VOLUME #2 NO. 39 DECEMBER 9, 2015 NO HIGHER CALLING A NEWSLETTER OF THE KENTUCKY TENNESSEE LITERATURE EVANGELISTS “There is no higher work than evangelistic canvassing, for it involves the performance of the highest moral duties. Those who engage in this work need always to be under the control of the Spirit of God.” - CM 12 COME UP HIGHER! Disciples of Jesus: As the year draws to a close, it is a very good time for us to review how we have performed for the past twelve months. Are we satisfied with what we have accomplished? This is an important question for our personal accomplishments, our spiritual growth, as well as our career and ministry. Since we are engaged in a highly important ministry, that of getting our truth filled publications to the masses, let us consider our responsibilities as Literature Evangelists. An encouraging thought is expressed on page 12 of The Colporteur Ministry, “If we only knew what is before us we would not be so dilatory in our work of the Lord.” Have you given all of your best effort in placing before the people as many books as possible in as many homes as possible? Are you more interested in the saving of souls or in earning a paycheck? God forbid that we should be content with seeing only 6 – 7 families per week… we should be looking at our weekly reports and seeking divine wisdom on how we can improve. A diligent L.E. will be placing books in 45% to 55% of the homes they canvass. This is an average based on 15 to 20 canvasses per week. Anyone can have a day where they give 5 canvasses and haven’t any sales, however, on a weekly basis this is rare. I remember a week where I had 0 sales on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday up until 7:30 p.m. I had given more than 12 canvasses… but from 7:30 to 9:30 the Lord blessed me with two sales totaling over $1,200.00. And then I was blank on Thursday again, up until about 8:00 p.m., but again, God came through and I had $1,800.00 by 10:00 p.m. In only 4 hours (out of 40+ hours) I was rewarded for my diligence with more than $3,000.00 for the week! What if at 7:30 Wednesday I had decided to call it a day and gone home? What if on Thursday I had again said, “Well, it’s 8:30 and still no sales, so I’ll call it a week.” My Bookman friends; it’s not only they who “endure to the end” who will be saved, this Bible text also applies to those of us in the Literature Ministry. I have often said, “There is no such thing as failure in the literature work, only those who fail to continue on…” “There is no higher work than evangelistic canvassing, for it involves the performance of the highest moral duties. Those who engage in this work need always to be under the control of the Spirit of God… The word of the Lord to His people is that we lift the standard higher and still higher. If we obey His voice, He will work with us, and our efforts will be crowned with success.” CM p. 12. Fellow Literature Evangelist, we must come up higher, higher still, for we have a mighty Canvasser by our side who knows no failure. Your calling and election are sure, both here and now, as well as for eternity. Let’s make plans to start 2016 with much prayer and resolute purpose to accomplish great things for the glory of the Master. More prayers, more GLOW, more Bible studies, more sales and more baptisms in our individual providentially assigned territory. Accepting the Higher Calling, Rocky “The church must give her attention to the canvassing work. This is one way in which she is to shine in the world. Then she will go forth, fair as the moon, clear as the sun and terrible as an army with banners.” RH Jan. 1, 1901 NO HIGHER CALLING Page 2 COME UP HIGHER - Part 2 An explanation for the benefit of our newest LE’s and a clarification for our seasoned LE’s as to what constitutes the guidelines for reporting canvasses, hours, advertising, and other important factors that make up our newsletter and make H.H.E.S. productive. What qualifies as a Canvass: To report a customer contact as “1 canvass” you must be face-to-face while giving the door approach, pre-canvass, canvass, quoting the price and asking for the order. Magabooks and small paperback books do not count. Telephone “canvasses” do not count! How to Count your Hours: Your hours do not begin when you leave your house, but rather when you knock on your first door or advertise your first business. (You haven’t arrived to work until you start working.) Likewise your work ends when you leave your last house and get into your car to start home. Office work (filling out your report & mailing in your contracts) doesn’t count as hours worked, but stamping your advertising and preparing your stands does. (On average this should only be a maximum of 4 hours.) Weekly Reporting: The KY/TN Conference expects, if they have voted to accept you as a Literature Evangelist to serve as a commissioned minister that you must turn in your weekly report on time. (If you are sick, you must send it in with a note as to why you didn’t work.) Failure to send in your report by noon on Wednesday will result in NO LEADS being mailed out until we receive your reports by the following Wednesday. Advertising Materials: Advertising material is allotted to each LE based on 10% of their sales. Mathematical Example: For $5,000 in sales the LE would be entitled to $500.00 in advertising material. (Postage would still be deducted from your personal account - on average it’s $15.00 per box) 1. NOTE: A box of the CCC Bible story prospectus - 40 books X $2.00 = $80.00 2. NOTE: The conference publishing department is also allotted by H.H.E.S. the advertising material based on total “Big Book” sales. Therefore, we must only allow materials to be given to LE’s according to their sales or we will not be able to supply the qualifying LE’s. Territory: Literature Evangelist territories are divided according to advertising potential. A metro area may be smaller geographically, due to heavily concentrated medical offices, while a rural area may be larger. An LE is permitted to work door-to-door anywhere, whether part-time or full-time. However, advertising territory will be revoked if an LE either isn’t reporting and/or isn’t selling. Star Points: The Star Point Reward System has been formulated & designed by experienced LE’s & Publishing Leaders to help motivate and guide Literature Evangelists to be productive in the most important aspects that will produce results. If this system is honestly followed, especially the first 6 on the list, leads will be prolific and sales will be inevitable. “Those who are doing this work from right motives are doing an important work of ministering. They will manifest no feeble, undecided character. Their minds are enlarging, their manners are becoming more refined. They should place no bounds to their improvement, but every day be better fitted to do good work.” CM 113.1. NO HIGHER CALLING Page 3 Regrettably, the Star Points Award Program has been suspended as of the end of October due to lack of sales. The Publishing Department does not have the money in our budget to continue it due to low sales. Our plan is to restart it again in January, 2016. Testimony Stories Don’t forget to send in your written testimonials of how God is moving in your Literature Ministry. Your submitted canvassing experiences will be featured in this newsletter and, for the time being, for each testimonial used you will receive a $50.00 check, courtesy of a generous lay donor who is a strong supporter of the Publishing Ministry.
