Sharp Calculators have a secret
weapon . . . Drill Mode!
Build the confidence of a pupil doing maths and suddenly
the world of numbers opens up and reveals the magic
and mystery of a dynamic engagement that so many
pupils never get to experience. Sharp Corporation is first
to recognise that pupils respond to mental stimulation
and certainly enjoy an exciting challenge and for this

A unique APP for the Sharp EL-535 scientific calculator
is one such feature that assists pupils on their way!
It has a Drill Mode that generates maths questions and
allows the pupil to type in the answer on the calculator.
This concept is very similar to a math drill that they
already do in the classroom with their teacher but
now the calculator marks the answer for the teacher!
Parents (many of us are challenged with those tough
maths questions!) are now able to help their children by
using this great tool. In such a technologically advanced

SOUTH AFRICAN maths & SCIENCE
EDUCATION IN CRISIS?
Last week the World Economic Forum released a shocking
report rating South Africa 146th out of 148 countries
for education as well as rating SA in last place for
Maths and Science education. Although this report has
created a lot of controversy and many people, including
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, have denied
the validity of this report, there is still a huge need to
improve the standard of education in SA, especially when
it comes to something as crucial as Maths. Seartec, proud
distributor of Sharp, has recognised this need to assist
teachers who are struggling with large classroom sizes
and a heavy workload of prep, marking and admin and
has provided a solution to assist in this critical arena.
We also wanted to assist learners who aim to excel in
maths. We have created a website (www.mathsatsharp.
co.za) where teachers can download free CAPS aligned
worksheets for Grade 8 to 12 Maths as well as Maths
Literacy with fully worked out memos. We have also
designed a learner section where students can download
study guides on specific chapters which they struggle
with. These resources have been designed to help
teachers to provide learners with extra practice examples
so that they can improve their grasp on any maths topic.

Think of a trend that seems to explode all over the world rather quickly,
much like the Beatles took Britain by storm in the 60’s. This is what’s
happening in Port Elizabeth with the relaunch of the SEARTEC brand.
It started with the successful FINRO JUMBO CASH & CARRY Golf Day. FINRO
call themselves “the true giant of Africa” but truth be told they also hold
a giant of Africa golf day, with well known celebrities, 38 watering holes,
168 golfers, a goodie bag that is overwhelmingly generous and prizes that
match no other day.
Following a successful road show, this rise continued with team Seartec
winning the first PSG Konsult Golf Day at Humewood. A Sharp Interactive
white board has become the latest technology for golfers to check in and
track their progress. The golf day again allowed Seartec to use the Sharp
90inch IDP, advertising Seartec's product offering and illustrating the
effect of digital advertising.
Seartec is continuing to take the friendly city by storm. Make sure you're

FINRO CASH & CARRY GOLF DAY 2014: Raising funds in good spirits!

Masiphumelele R.F.C. was formed in 2004 when three rugby
working together to put infrastructure and rugby grounds into
clubs from Masiphumelele township merged. The All Blacks,
place, muster up support from the community and sponsors
Evergreens and Homeboys decided to join forces in one
to sustain a multi-racial rugby club. Within 18 months, Masi

R.F.C. had two pitches and a match venue. The club has grown
from one team to five teams, it has risen from social rugby

It's not often you have the opportunity to enjoy a Rugby

Bob Skinstad, alongside you in the rugby box! Seartec
hosted clients and friends at the recent WorldXV Test
at Newlands and it was great to share Bob's insight
and perspective of the game!
In a run up to Bob's upcoming commentary of the Welsh
Test Matches, the CMO of Seartec, enjoyed downtime
with clients and his impromptu Q&A sealed off a first
class experience in the Seartec Box.
