More than 522 dogs rescued to date
March 2008
Hoping for a Home

Sandi/F/6/WI Champagne

partner. Friendly, sweet, and
looking for a snuggle bunny.

sofa, burping, and snacks,
seeking M or F with like
interests. Warm weather a plus.
Romeo/M/1/IN Hairy lover: I’m
chocolate/white, 7 pounds, with a
Maltese face and the most beautiful
set of teefies my foster mom has
ever seen. I dash through the snow
and sleep curled next to her!

energy! Love boy! ZAM! Whoosh!
Dexter003/M/5/IL Cute as a

looking toward a great home.
Wiley/M/10 months/IL Energetic
boy willing to keep the couch in
place, good at stairs, and perfect
at sleeping with children.
Bubbles/F/8/WI Booty shakin’ girl
will cheerlead for you. I’m a
substantial sized female, friendly,
and light-hearted.
Rumba/4/M/IL Sweet, toy-addicted
male looking for a playmate. Likes:
food and friends Dislikes: being told I
snore (It’s a lie!).
I hope everyone appreciates how these lives get saved … they get saved because of people who network, transport, foster, recruit their
friends and adopters to foster, sew, create beautiful quilts, design calendars, do Petco, put dogs on Petfinder, write articles for the
website and newsletter, pay our bills, schlep newsletters to vet clinics and grooming shops, talk to coworkers about rescue, handle dog
records, fundraise, pray … they are saved because of you.
Every dog in this rescue has every volunteer in this rescue standing behind him or her. And you. We couldn’t do it without you. They
wouldn’t be alive without you. When you receive your newsletter, look carefully at each of the little faces. You transported, sewed,
contributed, thought of us, spoke to a friend or a vet. You prayed for our dogs. You saved them. We are saving lives and changing
lives, one dog (and one person) at a time.~ Bekye Walker
Angels: Thanks to you for your generosity with time, funds, understanding, and / or special projects:
Odean for always being there for the dogs
and ever watchful and proactive for those
in need
Kelly Wakefield in MI who worked so hard
to get Katie into rescue, fostered Katie for a
week, updated her shots, and arranged for
Katie’s ride to the transport hook up, on the
way to us.
Bonnie, vet tech, for extraordinary help
with friends in need.
YOU! Did you know

Dr. Tod Beckett and his staff at VCA Mill
Run Animal Hospital, Hilliard, OH: kindness
and understanding, generosity toward us
and our dogs.
Cynthia Adam, who spent more than 5
hours, putting 290 miles on her car, to take
the Frozen Tzu of OH, our SharonH, and
Katie Love to the VCA vet clinic – and then
out to lunch.
Our members who drive the highways to bring our dogs to safety: Cindy, June, Dan, Mick, John, Bekye, Patsy, Kay, Jim, Terrie,
GinaT, Leann.

Tango/M/5/WI Hi! My name is
Tango and I'm wonderful, very
gentle, charismatic, and playful.
I'm a little reserved at times
but once I bond I am very loyal. I
enjoy the company of other dogs,
have great manners, and am
nearly potty trained. I'm fairly laid
back, but I do enjoy adventure and
love being active, jumping through
snow, running, or going on a long
walks. I'm searching for a home of
my own where I can do fun things
and have my own understanding
person to love wholeheartedly.
Bertha/F/6/WI Hi! My name is
Bertha and I'm a 6yr old, 10lb,
spayed female. The first thing
you'll notice is that my tail is
always wagging. I'm very sweet,
well mannered and very inquisitive.
Housetraining was a piece of cake
and my foster mom says I'm a
quick learner. I can be shy until I
get to know someone but love
getting and giving affection. I'm
just waiting to find a gentle
person to call my own who won't
leave me home for too long each
day.
Sashi/F/2/IL
Girl with packed bag and leash on
the ready, ready to move
…Mooove…got that? I’m on the
MOOVE – call me, honey.
I’m a tall-legged chorus girl who
wants to be the star of your show.
I’m bouncy, happy, and eager for
walks. Great with people and
dogs, anxious to be out and about.
