Job Description:
The Utility Worker primarily works in the outside
dock area of the AmeriGas facility. The employee is
responsible for unloading empty propane cylinders
from the truck(s), carrying them inside the dock area
to the refill station, and refilling the cylinders. The
filled cylinders are then moved back to the dock and
reloaded onto the truck(s) for the next day’s delivery.
Other duties may include cylinder repair and
maintenance, providing customer training on
dispensing propane, and handling refills for walk-in
customers. This employee may also fill in for a
Delivery Rep on an as-needed basis reading meters.

Operator and Maintenance Worker

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, does a variety of semi-skilled work in the construction,
installation and maintenance of the District’s water and wastewater facilities and services; general
house and grounds keeping; does related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Assists in excavating for services using hand and/or power tools, set
service saddles on mains and operates tapping equipment, runs service lines, set meter yokes,
meter and meter boxes; assists in the repair of broken water and sewer mains, services, fire
hydrants, etc.; learns location of valves, meters and manholes; reads water meters; rods, cleans and
flushes sewers; assists in testing backflow prevention devices; assists in pump and motor repairs
and maintenance. Other duties include general housekeeping of district facilities; perform water
activations and deactivations; works under a variety of weather conditions; able to be on-call during
off duty periods when directed by the General Manager and generally available to respond to night
and weekend emergencies; follow established District procedures, policies and safety requirements;
other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from high school or equivalent and
possession of a valid California driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is needed.
Successful applicant will be required to reside within the boundaries of the Chester Public Utility
District and will be required to pass a background check and pre-employment physical that includes
a drug test. Obtaining a D2 water certification and progress towards a Grade II wastewater
certification within the first year of employment is required. Backflow assembly tester certification is
desired. A one year probationary period will be utilized by the district.
COMPENSATION: Starting wage is $14.07 per hour with opportunity for a higher wage based on
certifications for water and waste water treatment. Chester Public Utility District provides for
medical and retirement benefits along with a deferred compensation match program.
