KEYNOTES PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA KEYSTONE REGION July 2014 DRIVE AND DINE to Susquehanna Valley Country Club Sunday, July 13th Summer is here and it's time to gather the Porsches for a scenic drive through the spectacular countryside of Central Pennsylvania. Dick and Nan Meyer will be your caravan leaders from the State College area. Meet up with them and your fellow Keystoners behind the McDonald's at Nittany Mall at 10:00 AM. From there, the Meyers' will lead you on a beautiful drive to Susquehanna Valley Country Club in Hummels Wharf, PA. We'll start the afternoon, around 12:00 noon, with snacks and a cash bar outside overlooking the Susquehanna Valley. Then we'll continue into the Club for a buffet luncheon. The cost for the luncheon is $20.00 per person which Gwen Cornell will collect that day. There will be special parking for our Porsches, so shine them up and we will give the country club members a show. Our Zone 2 Rep, Cheryl Taylor, will be attending this event as her annual visit to our region. Don't miss this opportunity to meet her. She works hard for us, so let's make it a good turn out in her honor. The club's address is One Country Club Rd. and the entrance is on Mill Rd. in Hummels Wharf. Come south on Rt.15 and turn right onto Mill Rd. immediately after Dairy Queen and the golf course. If you're planning on attending, please email Gwen at [email protected] by July 6th. Last year we had seventeen cars. Let's see if we can do even better this year. See you on the 13th. CARS AND COFFEE at RESTLESS OAKS - SATURDAY, JUNE 7th The weather couldn't have been any better for this past Saturday's Cars and Coffee. What a perfect day to get your P-car out of the garage and drive the backroads to McElhattan's Restless Oaks Restaurant. As usual, we all had a great breakfast and sat around afterwards chatting about past Porsche stories and future travel plans. Again, John Voda from Wyalusing wins the prize for coming the farthest. McCardles' were in from Lewistown and the Durrwachters' from Laporte - also not short trips. Tom Fitzpatrick, the Meyers', Stucks', Sears' , Bob Fredericksen, the Emerys' and the Cornells' finished out our group. It was great to see everyone. Till next time....... CARRERA 4'UM -Fred Sears Membership: Missed the anniversary year of one of our long term members. Bill Bowman joined in 1988 and should have been listed as celebrating 26years of PCA membership. Sorry about that Bill. They commented about modifying their driving techniques based on the discussion and how much smoother th ey now felt on the curves. Great to hear. Have encountered an interesting observation regarding new VW/Audi/Porsche tow vehicles such as the Cayenne. Apparently those equipped with the towing package are not shipped with the receptacle to plug in the trailer wiring. If you take delivery assure the dealer has installed the receptacle otherwise you could be in for a shock when you go to use the trailer. It's about a 5 minute job to unbolt the blank plate over the wiring harness termination, couple the receptacle to the harness, and bolt in the receptacle. If you have the receptacle to match the harness termination; my spare receptacles require hard wiring. My brother-in-law was not a happy camper since he was planning to head to California in a few days for Parade. FROM BEHIND THE WHEEL -Bob Cornell I know it's summer. How can I tell? One way is that Gwen and I seem to be on the road every weekend. We've just returned from Baltimore, New York City, and Pinehurst, NC. Now it's time for some serious car stuff. Our recent detailing and safety clinic at Black Walnut was a great success and the June cars and coffee was well attended as always. Many thanks to Eric Dash and Fred Sears for the tech session. Also, thanks to Gwen for another fun cars and coffee. Coming up we have the Six Hours at the Glen and the Pittsburgh Vintage races in (where else?) Pittsburgh. Our July event is a Drive and Dine at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club in Hummels Wharf, PA. Please check out the details in this issue of Keynotes. This event is important to me for a couple of reasons. One is that Gwen and I belong to this club and we want to show off a little. There's nothing like 20 Porsches lined up to show them what the really cool people are doing. Secondly, our new Zone Rep, Cheryl Taylor, will be attending. She's a really nice lady who works very hard for us. Please take this opportunity to meet her and make her feel welcome. I think that's about it for this issue of Keynotes. See you on the 13th. And remember: It's not just about the cars-it's about the people!