Jackson/M/WI
6 year-old male seeking TLC. I am
a Puppy Mill survivor with a gentle,
sweet and playful personality. I
am hoping to find someone who
can accept me with my special
needs to cuddle and snuggle with
to my heart’s content. If you’re
looking for someone to share your
life with, I’m your man. Love,
Jackson. WI
Ted/M/2/IL
The haystack haircut kept me
warm when I was a stray on the
streets. Lookin’ to lose the “do”
and find some friends. Talk to you
later.
Meeka/F/6 months/WI
I’m Princess Meeka, or at least I
think so. I’m prim and proper
except whenI run. I love to run. I
love to give kisses. I love to be
pampered. I’m used to cats and
other dogs. What more could you
ask? Call me!!!
Otis/M/5 months/WI
I am full of the dickens, love to
play, and I’m very smart. My
foster mom says that’s another
word for nosy. I’ll make you laugh
and smile with all my antics and
expressions. I’m used to other
dogs and cats. Check me out!!!
NewBoy/young/IL
Just coming into rescue, the boy in
the leash, meeting other dogs in
his foster home.
Zac/M/IL This little shelter boy is
heartworm positive because no
one cared enough to give him an
inexpensive pill. Now, he needs
heartworm treatment.
Rex/M/3/IL
I’m sweet and loving; all I want is
to cuddle.
Sugar/F/5/WI
The baby behind me got so
important that my parents are
throwing me out of the house.
Loving, housetrained, cuddly: none
of it helped.
Brandy/F/5/WI Former mill girl
looking for a home where I will be
safe in your affections.
Rebel/M/2/WI
Gotta spring in my step and a
smile on my face. Baby gates are
only something to get past. Outta
a dog mill and rushing into your
heart. 13# of adorable: me.
Rudy/M/6 months old/MI
Poodle/Bichon mix. One of six
dogs found in abandoned in a barn
at an Amish puppy mill. The
temperature was 3 below. I’m shy
and scared.
BabyDoll/F/---/WI
Housebroken, affectionate and
friendly. Will nose your hand and
lie on my back to remind you of
the crucial nature of belly rubs in
my universe.
Nala / F / 2 / WI
Sophie/F/8/IL
I want to root for your team.
Creamy colored girl loves balls,
being outside, being admired and
admiring you. I’m housetrained
and loyal. Be my sugar, and give
me a ring.
Patch/M/8/WI Former bad guy
looking for love with someone who
understands reformed bad guys.
Prison was okay, but I'm looking
for a residence a bit more homey.
Answer this ad to NBSTR.org and
just ask for Patch.
Danny/M/10/WI
Expert as sniffing out love, liver
sausage, cheez balls, and walks.
DannyBoy I am, and your
DannyBoy I’d like to be – in time
for St Paddy’s Day. It’s the lilt of
the shamrock to my nose!
Angel/M/2/MN
My name is Angel, and I want to
kiss you all day. I'm two years
old, but I still act like a clumsy
puppy. If you want puppy playing
and puppy-kisses (not puppyhousetraining), then I'm your guy!
Jenny/F/ /WI Black and white
girl, came in thin but gaining,
expert at tail wagging. Loves to
“come here” and get petted.
Enjoys toys. At last count I was
hatching 4 in my bed. If you have
love and squeaky baubles to give,
call my number.
Tex/M/5/WI You – me – guy-type
stuff. Football, loafing on the
couch, a training jog. Snacks on
the couch. Crumbs in bed? Not
when I’m there with you – they’re
all taken care of.
Love you, babe.
Ike/M/3/IN
I like IKE. Sweet, loyal, allAmerican, and mannerly. Save me
from the crazy puppy in my foster
home – take me home with you!
Penny/F/10/ WI
Blonde female Shih Tzu seeking
fun-loving family. Enjoys going
for walks and riding in the car.
Squeaky toys bring out my
playfulness. Fond of belly rubs
and treats!
