careers. Our mission is to tap this potential and help you on your way as you communicate globally with confidence
and conviction – true to the Berlitz guiding principle Speak with Confidence.
The paths on this journey are just as diverse as the communication situations depicted in our catalogue. We
serve as a one-stop shop for efficient teaching according to your specific needs in order to increase your language,
intercultural, and management and leadership skills.
Our teaching curriculum stands out not only on the basis of its breadth and depth, but also because of the flexibility

have further developed our Online Live Seminars this year and now offer new topics with practical content in a
modern training format: live teaching over the Internet from wherever you are, with a team of teaching experts.

OUR MISSION. SINCE 1878.
OUR SKILLS
A DECISION IN FAVOR OF TOP QUALITY
CHOOSE YOUR FOCUS AND MAKE USE OF SYNERGIES
Since the first Berlitz language school was founded in 1878, we have been entirely focused on one thing:
namely, helping you to communicate confidently. What started out as purely language teaching has since
evolved into a diverse array of communication seminars for the global working world – at 500 locations in more
than 70 countries around the world.
Our wide array of courses equips you with skills in three areas:
•Language teaching, intercultural training and seminars for management and leadership skills – all from a single
source
•More than 135 years of experience, including over 30 years’ experience in distance learning and intercultural
training programs
• A pioneer in the development of innovative teaching programs
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Practical knowledge of a foreign
language for your business success
• More than 300,000 satisfied customers every year
• Most European countries certified in accordance with ISO 9001 for professional quality management since
2003
INTERCULTURAL
SKILLS
MANAGEMENT AND
LEADERSHIP SKILLS
Specific knowledge about values
and behavior, broken down into
six different cultural levels
Solid expertise in the areas of
leadership, sales, customer and
project management, working
methods and communication
SKILLS TO THE POWER OF THREE
Berlitz teaching focuses on communication. But other skills are needed in the working world in addition to knowledge
of foreign languages. Depending on your needs and personal specifications, there are important and necessary
over- laps, which Berlitz covers with its modern teaching in the three areas of language skills, intercultural skills,
and management and leadership skills.
For example, an international management seminar conducted in English will equip you not only with management
and leadership skills, but also intercultural and language skills. You will then truly be ready for the challenges of
the modern-day business world.

THE WORLD OF LANGUAGES
BERLITZ LEVELS AND CEF
LANGUAGE TRAINING ACCORDING TO YOUR NEEDS
LANGUAGE SKILLS MADE COMPARABLE
We can offer all those interested in languages just the right teaching program, be they an experienced manager or
a management trainee, a self-employed person or an employee, a keen traveler, someone with a thirst for
knowledge or an Internet-based learner.
The Council of Europe’s Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CEF) divides language
proficiency into different levels to make the learning of languages and evaluation of language skills more
transparent and comparable. Berlitz will test your language skills before each course for free. The ten Berlitz
levels can then simply be aligned with the CEF levels and the online points scale (for e-learning).
All our programs involve lively dialogue, fun, motivation, excellent teachers and modern content. In other words,
top teaching quality from Berlitz.

