and more!
Lambton Shores… Naturally the best place to thrive!
The network of communities in Lambton Shores is comprised of expansive golden beaches,
popular campgrounds, parks, cycling, hiking and cross-country ski trails, indoor and outdoor
theatres, rural farms, and marketplaces. Historic towns and villages are a shopper’s delight, while
naturalists enjoy the area for the abundance of wildlife, birds and butterflies found in the Pinery
Provincial Park, at the Lambton Heritage Museum, Port Franks Wetlands and Forested Dunes, and
along the many nature trails.
Lambton Shores was incorporated in 2001 by the amalgamation of Arkona, Bosanquet, Forest,
Grand Bend and Thedford. We are home to approximately 11,000 full-time residents and we have
an influx of campers and cottagers who call Lambton Shores their home away from home.
We welcome you to use this guide so that you can embrace everything Lambton Shores has to
offer!

COMMUNITY USE OF SCHOOLS
Community Use of Schools is a Ministry of Education initiative which supports
access to school spaces outside of hours for local, non-profit community groups.
Locally, the Lambton Kent District School Board and the St. Clair Catholic District
School Board collaboratively endorse and encourage community use of their
schools in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton.
The two boards, working together under the umbrella of the Chatham-Kent
Lambton Administrative School Services (CLASS) Agreement, support the
Ministry’s vision to see schools as welcoming and inclusive places for
community members to come together, volunteer, build skills, access community
programs, and become physically active during non-school hours.
For more information on available spaces or for rentals, please call 1-877-330-4287 or visit

NON-EVALUATED - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
The Lambton Shores Communities in Bloom Committee has decided to continue with the program in
2015, however not as a competitor in any of the categories. The Committee felt that 2015 was the year
to re-group as a committee, re-connect with the community and build on the projects that they has
already started. They feel that in the long run, this will prepare the community to compete at a higher
level once again in the coming years. The following pages will outline the plans for 2015.
There will be no Judges Tour in 2015, but there will be a Magical Mystery Tour taking place on Sunday,
July 26 where people can take their own tour of Lambton Shores, similar to what the judges would
experience.
The Committee would also like to welcome anyone who is interested in joining the group to do so. They
meeting the first Monday of each month at the Thedford Village Complex at 7:00pm.
2015 THEME COLOURS
COMMUNITY HANGING BASKETS AND CONTAINERS INCLUDE:

The Committee encourages everyone to have fun with this year’s theme...the sky’s the limit! Let’s see
the bright, bold colours that will make our community stand out to those who come to visit us!
TRASH BASH EVENTS
This volunteer-driven community clean up will continue in 2015, with the first one scheduled during the
week of Earth Day (April 22).
The second Trash Bash will take place the week of July 20th to prepare the community for the
Magical Mystery Tour. Do your part and help keep Lambton Shores tidy!

COMMUNITIES IN BLOOM
GARDEN OF THE WEEK
2015 will see the return of the Garden of the Week. Residents and businesses are asked to spruce up
their properties for a chance to be selected as a Garden of the Week. Each community will have one
garden designated every week starting the week of June 15 and ending August 17. Initial winners will
be selected by the 2015 Communities in Bloom Committee, where subsequent winners will be selected
by the previous week’s winners.
All the winners will be entered into a draw for a Scott’s Miracle-Gro package (10 in total to be won),
which will take place at the end of the contest.
MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR OF LAMBTON SHORES
SAVE THE DATE
July 26th for the first Magical Mystery Tour of Lambton Shores. Locations are secret and will be
revealed when you pick up your passport at various Lambton Shores sites on the day. You will get a
first hand look at all the amazing things that Lambton Shores has to offer as you tour the whole
municipality visiting businesses, heritage sites and Lambton Shores facilities. Draws, prizes and
activities for kids will make this a day the whole family will want to be part of. It's in the planning stages
so watch the Lambton Shores website and local papers and signs for details as this exciting tour
unfolds.
CONTINUED PROJECTS
COMMUNITY GARDENS
Are you interested in planting a garden but you just don’t have space in your own
backyard? Community Gardens have sprouted up all over Lambton Shores, including
Forest, Arkona, Port Franks and Grand Bend. Plots are for sale in each of these
gardens. For more information, please contact Sonja at 226-237-4646.
THE NATIVE TREE PROJECT
Communities in Bloom encourages the resident of Lambton Shores to plant trees native
to this community. Each year, three feature trees are selected and discounts are offered
on these trees at Westland Greenhouses and Tree-Mendus Nurseries. This year’s trees
are the Sugar Maple, the White Spruce and the Ironwood. All this information, plus
planting tips can be found in the Native Tree brochure, distributed on line and in
municipal offices and facilities.
Two other exciting tree initiatives include
 5000 Trees Project which plans to foster and support native tree planting in Grand
Bend to help fight climate change.
 The "Re-Foresting of Forest" will use donated funds to help re-tree the Town of Forest, which has
seen a significant decrease in its tree canopy as a result of the Emerald Ash Borer and aging trees
HERITAGE PLAQUE PROGRAM
Do you have a heritage home or business in Lambton Shores? Plaque it and let everyone
know about our community’s strong history. Applications are available by emailing

GARBAGE & RECYCLING
IT’S EASY BEING GREEN
There are two simple methods for achieving
a greener community that everyone can
participate in. Composting and recycling can
help reduce your output of household waste,
thus reducing the amount of waste in landfills.
Lambton Shores sells two types of
composters, the garden composter and the
Green Cone Digester. Composting has many
benefits including production of soil
conditioner to improve the soil and the
plants growing in it. In addition, by
composting, you can reduce your household
garbage by one third to one half.
Garden composters are ideal for composting

making quilts for people in crisis situations? Don’t know how to
quilt? Don’t worry. We construct our quilts in stages. Then do

date, Caring quilters have donated over 800 quilts to Victims’
