people were lined up for extra sales after registration closed!!
The overall organization and coordination of the event was in
the steady hands of Ron Thomas, who has been the energy
and vision for the event for the past 5 years. Thank you Ron,
for taking on the responsibility for P2O® and bringing it to
nearby Granville. P2O® has become a recognized quality
event for central Ohio. This event generated enough money to
donate a total of 12K to two charities, the Christopher Carlson
Foundation and the Humane Society of Delaware Co.
We’ve seen brisk reservations for the upcoming DE and PCA
Club Race events on September 11 - 14. The early sigh ups
point to a good and profitable event. Early publicity and a September date may be part of the reason. Lots of club members,
including Dave and Marsha Hayden and the Club Race committee and Chip Henderson and Bob Curley and the DE team,
are working hard to produce another smoothly-run event. As
always, these big club events are not possible without help
from our site volunteers. Ron Carr is coordinating this aspect
of the event, so if you have the time and are curious about this
event, please contact Ron at [email protected] so
he can find the perfect spot for you.
Byers Porsche was the event sponsor again and they brought
5 cars, including a Carrera GT, and plenty of staff to circulate
and answer questions. In addition, Byers Porsche produced a
video of the event that is on YouTube. It features several cameos of club people, along with lots of cars. Just go to our web
site (morpca.org) or our Facebook page and look for the Byers
Guide P2O® video. The event would not be possible without the
help of volunteers and the Village of Granville. I am already
looking forward to 2015 P2O®. The soon-to-be-renovated
Granville Inn could be ready by then!!
There are plenty of opportunities for fun with Porsches on the
horizon…. Hope to see you at one soon!

P2O™ 2014 Was a Great Success!!
King at Byers Porsche and for displaying
Graham’s ultra rare 2005 White Carrera GT,
which just missed out being a top 3 People’s
Choice award winner this year. It is a great
honor to have local racing legends Graham
and Bobby Rahal’s continued participation
in the show in Granville. They are always big
crowd pleasers!
The 10th Annual P2O™ July 25-27th
2014 was a great success. Thank you for
supporting this MORPCA event. The
Village of Granville, the Christopher
Carlson Foundation, the Humane Society,
and the other P2O™ supported mid Ohio
charities, along with the regional Porsche
Club of America hope you enjoyed the 10th
Annual 2014 P2O™ Casual Porsche Party in
Granville, OH. The weather was fantastic,
which is always a plus for any outdoor
car show. The exhibition parking was full,
with well over 300 cars registered and
parked, so lots to see and do. Byers Porsche,
along with other show vendors, and local
Granville businesses were all open for
business supporting attendee’s needs and the
viewing public was out in force admiring the
overwhelming variety of Porsches on display
under clear blue Ohio skies.
And last, but not least, a big Thank You!
to the Village Police and Services staff and
to all the P2O™ Volunteers coming from
the charities, from the Village of Granville
Chamber of Commerce, and from multiple
PCA regions, who all worked tirelessly on
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to make it a
fun and safe event! Working together they all
made it all happen again in 2014!
Watch this site (www.p20.us) in coming
weeks for more post show details along with
links to photos and videos, (both at ground
level and up in the trees) of the Saturday

High Performance Driving Education (HPDE) event
Sept 12th - 14th
at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
Come join fellow MORPCA members and other Advanced DE students (and PCA Club Racers) for
a 3-day weekend of safe fun at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Advanced-DE
is open to past students who have reached solo status in upper run groups of past MORPCA DE
events. Familiarity with Open-Passing is also required.
Historically, this Advanced DE fills up quickly, so do not delay in registering, as like our recent
April DE at Mid-Ohio which sold out, this event is likely to do the same.
Once again we will have pro driving instruction, provided by "Speedy" Dan Clarke
(www.danclarke.me). Dan is an ex-Champ car and Indy Lights racer and multiple time Cayman
Interseries Champion. As part of this Advanced DE, Dan will be providing a track walk, classroom
sessions, and video analysis. You can also arrange individual coaching sessions with him directly
which will occur during our on track driving sessions. Dan asks that if you are interested in
personal coaching that you contact him in advance of the event at [email protected] so
that you can discuss your and his expectations for your session.
Garages are wait listed for now for Advanced DE students, until Club Racer registration opens.
As with all MORPCA HPDE & CR events, registration can be accessed via the web, look on Club

