The GVCC Legislative Committee wants you to know about some pieces of legislation that may affect your business: • A3071 – Provides premium assistance to certain small employers who purchase health benefit plans; appropriates $10 million to encourage small employers to provide health benefits coverage to their employees and their employees’ dependents. • A3111 – Provides partial sales tax exemption for energy and utility service to certain manufacturers. • A3298 – Directs installation of electric vehicle charging stations at service areas on the state’s toll roads. • S2099 – Freezes managed care reimbursement rates for out-of-network health care providers until January 1, 2016. • A4125 / S2866 – Requires any employer with more than 10 employees to pay for sick leave after 90 days employment. Cap is 40 hours per year and the employee can carry over time from year to year. *The GVCC is opposed to this legislation. THINK FARMERS... THINK FRANK Get Smarter about your Insurance! Comcast Offers Dual-Band Wi-Fi Signals In One Device Preziosi • Nicholson & Associates Hosts Jimmy Rollins Event The Millville-based accounting firm Preziosi • Nicholson & Associates PA was one of the primary sponsors of Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins’ fundraising event held recently at the Union League in Philadelphia. The Rollins Family Foundation’s 4th Annual Gala Taste of the World: Bollywood Bash, was held to raise funds and awareness for the Foundation which is dedicated to making healthy food more readily available to Philadelphia area children and families. According to Rollins, access to healthy food is at the core of many issues that face the Delaware Valley including education, crime and major health risks. The Rollins Family Foundation continues to partner with organizations like Preziosi • Nicholson & Associates in an effort to make more fresh food affordable to area families. The May event was attended by many Phillies players and their wives and is the foundation's sixth year raising money for children, at-risk youth and families in need. Preziosi’s group also sponsored the 2014 ShopRite LPGA Classic held at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey. Other fundraising efforts recently hosted by Preziosi • Nicholson & Associates include the 17th Annual Landisville Produce Scholarship Golf Tournament held in April and the March Mardi Gras Bash, which raised funds for The Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation. Preziosi • Nicholson & Associates PA is located at The Glassworks on Wheaton Avenue in Millville. Comcast Business HAS launched the nation’s first wireless gateway service built specifically for a commercial environment with an integrated modem equipped to produce dual-band Wi-Fi signals. The Business Wireless Gateway allows entrepreneurs to assign one private wireless signal for their back-office needs and a separate public signal (Xfinity WiFi) for customers or visitors, creating a simple and secure solution for businesses of all kinds that want to take advantage of the many benefits of Wi-Fi. This device and Business WiFi service are included with most Comcast Business Internet plans, and Comcast Business supports the device and provides customer service 24/7. “We are making the Business Wireless Gateway available nationwide because research has proven time and again that Wi-Fi is a game changer for brick-andmortar-based small businesses,” said John Guillaume, vice president of Product Development, Comcast Business. “Many different types of customers—coffee shops, law firms, real estate offices, gyms, libraries and more—want to attract and retain visitors to their location and give employees the tools they need to be more productive. Wi-Fi can be critical on both fronts, and this device can help make that easy to manage.” A recent survey of “Main Street” small business owners by Bredin Research indicated that some small business owners who don’t offer public WiFi to their patrons have concerns about technical support, cost and customer misuse. Developed by Cisco, Comcast’s new Business Wireless Gateway addresses each of these concerns and more. Bottino’s ShopRite Nominated as Good Neighbor The GVCC is proud to have nominated a winner of this year’s New Jersey Business & Industry Association Good Neighbor Award—Bottino’s Shop-Rite on West Landis Avenue in Vineland. The Bottino family has been serving the Vineland, Cumberland County community since 1999, when they took over operation of an existing supermarket in GVCC GREEN CORNER The Chamber’s Green Initiatives Committee is focused on educating our membership on opportunities, issues and general information regarding environmentally friendly practices. The Chamber’s Green Initiatives Committee would like to know about green energy and practices your business or organization has engaged in that have helped your company prosper. Call us at 856-691-7400, or e-mail us at [email protected]. The Green Initiatives Committee held an off-site meeting at the Vineland Municipal Utilities this month. The committee members were hosted by Joseph Isabella and Steve August of the VMEU. Several topics were included in our discussion: • Vineland is leading the country in solar power. • Vineland offers the lowest electricity rates in the state of New Jersey. • The VMEU has increased flexibility of power sources, which helps make it a very efficient operation. • VMEU has a strong portfolio and is constantly monitoring the power market so it can react and plan for the future, thereby keeping rates to consumers as low as possible. After our discussions, we ventured outside to take an up-close and personal tour of the Down 11 electricity generating station. This includes state of the art technology to operate the Rolls Royce turbine engine. All Green Committee members agreed it was a fascinating tour and we sincerely appreciate the Vineland Municipal Electric Utilities spending time with us! Eye Associates Offers and parking, but from more than 200 jobs retained in the area. Many local contractors participated in construction, bringing additional economic benefit to the area. This new store is attracting Under One Roof! additional traffic to the corridor, boosting neighboring businesses as well. This chamber feels there is no better example of a new good neighbor than Bottino’s Shop-Rite in Vineland. The Bottino Shop-Rite group accepted their award at a New Jersey Business & Industry ceremony on June 6. Also in attendance was Kathy Farinaccio / President of the GVCC, Nicholas Scardino / Susquehanna Bank, and Sandy Forosisky / Vineland’s Economic Development Director. • Complete Eye Exams • Non-dilated digital retinal photos (no more dilating eye drops) • Surgical Consultations & second opinions • Variety of Contact lenses • Full service optical shops at all locations • Selective laser trabeculoplasty for glaucoma • Custom Blade-Free LASIK • Small incision, no stitch, needless cataract surgery... • We offer all three available advanced lenses for Cataract Surgery: Crystalens, ReStor and ReZoom • Glaucoma surgery • Cosmetic and plastic surgery • Diseases and Surgery of the Retina Vineland (856) 691-8188 Cherry Hill (856) 428-5797 Blackwood (856) 227-6262 1-800-922-1766 • www.sjeyeassociates.com Hammonton (609) 567-2355 Mays Landing (609) 909-0700 WWW.VINELANDCHAMBER.ORG { C5 } Vineland. Their vision for excellence and their commitment to the community, motivated them to partner with the City of Vineland to create a redevelopment plan for an abandoned and dilapidated auto salvage yard that had been neglected for many years. With financing from Susquehanna Bank and National Co-Op Bank, the Bottino family leveraged the New Markets Tax Credit program to construct a $25 million, 88,000 square foot, state-of-the-art supermarket/retail center, making an impactful step forward in the redevelopment of our city’s west side commercial corridor. Working with the EDA, the Bottinos made sure that this new store met the objectives of the NJ Fresh Foods initiative, bringing healthy food choices to an underserved market. In addition, they included back-up generators at the store, which will allow continuous operation to the area in an emergency or natural disaster, such as Hurricane Sandy or the derecho winds that devastated Vineland in June 2012. The entire Vineland area now benefits from not only a newly-designed and larger supermarket with better access When Member EVENTS Rita Rivera Worley, CALA A CALENDAR OF EVENTS PRESENTED BY GVCC AND ITS MEMBERS Concert in the Courtyard Come out for a summer celebration of musical favorites and conversation.
