty Science, featuring Slum Village, MED and Ghostface Killah.
Together they also made the critically acclaimed classic, Blu and Exile’s
Below The Heavens.
After producing tracks for artists such as Mobb Deep, Jurassic 5, Akon
and Snoop Dog; he continues to excel in the art of creating music with
his first instrumental album entitled Radio. This is an album you can
listen to from start to finish and expect to be taken on a ride each time.
Let us spread the awareness, understanding and appreciation of Radio.

The Tones are progressive masters in the creation of soulful and honest Hip Hop in its most appealing form.
Being compared to the likes of Common, Kanye West, Blackstar, A Tribe Called Quest, Slum Village, and
Little Brother, many might wonder how such a sound can be derived from the California Bay Area.
This versatile duo consists of rapper/producer Retro and rapper/singer Suhn, who can sing anything from
soul music to opera. Dreamtalk is an album about pursuing dreams and living through the struggles and
pleasures encountered along the way. It also gives motivation to others in pursuit of their dreams.
Dreamtalk challenges the Hip Hop community with potent content. With vintage rhymes and vintage beats,
The Tones are here to deliver a classic album.
Since the group first formed in 2001, The Tones have toured with the likes of Common, Slum Village, Little
Brother, The Roots’ drummer Quest Love, and Dr. Cornell West. Additionally, the Tones have been creating
a huge buzz on the internet and on blogs as well as receiving a cosign from Grammy nominated
rapper/actor Common with comments such as “The Tones are some real soulful brothers.”

Here in Boston, virtually every serious Hip Hop show is orchestrated by rap promoter Leedz of Leedz
Edutainment who, unlike the vast majority of cats in his profession who throw parties for the props,
actually makes a living pushing live music. In addition to bringing underground and commercial ringers
from across the map to rock shows, Leedz pairs visiting MCs with Boston's top talents. The result, after
long wait, is the upcoming Mass Movementz: The Album.
The Album features an explosive lineup of MCs and producers including Ill Bill, Slaine, Reef The Lost
Cause, U-God of Wu Tang Clan, Fatlip of The Pharcyde, Casual of Heiroglyphics, C-Rayz Walz,
Copywrite, Mic Geronimo, EDO. G, Termanology, Blaq Poet, Esoteric, Last Emperor, Pacewon, EL Da
Sensei, Wise Intelligent, Rite Hook, Kno of CunninLynguists, Amadeus The Stampede, Blak Madeen,
Matty Trump, and more.
Finally - with this chance to hear Beantown's premier gunners rhyming side-by-side with heavyweights
from every corner of the industry - maybe the music world will now see that Hip Hop from Massachusetts
doesn't mess around.

Recorded February 24-25, 2008
at Firehouse 12 in New Haven, CT
Dragon’s Head is acclaimed Brooklyn-based guitarist/composer Mary Halvorson’s debut recording as a
bandleader. Recorded at Firehouse 12’s state of the art studio in New Haven, it features ten new original
compositions written specifically for her working trio with bassist John Hebert and drummer Ches Smith. She
has previously composed music for recordings with her chamber music duo with violist Jessica Pavone and
the avant-rock duo, People, with drummer Kevin Shea, but this is her first release alone at the helm of her
own ensemble. “I have always gravitated towards the guitar/bass/drum trio format,” writes Ms. Halvorson in
the liner notes. “I have wanted to write for this instrumentation for years, but this project is the first time I
have actually attempted it. This trio is also a great excuse to work with two of my favorite musicians; I wrote
all of these songs with Ches and John’s playing in mind. I also took it as an opportunity to experiment with
different compositional forms, as well as varying harmonic, melodic and rhythmic components.” The New
York Times’ Ben Ratliff writes, “It took only a few seconds to see the good sense in the band: no matter how
abstruse the music can get, it rested on a strong, simple principle of balance and contrast.” Guitar Player’s
Elliott Sharp adds, “While the group uses acoustic bass and clearly lies within the ‘jazz’ camp, it sounds like
no other...dissonant arpeggios melding into pounding odd-meter repetitive grooves, spidery textures
becoming cracked melodies, and jazzy vamps fragmenting into vicious free-form interactions, with
Halvorson wrenching blistering lines and rude sounds from her guitar.”

“Synthetic Substitution”

Melody Mix
In 1973, a little-known record was released that defined the sound of Hip Hop drums:
“Synthetic Substitution.” This song is universally acknowledged to be the source for
boom-bap kicks and snares, having been used in hundreds of songs by every big
name producer to ever touch a sampler. Now, for the first time, an alternate version of
this landmark cut has surfaced. This is no sloppy, bar band cover made for a quick
buck – the U.B.’S (a shadowy group of serious session cats, put together by Victor
“The Undercover Brother” Piagneri) have crafted a meticulous rework that honors not
only the signature drum intro but also the moody melodic heart of this most soulful
classic. Side one of this 45-only release features a Wes Montgomery-esque guitar
taking the lead role while the flip showcases the tough, tight instrumental backing.
“Synthetic Substitution” is essential, stop-you-in-your-tracks material for all beat heads
and a real keeper for the soul heads.

HUEY, MAINO &
GLASSES MALONE
“Strictly Business” DVD
Huey, Maino, and Glasses Malone team up in Atlanta to
plot the biggest Armor truck robbery in history in Best Of
The Block’s Strictly Business. This DVD is inspired by the
video “24/7-365” featuring all three artists that is currently
in rotation on MTV. This DVD brings you the top three
draft picks from Rap’s three major markets: Huey from
Down South, Maino from the East Coast, and from out
West, Glasses Malone. With Nelly on vacation, St.
Lunatics still out fishing, Chingy still one hit away,
Memphitz introduces Huey, St. Louis' New General
rated one of the top 3 artist to check for in 2009, Coast
to Coast. Huey controlled the Billboard charts last year
with his smash single "Pop Lock & Drop It". Destined for commercial success, his new album set to release
in '09 and is said to be packed with features from some of the biggest names in the music business. Raised
in Brooklyn, this voice of the future of East Coast rap returned home after serving 10 years in a state
penitentiary, ready to tell his life story through music. With the lost of B.I.G. and count down of Nas and JayZ's future retirement, Maino has to fill big shoes, but he is more than up to the task. And last but certainly not
least, this newest member of Cash Money Records is set to carry the weight of West Coast on his
shoulders. Glasses Malone grew up around gang banging, drugs, and violence, but in his hood he's like
LeBron James -- the hope and the future of a region that in the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s dominated Hip Hop
with a gangster-like flow and an unmistakable swagger. Best Of The Block is proud to present these three
rising Rap superstars together, in Strictly Business.
