Publisher: Wes De Campos Editorial Staff: Joanne De Campos 2 [email protected] Greetings, I can’t believe it is June already. It appears that summer has finally arrived, the flowers are blooming, the lawn is turning green & the weather is getting much nicer. On May 1st, Joanne & I were at the State Convention in Bangor where the Augusta Lodge was chosen to host the State Convention for 2017. We were awarded this event by the State Elks Association. This is partially due to the success of our last convention in Augusta where we had great cooperation & support. Many Augusta Elks stepped up & showed Elkdom what we could do as a Lodge. So, congratulations goes to everyone for winning this Convention. On May 8th, there was a Ladies Night that was very successful, many people attended & all funds raised will be applied toward the Scholarship Fund for students who want to further their education. On May 15th, we had our Friday Night Supper, another great meal put out by Sandy Point Catering. After the meal, we had the Super Drawing to benefit the Travis Mills Foundation to help defray some of the cost of the Elk Summer Music Festival. Every had a good time & some lucky individuals walked out the door with a few more dollars in their pocket then what they started with. On May 27th, I had the privilege of speaking at the Augusta Elks Scholarship Dinner. It was great to see all the young people there who were looking forward to furthering their education. I remember myself sitting in that same audience years ago with my kids because they also won scholarships. Great job to this year’s Scholarship recipients, we at the Lodge wish them the best of luck. As the Exalted Ruler I will be recognizing an Elk who has demonstrated extraordinary service to the Lodge for any given month. I think I’ll call it Elk of the Month. This award will be given each month to a member, officer or employee of the Augusta Lodge. It is intended as a special acknowledgement for some work that they did for the month or just working in a day to day basis for the benefit of the Lodge. Someone who helps make this Lodge go from Good to Great. The recipient will have a “shout out” the newsletter & will receive an Elk of the Month pin. Look for new & different events that members have come up with. I look forward to seeing you at upcoming events. Fraternally yours, augustaelks.org 3 [email protected] From the Desk of the Lodge Secretary PROPOSITION FOR MEMBERSHIP The following applications have been read on the Lodge floor. A special Thank You to all Members, Friends and Family for setting up & tearing down the Banquet Room and all those that helped out by working at the 50/50 and Raffle stations. Co-Chairs for the Event were: Mike “Shu” Michaud, Terry Cloutier and Nanci Kittredge. EMCEE for the evening, Sara Bangs, did a phenomenal job! Terry Cloutier, 2015 Maine Mother of the Year was a great asset in organizing the Christopher & Banks Fashion Show and Entertainment. Our volunteer models, supported a wonderful cause while they sported their favorite outfits and styles. Mainely Harmony, along with Children's book Author's Roberta Barnes and Louise Dorr, added a special touch to the evening. Linda Weston brought Country Line Dancing to the Lodge while she instructed a few dances for a group of ladies that were brave enough to join her on stage! The Vendors surrounded the room with their product line and services. They were great to work with and appeared to be pleased with the attendance and outcome of the evening. Our Bartender, Linda Littlefield, added her special touches to the Banquet Room with fresh flowers from her garden and a door prize donation. Mike and Sue Breton prepared a delicious light sandwich buffet. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to everyone that helped and attended to support the Scholarship Fund! This evening would not have been possible without so many helping hands! The Augusta Elks Summer Music Festival On July 31 and August 1 to Benefit the Travis Mills Foundation. The event will be held on our softball field under a large tent and will feature local musicians. Rumor has it Elvis will be making an appearance on Saturday. We are reaching out to our membership for your help to make this event a huge success. Travis is a veteran who served in harms way and was the victim of a Roadside bomb. Travis suffered a devastating injury loosing the major parts of all four of his limbs. He is one of only a handful of people that suffered such a serious injury and survived. Travis is an amazing individual with more lust for life than a whole group of people, his enthusiasm and will to give back has spawned the Travis Mills Foundation. The foundation has just purchased the Arden Estate in Belgrade and will be used as a summer camp for wounded veterans from all over the country. They need to raise $1.7 million for renovations to make the estate complete and accessible for the many wounded warriors to come with their families and enjoy Maine at its best. We “the Elks” want to put our best foot forward to help raise money for such a worthy cause and need your help. We will need many volunteers to make this a success. We will need people to help set up, kitchen, security, bar, gate admissions, cashiers etc. If you are interested please contact Mike Michaud @ 441-2838 or Tim Rodrigue at tim.rodrigue@textechindustries or contact any of the Committee Chairs listed below. Remember Elks Care Elks Share and Elks Make a Difference! WANT TO HELP? We need lots of helping hands to make this a successful event. Parking - Dan Howlett Security - A.J.