Precious/F/3/WI I'll fill your lap
with love. I think I'm considered a
"designer" woman because of my
varied pedigree, but darned if I
have any idea what was in my
daddy's woodpile. Just give me a
calm, quiet home where I can
lounge at my leisure.
Tess/F/2/IL Gorgeous full-size
female seeks appreciative
affection, and professional bellyrubber. Large collection of fuzzy
toys a plus if you want to win my
heart.
Ralphie/M/6/IL
I’m your compact size honey at 10
lbs. Not fussy about food or treats
and really enjoy going for walks.
Ask for Ralphie.
Loretta/F/11/MN
I came into rescue from a shelter;
they found me stuck in a snow
bank, and Wisconsin snow in
January is colder than a brass
toilet seat on the shady side of an
iceberg. Lookin’ for a warm
blanket, a hot meal, and a pair of
arms to snuggle into.
Chelsea/F/9/WI
Looking for a gal who's no
pushover? How about someone
who likes to show you how to have
a good time---as I romp in the
open air? I'll show you my pretty
white paws. And who says tall,
dark, handsome is only for the
guys? Check out my lovely locks!
Bailey8 / M / /WI
Ever hear the song about my dad
Bill? “Won’t you come home, Billy
Bailey?” Help me sing to the tune in
your heart, and come patting across
your threshold.
Domino/M/13/WI Sweet old
man looking for a new pack to
love. I love belly rubs, treats
and all other dogs. I especially
love to care for young pups
and females. If you have babes
that need to be cared for, please
contact my foster mom Carol.
Ruby/F/9/IN Abused by her
former owner’s boyfriend, this girl
multilated her own tail to the point
it had to be surgically removed.
Trying to trust, looking for love.
Cheyanna/F/WI
Cute enough you’d think I was a
plush dog, but when you saw my
bounce and my smile, you’d know
that I am a bouncy girl.
Nico/F/3/IL
Adam/M/7/IL
Quiet mature male looking for
someone to exchange loving
glances with. Willing to bond
over a liversausage sandwich,
but will settle for dog treats.
100 plus member rescue group
welcomes new volunteers
interested in helping dogs, road
trips (with dogs), eating chocolate
(to pay vet bills for dogs), and
sharing love and laughter (as well
as the heartache and hope that
comes with rescue). Interested?

KatieLove/F/senior/WI
I came into rescue through the
love of transporters and foster
homes. Small, blonde, and loving
– I enjoy naps and being cuddled
up with you.
Leo/M/2/WI
I’ve frozen my tush outside for 2
years of OH winters (and a very
cute tush it is). Agile, smart,
waggy and cream-tan – you
couldn’t ask for more.
Mia/F/2/WI
I am not a cuddler – I am
SUPERGLUE. Waggy, loving,
smart, and close to you all the
way, doll-baby.
Jasper/M/2/WI
I look like Leo they say, and until
I recover from the bad haircut
(see me in the transport story
below) I’m wearing a cap.
;)
Prince Charming/M/AR
Recovering from heartworm
treatment and a lifetime of
abuse.
Davie/M/6/IL Single male hunting
for adult family with large hearts
and refrigerator privileges.
Cody/M/15/IL
Look into my eyes…you love
me…you LOVE me…and I love you.
Bruno/M/7/IL
Long-suffering boy seeks funtype girl. Object: love.
Cricket/M/4/NE Just like crickets
in Chinese stories are lucky, so am
I. Out of a shelter, a tail like a
plume of grey smoke, love car
rides and sitting next to you.
Housetrained. I “sit” for a treat.
Toby/M
Cinders/F/10/WI
Shy girl, wants to stop being a
wallflower and bask in the sun of
your affection. I’m built for
snuggling. I’m tired of being
Cinders; I want to be Cinderella.
Maya/F/6/ WI Cute, loyal, and a
great kisser. I love other dogs,
and have learned to sit. A
quieter home that likes to play
and take walks with me would be
ideal.
Because they need us...we need you
All contributions are tax deductible.