CORPORATE GROUP INSTRUCTION
SHARED SUCCESS FOR YOUR EMPLOYEES
RECOMMENDED COURSE INTENSITY
Our corporate group courses are an effective way of developing the language skills of several employees in a
goal-oriented manner. Take advantage of all the benefits of our comprehensive training evaluation system starting
with a precise analysis of your needs and level as well as determining the individual content right up to a detailed
evaluation of success.
Three stages with one result: maximum success! Our three-stage intensive learning concept is an option applicable
to our corporate group courses and guarantees quick and lasting learning of your language goals. The concept
begins with a short period of intensive learning, followed by regular follow-up language learning in the form of
weekly lessons and then further intensive learning. This keeps the language fresh in the participants’ minds and
continuously boosts their confidence in using the language in day-to-day situations.
The training format:
Stage I: Two days of intensive learning
• Corporate
Group Instruction with an optimum of 6-10 participants: The course is run entirely flexibly to meet
your needs, as the number of lessons and schedule can be arranged as required. There is no fixed contract
length.
Program content
• Job-related, practical content
• Targeted development and expansion of vocabulary
• Intuitive learning of grammar
• Typical business terms and phrases
• Learning plans from many industries
In the first stage, the course participants are intensively immersed in the foreign language, which they actively
use for at least half of the teaching time. Numerous role-playing exercises and simulations serve to refresh and
build on existing language knowledge.
Intensive confrontation with the foreign language results in the participants speaking and thinking in the target
language in no time, without the need for translation exercises.
In all
languages!
Program benefits
• Available for all living languages
• Speed and dynamics tailored to the course participants
• Comprehensive training evaluation system
• Instruction either at the Berlitz Center or directly at the company
• High degree of customization!
On request, course content and learning aims are fully adapted to suit your individual requirements while
incorporating your own case studies, specialist terminology and specialized course materials. Read more on
page 86.
Stage II: Weekly lessons
This is when the knowledge acquired during the intensive stage is continuously consolidated, reinforced and built
on.
Stage III: Additional intensive learning days every four to six weeks
Active class-based exercises are used to refresh what has been learned in the weekly lessons – with the aim of
then being able to continue to apply this knowledge in practice. Again, the participants use nothing but the target
language all day long and practice work-related situations in particular to fully prepare them for day-to-day
linguistic challenges. This also boosts the participants’ motivation.
Intensive learning days are ideal for specifically practicing work situations (sales pitches, meetings, lengthy
telephone calls, etc.) in the foreign language in a compact and clearly structured course.
LEARNING PROGRESS
One day of intensive teaching
(ideally once every four to six
weeks)
Lessons one to two times a week

AND ADVERTISING
BECAUSE IT’S OFTEN THE SMALL THINGS THAT MATTER
INTERNATIONAL BRANDS NEED GLOBAL PEOPLE
Many business meetings end without achieving any results as an important phase has been omitted: small
talk. In this seminar, participants will practice greeting guests, introducing themselves, giving a tour of the
company, making small talk and inviting visitors to dinner during varied partner exercises and role-playing
exercises.
In this course, you will acquire the language skills advertising professionals need to successfully roll out marketing
plans, advertising campaigns and strategies worldwide. You are the primary target group here – specifically the
employees of advertising agencies as well as those in marketing, PR, event management and communication
departments.

FOCUS ON THE CUSTOMERS
‘The Berlitz Virtual Classroom (BVC) was a key element in Lilly Critical Care Europe's choice of Berlitz as
a comprehensive language service provider. Had BVC not been an integral part of the Berlitz portfolio of
services it is quite reasonable to suggest that a significant portion of Eli Lilly's needs would have to have
been satisfied by another language service provider. Notwithstanding, the level of service from the Berlitz
Virtual Classroom has been consistent with that received via physical Berlitz Language Centers.
Additionally, those employees engaged in Berlitz Virtual Classroom lessons have responded very favorably
to the medium, interaction and convenience of learning online.’

LANGUAGE PROGRAMS
FOR KIDS AND TEENS
FUN WITH FOREIGN LANGUAGES
BERLITZ LANGUAGE CAMPS DURING SUMMER TIME
Fun is the biggest motivator for children and young people – and this also applies when learning a language.
For this reason, our language programs are designed in such a way that the participants are actively involved
from the outset – for example through exciting role-playing activities, language games, varied exercises and
coverage of age-appropriate topics. Studying vocabulary and grammar is taboo!
Language study trips in combination with attractive leisure and sports activities are the secret to the success
of our popular Berlitz camps. Held throughout Europe, the camps allow seven- to 17-year-olds to actively learn
English, German, French and Spanish all day long, as the only language spoken from the time they get up to when
they go to bed is the target language!
Kids and teenagers are divided into small groups according to age (usually 4–7, 8–11 and 12–17 years) and their prior
level of knowledge. This encourages interaction and ensures a relaxed atmosphere. Rapid learning success helps
them develop their personalities, instills confidence and opens up new possibilities – at school or in their subsequent career choice.
Motivational lessons in the morning encourage the participants to speak. And in the afternoons and evenings,
they continue to learn without realizing it during a wide array of activities. When can we expect to see your child
there?
Our language programs at a glance:
• Kids and Teens weekly courses: regular weekly lessons
• Kids and Teens holiday courses: daily lessons for an entire week during school holiday (Monday to Friday)
•
Kids and Teens Individual Instruction: intensive one-to-one language lessons at a Berlitz Center or in the
Berlitz Virtual Classroom

