introduction
B
Here comes
the sun...
razilian footwear industry has
been growing continuously and has
already become one of the most
recognizable representatives of
the Brazilian identity abroad – if in 2000
the shoes were exported to 99 countries,
nowadays, they are shipped to 150 different
countries. The unique designs reflect not
only our cultural pluralism but also all the
major global trends in fashion. Brazilian
shoes feature sinuous shapes, different materials, handmade details and a vibrant color
palette, standing out in the highly competitive international market.
This revolution has been possible
thanks to the Brazilian Footwear project,
a program aimed at promoting Brazilian
shoes exports, developed by the Brazilian
Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) in partnership with the Brazilian
Trade and Investment Promotion Agency
(Apex-Brasil). The project also benefits
from the valuable collaboration with public
relations agencies located in countries
like the United States, Colombia, Russia,
Germany, Italy and China, that have been
working on key initiatives to boost the industry’s visibility around the globe, at the
right venues, events and media. In this issue,
we interview the public relations consultants who have been working to improve
the image of the Brazilian footwear industry abroad, to get an inside look at how this
job is done (page 6).
And last but not least, the upcoming
trends – which are many – for next summer,
are presented in the editorials Queen of the
tribe, with an ethnic vibe and statement
tie-up sandals; and Straitjacket, featuring
flatforms and sandals with wide straps,
paired with an updated version of classic
tailored pieces, shaped for a slightly loose
fit, adding movement and playfulness to
structured looks with architectural lines.
In this issue, we also feature many Shops
pages, where you can see how the Brazilian
footwear industry has something for every
taste and style, from navy to rustic, sporty to
classy, the right shoes for every occasion. We
bring you this season’s best creations, with
multicultural influences combined with the
world’s hottest trends. Pick your favorites
and start working on your summer’s wish list!