New Beginnings depends on the generosity of our foster families, our members, and our donors. Without funds and foster homes, we
cannot rescue dogs. The average veterinary cost for one of our dogs is $425. The average adoption donation is $250. How do we leap
the gap? Love, faith, donors, and belief that what we do makes the world a better place, not only for the dogs, but for the people they
love.
How much do people give? Donations have ranged from the dollar at Petco to more than several thousand. People give to the dogs from
their hearts, and since we work from our hearts, that is what is important. You may not foster, you may not transport, you may not be
adopting a dog from us; by sending your thoughts and donations, know that you also are part of our organization and our mission.
Help our mission to rescue those who need us.
All our members are volunteers, so 100% of your contribution goes to the dogs.
And, since we are a charitable organization, donations are tax deductible. You will receive a letter acknowledging your donation.
Yes, I want to help the dogs. Enclosed is my tax-deductible donation.

Thank you.
Who we are
Miss Holly Editor asked Cassie and Macy Sorenson and Amanda, Blondie and Josie Cutsforth what they think about fostering. Misses
Cassie, Macy, and Blondie are Shih Tzu, Miss Josie is Westie through and through and Amanda is what is politely called a "mixed breed"
(golden retriever and sheltie may have had something to do with it). Here is what they have to say:
Cassie:
What can a queen of the royal blood do when one’s castle is invaded by crude barbarians? One can only hold one’s head high and
pretend they are invisible until eventually they go away. The sooner the better. I don’t understand why we don’t have better security
around here that these creatures keep getting in the door.
Macy:
There goes mom again loading those crates in the car and leaving me, the princess, here at home. I should be the one riding in the royal
chariot. Suppose she’s bringing home another one of them. Eh, they come, they go. If they last a week, I’ll try getting acquainted. Less
than that and I can’t be bothered.
Blondie:
We like the little foster dogs. We like talking to them and hearing their stories. Sometimes their stories are so sad. But we tell them
everything will be good now. They’ll have good food and a warm bed, toys and car rides and walks in the park. Some of them remember
those things but lots of them don’t even know what those are. Josie and I didn’t know either when we first came here. We were scared
too. Sometimes Josie is still kind of scared of new people. But I’m not! I like everybody, I like meeting new dog AND new human
everybodies. Well, Maude the cat scares me a little. She is so….. so CAT!
Josie:
Except we don’t like the teenage boy foster dogs, sniffing our butts and making rude suggestions to respectable middle-aged ladies.
They’re usually only here a couple days though. Then they send them to cowboy ranches in Texas or something. Wherever Texas is.
Amanda:
Ditto Josie on the teenagers. Not that they sniff ME more than once! Some of those little punks call me the Red Witch behind my back.
Like I care. As long as they say "yes Ma’am" to my face I don’t care what they call me behind my back. In case you need to address me
yourself, however, my actual title is The Red Queen, thank you very much. And my job is to enforce the pack rules fairly but firmly.
Our sister Eileen spent the weekend. She is a great Packers fan.
Sitting beside Blondie on the sofa:
Eileen: Blondie are you going to watch the Super Bowl next weekend?
Blondie: They won't let me. And I have a lot of money riding on it too.
Carol: Blondie, you don't have any money.
Blondie: I DON'T? Where is my money?
Amanda: You don't need money. You point, they write the check.
Blondie: But the poodle down the street wants a cash bet!
Josie: Do they have food at this Super Ball thingie?
Amanda: Super BOWL you dope.
Josie: So is there food?
Eileen: Oh yes, brats & hot dogs & beer & peanuts…..
Josie: Great! Wake me up Ball Day!
Amanda: BOWL you dummy!
Blondie: I still can't believe I don't have any money!
- as overheard by Cheryl
Blondie says she doesn't mind if you really want to use this in the newsletter. She is still looking for her check book or her coffee can full
of money. Amanda is still rolling her eyes at Blondie. Josie is still wondering when the brats will show up. Maude the cat is still writing
personals ads to adopt out all the dogs to some other home. It helps them pass the winter. ~ CherylC
Liza
Her skin is so much better & the hair is coming back on the bald spots, even her tail!
(which she still hates to have touched!)