The global challenges of the modern-day working world often call for multi-layered know-how that cannot usually
be fully covered in a single seminar. We therefore offer all our seminars as learning paths, too, comprising three
steps that follow on from each other logically and that combine various topics to get you up to speed in your
chosen area of expertise.
You will receive exclusive and highly effective continuing education which is tailored to your company’s specific
needs and requirements. Learning success is further boosted by our own case studies and the incorporation of
technical terminology.
On the following pages, you will find an overview of nine such learning paths. We can, of course, also happily put
together learning paths that are tailored to your specific challenges.

CULTURE AND CULTURAL
DIMENSIONS
WHAT IS CULTURE?
There are many possible definitions of "culture". Thinking of culture in terms of a people or society it can be defined
as a shared system of attitudes, values, ideas, customs, beliefs and behavior. Our culture is also influenced by
education, geography and history. But not all of our behavior is determined by culture, e.g. our individual personality
plays a major role.
Organizational
Identity
Group
Individual
Intercultural communication is complex
There is always a complex interplay between culture in all its forms, the individual and the situation.
To understand your business partners, you need to know about their personalities and cultural background and
consider the situation you are in: Is the market booming or slowing down? Are they customers or suppliers? What
is the relationship to your partners?

6 LEVELS OF CULTURE
Organizational Culture
Corporate mergers and acquisitions frequently deliver below expectations, partly because cultural differences
are significantly underestimated and the cultural dynamics in an M&A experience are misunderstood.
Individual Culture
The building blocks of culture at any level are present in both intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics. Through
awareness and understanding of cultural conditioning, clients develop global leaders that drive change and
transformation.
Team Culture
The need to manage across time zones, language, technology, and a broad spectrum of cultural differences to
create a team culture is no small feat. Intact teams and interdependent work groups develop a shared team
culture to optimize collaboration across time zones, languages, technology, and cultural differences.
Sense of Self
The Sense of Self dimension contains the cultural orientations that impact how people tend to interact and
communicate in the workplace.

National/Societal Culture
Companies focus on opportunities in emerging markets to develop awareness of culturally conditioned behavior
and cultural dynamics and patterns by nationality.
Functional Culture
Cross-functional product or management teams manage and leverage their differences carefully, bridging
distinct cultural differences across their constituent units, creating a strong collective identity.
Social Identity Groups
The diversification of society has made differences by gender, generation, ethnicity, religious beliefs, affiliations,
and socio-economic class increasingly relevant. Diversity initiatives recognize the cultural context of gender,
racial/ethnic, generational and other social groups to leverage their unique contributions.