Education at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on September 12 – 14, 2014. This will be a
three-day event with practice and fun races on Friday, sprint races on Saturday, and
enduros on Sunday.
Please note:
** This year we have moved the event from July to September. We promise to provide
great weather with plenty of sunshine!

for home!
** 24 hour track access, security, and camping like last year.
** Huge Saturday evening banquet, free to racers
An advanced three-day driver education (DE) will run in conjunction with the club race.
Drivers will run solo. However, our experienced and advanced instructors will be

Dan Clark, pro Indy Lite racer will provide coaching and track walk for DE drivers.
Again, this year, we will keep the track open 24 hours per day from 3:00 PM Thursday,
September 11th, until 7:00 PM Sunday, September 12th. You can camp free, work on
your car, or just relax. Please note, RV campers may be accessed a modest charge

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR PCA CLUB RACE
Mid-Ohio Race of Champions to be held
September 12-14th
Mark your calendars (either paper or digital)! Yes, it’s that time of year again, the 20th annual Porsche
Club Race at Mid-Ohio! This year, The Mid-Ohio Race of Champions will be held September 12th-14th.
Want to view a sports car race up close and personal? Want to do something at Mid-Ohio besides sit on
a lawn chair behind a spectator fence? Then working at the PCA Club Race event is just what you need!
Volunteers are needed in all areas (see the Club Race volunteer signup sheet elsewhere in this issue).
Lunch is provided daily for those volunteers working all day, as well as a cool Volunteer T shirt. A
Saturday evening dinner with the racers and race officials will be available to all volunteers, depending
upon the amount of time you volunteer: one day earns you a $10 discount, two days earns you a $20
discount, and three days will earn you a complimentary dinner!
There is a volunteer position to fit your schedule and talents. No experience is needed…………we will
train you, and provide morning doughnuts & coffee each day. No one has ever been turned down to
help out. This is a fun weekend and a chance to renew Porsche Club friendships and make new ones.
Also, if you are thinking about participating in the Club Race series (or Driver’s Education), this is a good
chance to meet experienced Club Race participants ( and DE instructors), see them in action, and find
out what is required.
Remember, without volunteers, the Club Race will not happen!

The Apex
to the finish line and he got me by half
a car length. As we pulled into pit lane I
was fuming. How did I let that happen?
I should have known better. Maybe I’m
losing my edge. It started like a normal fun day on the
race track. I was in a small gaggle of racers
steadily weaving my way to the front of the
pack. I could tell most of the drivers were
beginners by the way they missed the apexes
and applied too much brake for the turns.
As I approached pit out after a few laps,
another driver was just entering the course.
For a moment we locked eyes. I knew that
look. I’ve seen it a hundred times. The race
was on! After I unstrapped and climbed out of
my car I walked over and congratulated
the other driver on a really great race.
I smiled and shook his hand, but I was
steaming on the inside. My wife walked
up and she could tell I was not happy. As
we walked out of the pits, I turned and
said I wanted to go out again. She has
always supported my racing, so I knew
she would understand. Instead, she just
looked at me and said, “Honey, I love you,
but we are on vacation, this is a go-kart
course and that kid is like 12 years old.”
“Oh come on! He’s at least 14! I know I
can beat him! Just a few more laps!” “No.
Just get back in the Cayenne and let’s go
back to the condo. I want some wine and
you owe me a foot rub.” “Geez. Ok, but
can I come back tomorrow? Pleeeease?” He was younger than me but I could tell this
wasn’t his first time behind the wheel on the
race track. He immediately dove in and cut
off my line into the first turn. I went a little
wide to get a late apex and maybe pull an
over/under move. I had decent exit speed
but this kid was good. His rear end stepped
out a little, but he stayed in it and we went
side-by-side down a short straight into the
next turn. Fortunately, it was a left-hander
and I had the inside line. He tried to crowd
me, but I held fast and pushed him wide.
This let him know that I wasn’t going to give
in that easily. He had me a little on the top
end, but he slid the car around too much
which let me make up the difference in the
tight turns. So we proceeded to go at it for
the next several laps. Traffic was light, so it
was basically just the two of us duking it out.
Every time I thought I had him, he fought
his way back. On the final lap, I had the lead
as we went into the final turn. He made a
move to the inside, but I was expecting it
and moved to block. But his move was just a
feint. He jumped back to the outside, and as
I pushed wide at the exit, he dove inside and
grabbed the lead. It was a beautiful move
and I completely fell for it. I got back on
the gas but it was too late. It was a drag race