We have a routine, when it's time to go to bed we race up the stairs, she gets excited and
circles down the hall, gets into the bedroom & circles while waiting for me to put her on
the bed, once I do she prances and does little leaps around the bed (king size), she play
bows to me & I have to pretend like I'm going to get her feet, we wrestle a little bit &
then once I'm under the covers I pat the bed & she comes up to my shoulder & curls up
to sleep. My vet is very pleased with how well she's doing and the vet techs love her! ~
Cindy Johnson

FYI, I wanted to share with you all what New Beginnings Shih Tzu & Friends Rescue does, because I think you deserve to know the scope
of what's happening.
We have twenty-seven (that's 27) intakes the weekend of February 16th. This number includes the 3 Shih Tzu coming from Akron, and
Katie coming from Michigan. Fifteen (15) of our pending intakes are coming from a puppy mill in the South.
Others arriving are coming from shelters or OTI's. Since its inception in July of 2005, our intake total is 522 rescues saved - the largest
percentage of those successfully & happily rehomed in awesome adoptive homes. We do NOT sit on our butts, for sure! We're a busy
rescue in the states of WI, MN, IL, IN, OH, NE, MO, AR, ND, MI.
While we are a Shih Tzu & Friends rescue, that does not focus on the pristine only adoptable rescues, we are nonetheless limited as to
how far we can spread our wings to other breeds, but we do our very darned best!
I am sharing this with you all because I feel it is important to understand just how far New Beginnings will go to save lives. I can tell you
for sure that we depend heavily on a Power Greater than ourselves to help us help them! Love and blessings to all, with sincere thanks!
SharonH
The Sunshine Kids
They’re older, they’re wonderful, and they’re in rescue in a dog world where it sometimes seems that everyone wants a cute, young,
female puppy. Take a look at our sunshine kids, because any of them would bring life and sunshine into your heart.
Bring one of these seniors home to have love in your life.
Ivy/F/9/MN
Soft, warm, adorable: I can be all those things. I can
also race you around the dining room table for the Shih
Tzu 500. I’m a really talented girl.
Griffin/M/10 / IN Cananova…VERY handsome with Rod Stewart
haircut 11 yr. old senior blind boy. HOUSETRAINED: I go to the door
and bark when I need to go out. I’m savvy with negotiating the
house, even though people say I am blind – but not so blind I can’t
snuggle up to cute females.
Love…luuv wrestling with girls. Love flirting and kissing ears. I’m
sweet on Annie, who’s been sleeping with me lately, but my foster
mom says I can also be a little two-timer as well since she saw me
was kissing on Lucy too:))) I tried to date Sassy too, but the little
Maltese with the attitude gave me a what for and put me in my
place, so I haven’t tried to hook up with her since then. So, if
anyone is looking for a handsome little housetrained Casanova....I’m
your man! IN
Who we are: fostering, Part I
LaVina here - With the number of pets I already have, I only foster occasionally. It seems like the pet picks me and then I say I
will foster. Older and/or special needs seem to be what finds me or one that has a medical problem that surfaces when they
arrive. Ones that are "mental basket cases" who need time to hang out without pressure to "do something" seem to be what I
pick. The sex doesn't matter; just have to get along with other critters.
ErinnP: I just want boys - my Tabitha cannot tolerate a female dog in her home. We had Muffin overnight and Tabby pouted the
whole time. So far, I've only had challenged boys, 3 with health issues and 2 with biting issues. I wouldn't mind an easier one
some time! Whenever I have a free spot (or one coming), I sign up for the next boy to come along. The hardest time we've had
was when one dog needed different food from the others. We free-feed and the dogs didn't like the change to scheduled meals.
I'm Lisa, and guess I've never picked a particular dog to foster - sometimes it feels like they picked me. It's usually about a week
or two after I say, "I'm taking a break from fostering," or "I cannot take a foster right now..." and boom, I have a foster. They
just happen along. I've had a good variety of age, size, gender, health, and breed (or non-breed).
I guess if I had to make a choice, I would say that my heart wants to foster the seniors and the down-and-outs....dogs who are
overlooked in shelters, who are truly in danger of euthanization because of age or illness - dogs that can stay a while.