WORKING IN VIRTUAL TEAMS
CHANGE MANAGEMENT
NEW WORK TECHNIQUES FOR A NEW AGE
TAKING THE STING OUT OF CHANGE PROCESSES
As work becomes more global and more flexible, it makes a significant impact on team structures and work methods. Virtual teams are increasingly replacing direct daily contact in the office. This is resulting in new communication, organization and management challenges: in addition to there being barriers of a spatial, time-based and often
also linguistic nature, the team members can also represent cultural differences.
Nothing is as constant as change, and it is happening increasingly often at ever-shorter intervals. Companies
are forced to adapt rapidly to survive in the marketplace, making change management a motivational task.
Change processes tend to be unpopular within a company, as the unknown initially causes pressure and uncertainty
among staff.
The participants are given an insight into the advantages and risks of virtual cooperation and develop rules for
virtual and intercultural communication. Exercises help them to avoid communication pitfalls and to work on
projects together successfully, in spite of the spatial distance between team members.
This is exactly where this seminar comes into play. It shows how to assign responsibility to teams, and how
employees can grow as individuals through these change processes. Learn practical ways to encourage
communication, innovation, creativity and effective networking within your company. Develop strategies to actively
include employees in the change process and motivate them to assume responsibility. This forms the basis for
the successful introduction of new structures into a company.

HOW TO BEHAVE SUCCESSFULLY IN
NEGOTIATIONS 2
KEEPING THE GOOD ARGUMENTS COMING
THE RIGHT STRATEGY ON HAND AT ALL TIMES
These days, the business partners on both sides of the negotiating table are well prepared. The processes of
persuasion are becoming more and more complex and goodwill alone is no longer remotely enough to influence
a counterpart’s decisions.
Negotiations over deadlines, pricing and the scope of a project are part of day-to-day business. We want to be
well prepared for our negotiation partner in order to arrive at the best possible solution and results.
In this seminar, the participants analyze their negotiation style and then learn concrete techniques with which to
adeptly state their own case even when faced with difficult business partners. Using example cases, they learn to
cleverly build up their ‘must-have’, ‘should-have’ and ‘can-have’ arguments, take the wind out of counterarguments
and handle manipulation attempts. The Harvard concept serves as the basis for fair discussions with a win-win

SELF-ORGANIZATION AND
TIME MANAGEMENT 1
FOCUSING ON WHAT REALLY MATTERS
When faced with more and more responsibilities that are increasingly diverse, your diary can get so full that there’s
little time for planning and reflection. But time and energy are your most important resources. Self-organization and
time management are therefore key skills when it comes to successfully working towards your goals.
The participants in this seminar learn a repertoire of tried-and-tested and new concepts that will help them structure
their day better, prioritize and execute tasks more efficiently or delegate them to others. They will identify and then
use their ‘own’ effective tools in order to manage their time better and refocus on what really matters.

Making careful use of your time and energy is becoming more and more important. Good self-organization and time
management not only boost your work success; they are also fundamental to limiting your personal stress level and
to maintaining your quality of life at an appropriate level.
In this advanced seminar, the participants use practical examples to learn about the effects of multitasking, putting

MY PERSONAL RESILIENCE @WORK
CREATIVITY TECHNIQUES
BUILD UP YOUR MENTAL STRENGTH
THIS SEMINAR IS A GOOD IDEA
Most of us experience opposition, setbacks and stress in our daily work due to increasing pressure to perform,
interpersonal complications or simply the number of tasks we have to complete. Resilience is the mental strength
a person needs in order to come out of a crisis stronger. And the good news is that resilience can be learned.
Faced with innovation and change processes, increasingly demanding customers and ever-tougher competition,
creativity is a key resource for any company. However, routines, tunnel vision and the urgency of day-to-day
business activities frequently inhibit existing creativity potential and prevent us from tackling tasks in new ways.
And yet there is creativity that lies dormant in all of us – it’s simply a question of tapping it. The secret to this is to
push inhibitions aside, take the road less traveled and be open to new things.
If people use certain mental techniques and positive routines, they are able to more happily tackle their day-to-day
lives, even during a crisis. In this seminar, the participants find out what being resilient is all about. They assess
themselves and discover their own best-practice strategies for greater resilience at work. The seminar also offers
them additional stimuli for strengthening their personal resilience.

