Everyone loved the shirt design, and people were lined up for extra sales after registration closed!! The overall organization and coordination of the event was in the steady hands of Ron Thomas, who has been the energy and vision for the event for the past 5 years. Thank you Ron, for taking on the responsibility for P2O® and bringing it to nearby Granville. P2O® has become a recognized quality event for central Ohio. This event generated enough money to donate a total of 12K to two charities, the Christopher Carlson Foundation and the Humane Society of Delaware Co. We’ve seen brisk reservations for the upcoming DE and PCA Club Race events on September 11 - 14. The early sigh ups point to a good and profitable event. Early publicity and a September date may be part of the reason. Lots of club members, including Dave and Marsha Hayden and the Club Race committee and Chip Henderson and Bob Curley and the DE team, are working hard to produce another smoothly-run event. As always, these big club events are not possible without help from our site volunteers. Ron Carr is coordinating this aspect of the event, so if you have the time and are curious about this event, please contact Ron at [email protected] so he can find the perfect spot for you. Byers Porsche was the event sponsor again and they brought 5 cars, including a Carrera GT, and plenty of staff to circulate and answer questions. In addition, Byers Porsche produced a video of the event that is on YouTube. It features several cameos of club people, along with lots of cars. Just go to our web site (morpca.org) or our Facebook page and look for the Byers Guide P2O® video. The event would not be possible without the help of volunteers and the Village of Granville. I am already looking forward to 2015 P2O®. The soon-to-be-renovated Granville Inn could be ready by then!! There are plenty of opportunities for fun with Porsches on the horizon…. Hope to see you at one soon! As part of this Advanced DE, Dan will be providing a track walk, classroom sessions, and video analysis. You can also arrange individual coaching sessions with him directly which will occur during our on track driving sessions. Dan asks that if you are interested in personal coaching that you contact him in advance of the event at [email protected] so that you can discuss your and his expectations for your session. Garages are wait listed for now for Advanced DE students, until Club Racer registration opens. As we pulled into pit lane I was fuming. How did I let that happen? I should have known better. Maybe I’m losing my edge. It started like a normal fun day on the race track. I was in a small gaggle of racers steadily weaving my way to the front of the pack. I could tell most of the drivers were beginners by the way they missed the apexes and applied too much brake for the turns. As I approached pit out after a few laps, another driver was just entering the course. For a moment we locked eyes. I knew that look. I’ve seen it a hundred times. The race was on! After I unstrapped and climbed out of my car I walked over and congratulated the other driver on a really great race. I smiled and shook his hand, but I was steaming on the inside. My wife walked up and she could tell I was not happy. As we walked out of the pits, I turned and said I wanted to go out again. She has always supported my racing, so I knew she would understand. Instead, she just looked at me and said, “Honey, I love you, but we are on vacation, this is a go-kart course and that kid is like 12 years old.” “Oh come on! He’s at least 14! I know I can beat him! Just a few more laps!” “No. Just get back in the Cayenne and let’s go back to the condo. I want some wine and you owe me a foot rub.” “Geez. Ok, but can I come back tomorrow? Pleeeease?” He was younger than me but I could tell this wasn’t his first time behind the wheel on the race track. He immediately dove in and cut off my line into the first turn. I went a little wide to get a late apex and maybe pull an over/under move. I had decent exit speed but this kid was good. His rear end stepped out a little, but he stayed in it and we went side-by-side down a short straight into the next turn. Fortunately, it was a left-hander and I had the inside line. He tried to crowd me, but I held fast and pushed him wide. This let him know that I wasn’t going to give in that easily. He had me a little on the top end, but he slid the car around too much which let me make up the difference in the tight turns. So we proceeded to go at it for the next several laps. Traffic was light, so it was basically just the two of us duking it out. Every time I thought I had him, he fought his way back. On the final lap, I had the lead as we went into the final turn. He made a move to the inside, but I was expecting it and moved to block. But his move was just a feint. He jumped back to the outside, and as I pushed wide at the exit, he dove inside and grabbed the lead. It was a beautiful move and I completely fell for it. I got back on the gas but it was too late. It was a drag race 15 Around The Zone By Michael Soriano Zone 4 Representative 16 August 2014 2014 Arthritis Show By Mike Buccicone Pre-1998 911 A record turnout of Porsches July 12 for the Dublin Arthritis Show in Dublin, OH was a spectacular sight to see along Metro Center Drive this year celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911.