But...I'm glad I've never limited myself. I've had some great experiences and learned a lot with each dog. I also think there's very
little better in the world of rescue than placing a dog in a fine, fine home that suits all their needs, and getting updates from the
homes even years after the placements. I've been very lucky that way.
Where do your dogs come from?
The Humane Society of Greater Akron just called to me say they confiscated 4 Shih Tzus from a yard last night where they were tied up
and left outside in this cold weather. Frozen water, no shelter and completely matted. There are 2 girls and 2 boys, all younger adults.
They have received their vaccinations but not rabies. They are not altered.
The Humane Society of Greater Akron is a facility in a bank barn set up for approx. 150 animals. Currently they are housing 400. These
small dogs are quite upset and not doing well there. Not to mention this facility is VERY COLD.
I'm asking for some help with these dogs. If anyone could possibly take 1 or several of these dogs, I'd be glad to help transport.
Please email me privately and I can send photos and some more information as I get it.
The Humane Society would like them out ASAP as they are unfortunately getting more and more neglect cases coming in steadily!
Thank you!
I’m heading towards Columbus on Saturday, actually going to be closer to Mansfield to meet Cynthia. Perhaps Cynthia could transport
them down to Sharon? The black one is a Tzu mix, the last pic shows the 2 cream color Tzus. I can get them washed and clipped before
Saturday. Let me know.

Every year, 6 million to 8 million dogs and cats enter U.S. shelters and 3 million to 4 million are euthanized because there are not enough
homes for them.
I know we have dogs coming in from all over ... but this is one of those situations that calls out to us to extend ourselves, if we can, to
help these poor Shih Tzus. 2 males, 2 females ... "younger adults" ... left outside to freeze ... need help ASAP. Janet will send pictures
which I will post in a separate email. Thanks! Bekye
Whatever we need to do ... tell me how I can help, Bekye. If Janet can pull them and get them to me pending transport to foster care,
I can have them vetted and boarded at my vet if that's what it takes ... please tell me, Ladies, what I can do to help ... what a nightmare
for these precious dogs! Let's go ~ SharonH
Just put out an emergency update ... Janet, do you have pictures? They didn't come through. Pictures always help. THANKS!!! ~ Bekye
Ok, here are pics. Two are beige and one is black.. Cynthia is meeting me in Mansfield on Saturday to bring me an OTI 15 year old and
is more then happy to bring these down to Sharon. Let me know what you want me to do. ~ Janet
I've got two of the four spoken for so let's go for it. I'm sure I can guilt out two more foster spaces from someone ... !! Sharon,
probably the best bet is for you to plan to vet ASAP, which will buy us some time in coordinating the transport east. Janet / Joan /
Cynthia ... Sharon is my OH Coordinator (and actually my entire OH team!) so whatever y'all can work out is fabulous and we'll take it
from there. Hugs to all ~ Bekye
Where are they going? Wisconsin? So, just for the record. There are 2 buff Tzus, 1
black Tzu mix but the 4th doesn't look like any of them. See attached. I want to be
sure before I get them and transport them to Sharon. ~ Janet
I will take one. ~ Laura
We will take one of the males. Barb thinks the black one is the cutest....so if it’s
male.....~ Daniel
I will foster ~ SueS
Thanks to Laura, Sue, and Barb and Daniel, the Ohio Shih Tzu are COVERED.
Sharon will get them Saturday morning and take them directly to her vet for
spay/neuter, rabies shot, and microchipping. Don't forget the grooming! :-} Then we
will work on a transport.