EFFICIENT COMMUNICATION
PRESENTATIONS 1
EFFECTIVE AND RESPECTFUL
PRESENTATION IS EVERYTHING
Efficient communication is now more important than it has ever been. It is the rock upon which businesses and
careers are built and is a key component of continued success. Significant communication always entails a connection
being made between the interlocutors that leaves a lasting impression – be it in a personal discussion or in e-mail
correspondence.
These days, presentations should not only be impressive in terms of content – they also need to come across as
entertaining and professional. This first presentation module takes a structured approach to presentations and
teaches tips and tricks for successful presentation preparation and execution.
In this seminar, you will learn to integrate efficient and respectful communication into your daily life. You will be
given pointers regarding how to develop a truly pleasant and amenable communication style that leads to positive
results for you and your company.
Bearing your topic and target group in mind, you will develop a winning dramaturgy that engages your audience.
You will make targeted use of visualisation elements and highlights, and will learn how to use PowerPoint and
other media more effectively. You will then present your results in a plenary session or as part of group work and
will jointly develop best practices.

When speaking to an audience, you are presenting not only your topic, but also yourself. This second presentation

yourself.
Using various exercises for rhetoric and outward appearance, the seminar participants take a closer look at how
they behave in front of a group. They will give brief and spontaneous presentations, and will use the direct

HOW TO RESOLVE CONFLICTS 1
DEALING WITH CHANGE
A VICTORY WITH NO LOSERS
BECAUSE THERE’S NOTHING MORE CONSTANT THAN CHANGE
There is all sorts of potential for conflict within a company that can be a burden on working relations and that can
become a problem for everyone. Those involved can then quickly lose sight of the shared company goals. What’s
the right way to handle disputes within a team and fundamentally improve working relations?
Change is becoming something routine. Rapid changes to customer needs, corporate strategies, products,
processes, structures and work conditions do not always constitute a positive challenge for our flexibility and can
sometimes be overwhelming. It therefore stands to reason that not all change is initially welcomed with open
arms.
You will start by analyzing your own behavior in conflict situations using self-analysis and then develop effective
strategies for de-escalation and solution-oriented understanding. You will then practice tried-and-tested approaches to handling conflict using concrete examples, with everyone getting involved.

HOW TO RESOLVE CONFLICTS 2
THE SOLUTION IS WITHIN YOUR GRASP
Conflicts can arise in any work environment. Conflict resolution skills are becoming more and more important in
order to be able to quickly recognize and then avert the emergence, escalation or perpetuation of a conflict. How
can you tackle tricky situations professionally and deal with the parties of the conflict?
One of the primary objectives of this seminar is to have the opportunity to practice. After brief revision of the first
seminar, the participants are familiarized with the key elements of successful conflict resolution. These are then
applied to a concrete case study. The participants are also invited to contribute cases of conflict they have
experienced themselves to the seminar.

FACILITATING INTERACTIVE
MEETINGS
HOW TO GIVE AND RECEIVE
FEEDBACK
TURNING MEETINGS INTO YOUR FAVORITE DISCIPLINE
SO THAT PEOPLE TAKE THINGS THE RIGHT WAY
It takes a high degree of personal, social, organizational and methodical expertise to prepare and conduct meetings
efficiently and expediently. It’s never just about the matter at hand: it’s also always a question of the willingness to
work, the communication and the dynamic within the team.
Feedback is needed in daily work processes and meetings in order for everyone to work towards the same goals.
Constructive feedback helps you to modify your self-perception and check your behavior. But while good
feedback can be extremely helpful, carelessly made criticism can be highly destructive as it results in defense and
therefore conflict.
Practical knowledge of discussion types and work stages helps the participants to conduct work meetings in a
structured manner. Moderation techniques serve as tried-and-tested tools with which to delegate tasks,
develop solutions and guarantee results. An example demonstration involving various team roles allows for
reflection and transfer.
In order for feedback to be well received and for it to have an effect, the participants start by examining their own
communication styles and then familiarize themselves with the rules of feedback for both the giver and receiver.
They learn techniques for respectful communication and practice them in partner and group exercises.