I am watching the snow fall outside ... it's been falling all day ... and my heart is filled
with gratitude to all y'all (those who are fostering, those who considered fostering, and
those who prayed and scrambled and crossposted and smiled endearingly at your
Doxie girl, the 4th frozen OH dog will ride on our
husbands/wives/significant others) ... THANK YOU. And a special thank you to
transport on her way to Small Dog MN Rescue
Sharon who has yet to have lunch due to being on the email/phone all day making
miracles happen for three little frozen Tzu. ~ Bekye
I was finally able to get dressed between 4-5 p.m., my time. Swallowing a sandwich as I type. Frankly, I am so very grateful to this
wonderful rescue where hearts and homes repeatedly open to take "just one more" of God's sweet creatures who need us so desperately
... especially as the temperatures and snows fall. God bless. ~ SharonH
This is what the Akron HS vet tech person transformed them into
because of the severity of their mats. After a 4-hour intake
process for this pack, I left exhausted forgetting to get photocopies
of the paperwork yesterday, for which I apologize.
The scab/open sore on Jasper's head (left) resulted from severe
matting too close to the skin when clipped (I'm told).
Laura, these targets were moving so fast around the exam room,
and the boys wanted so much to get amorous with Mia, she was in
the crate, and I missed getting her photo.
You all are getting incredibly great fosters, despite all of the neglect and abuse by the owner from whom they were confiscated, and a
week in a makeshift overflow barn shelter with no heat. The boys are feisty and randy, while Mia is the snuggler. Leo would also like to
be held when he's not engrossed in exploring his universe with Jasper, who is an all-out hoot! Once uncrated from the transport, Jasper
christened the exam room so much I was ready to ask if they had some waders I could borrow. These dogs have lived outside their
entire lives and are NOT housetrained. You all are going to need belly bands and/or panties for sure. The vet estimates them to be
between 1-2 years old. All will be spayed and/or neutered this week. They are all been deemed healthy, cute, fun and funny. SharonH

All Is Well
Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed
together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household world that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well.

Welcome Home:
Placing a pet in a wonderful, adoptive home or helping at your shelter is the happiest moment in rescue, even if it doesn't feel like it at
the moment. You helped to make a perfect love story, and you get to move on to help yet another. This is why we do rescue. The circle
completed. ~ Lavina
Chris Pugsley Rockstar joined his new mom and dad, Cindi and Jerry. They are about the most perfect home I could think of for
Christopher - And were they ever excited when we pulled up. They were standing outside, waving and jumping up and down - we
couldn't have missed them. Chris took it all in stride, but when we were taking pictures, he was busy taking in the frying burger smells
on the breeze - he was not interested in looking nice for his last picture for his foster mom. ~ LisaH
Saturday, we treked to Friesland Wisconsin (Approx. 2 hours northwest of Milwaukee) to do the home visit of Tammy Zenger, with
Caesar riding shotgun. As usual Caesar was happy to remind me to turn off the turn signal, as he barks as soon as it goes on. On the
back roads of rural Wisconsin he decided that I needed to be warned of each approaching car. Fortunately I was able to convince
him that it was not necessary to bark at every car and truck, but that tractors and manure wagons warranted his attention (yes we
passed both).
But I digress.... Tammy fell in love with Caesar from the pics we emailed her and the match was consumated at first site. Her first
words were "I'm in love and he is much cuter in person" Caesar immediately ran up to Tammy to greet her. When we entered her
home, he started to explore every room, coveted Tammy's stuffed dog sitting on an end table and quickly decided to make himself at
home on the couch. Tammy lives alone and has no other pets. She was looking for a dog that "loves" to walk and ride in the car. Caesar
loves both. We explained all of Caesar’s history and faults. Tammy updated us a few days later that Caesar is the perfect dog. ~ Dan

Adorable little Cachu went to his forever home yesterday. He took a piece of my heart with him. Bill and Mary are great with him.
Their dog Teddy seems to be a good playmate for Cachu. And I've got visitation rights!!! ~ MaryAnn
Rusty and Kim 4ever, thanks to Eric who understands love.
Maggie (formerly Marie) found her forever home with her foster mom Lynne!!
My parents are officially adopting Nathan - now renamed Obie. My parents are crazy about him, but he is definitely my mom's dog.
They loved mine, called them the "granddogs", etc. but weren't interested in having their own. They adopted Oliver last year. Oliver has
his own carrier that sits by the front door, and those little feet do not touch the ground unless he WANTS them to. lol He has a whole
wardrobe of clothes, belly bands and blankets, and they take him everywhere with them. Or I should say they take both boys with them
everywhere. Obie is not interested in riding in the carrier but loves walking and riding in the car, and he's already amassing his own
wardrobe, as well. And the best news is that he's a permanent member of my family now! ~ Leann Lund
Cross Country dog: Duchess joined Cristal and Gary and Baby in their big rig, traveling across the country.
The reunion between Mitzi and Vickie's one-year-old Tzu, Emo, when Mitzi got in the car today was a beautiful, and it convinced Vickie
that Mitzi was truly going home. So, Vickie will be filing the adoption paperwork and sending the adoption fee in, and Mitzi will become a
permanent member of the Fountain household.
Digger is doing just fine. He has become quite comfortable – eating, sleeping, and playing with his toys. We had a few growls but he
stopped immediately with a firm no. He met our cleaning lady today. He was friendly and playful with her. He seems to get along quite
well with my Mom – although he sleeps with me. ~ Cindy
Good Wishes and Thanks… Our dogs in their forever homes
One of the most heartwarming aspects of rescue, is the love between people and animals, the homes who welcome animals with love.
From people who believe in us, our dogs, and rescue:
Little Daisy has settled in so great, like she has lived here all her life. She has stolen all our hearts !!! O'Malley the cat tries to play with
her, but Daisy doesn't know what to do she just stops! It is so cute though, she is loved by all , even the cat. Daisy loves the snow !!!!
We have paths all over the yard. ~ Sandy
Buddy’s new mom said, “I’m so happy he’s here! He is such a treasure!” She, her son, and his wife have been playing with him. She
bought him another bed so he has one in the bedroom, one in the living room, and the fleece mat that I bought him next to her computer
so he can be with her when she is working. He seems to be getting along with his new sister (8 year old rat terrier female). ~ Marsha
Bree is doing wonderful. She scratches at the door to go out. She is fully potty trained and gets her meals served in bed (what a lucky
girl). Her true personality is coming out and we adore her. She likes to take long walks to the woods and loves it when both mom and
dad accompany her. She is starting to follow me around especially when I tell her, “time to go to bed.” She is one special puppy. I am
so glad we have her. ~ Sabrina and Carol Mott. She loves her Daddy.
Emma and Elliott: Everything is going well. Eating good, playing nice, sleeping very well. Walks in the am. after work and pm before
bed. Everyone loves them who meets them! I love them dearly. They are a joy! They are so smart. They know what door to go to go
outside! I love the greeting I get from them when i come home! (It’s nice to be needed. :) ~ Renay
Ernie (formerly Gizmo) has taught himself how to get up onto the back of the sofa and walk along it until he gets to the table. Once
there, he searches for anything that takes his fancy. Usually, it's something from the paper family -- kleenex, napkins, magazines, paper
towels, newspapers -- if it fits in his mouth -- and especially if it's paper -- it's his! He is a closet paper shredder. I should probably give
him everything we normally put in the shredder machine! Ernie also loves socks and shoes. He will swipe whatever he can out of the
laundry basket; then runs all over the house with it. ~ Joyce
Marco is doing well. His happy-go-lucky personality is starting to shine through! He is such a little snuggler! Everyone who meets him
falls in love. ~ Jennifer Mueller
My little gal Patience is really funny. I had a houseguest last week and she has been a great little hostess all winter to my various guests,
but when Jack and I got into big discussions and gossip she was so jealous she kept trying to get my attention and finally dragged over
her toys to tell me to play with her -- so of course I did. Then when Jack was leaving and he embraced me, she got up on her hind legs
and wormed her way between us, "saying" hug me too. So of course I did that too. She just makes me laugh and causes many comments
when we go out walking, what with her little strut showing off her hairbows and pearls. I'm just mad about the gal! Thank you, thank
you! Barbara Pekow
We took Catcher in to the bank a week or so ago to visit Nikki and he made a real hit! He does everywhere he goes! Everytime I look at
him, I say a silent thank you to you. ~ Cathy
