The Queen Edith International – Autumn 2013 AUTUMN 2013 - Issue 9 QEI The Queen Edith International Queen Edith Footballers Win ESFA Tournament by Edward An incredible performance at a shootout, our spot kick talent tournament at Netherhall pulled us through. School on the 6 of November th got them a shield, medals and qualification to the county tournament on the 17th of January. In a tight semi-final they scraped through on penalties after a spiky 0-0 draw. Well done to our Korfball team. The Queen Edith International – Autumn 2013 Year 2 Teddy Bear Hospital On the 26th of November the Year 2’s went to the Teddy Bear Hospital! Each and every one of them brought their favourite teddy bear and had a very enjoyable day. They did many activities which taught them how to treat your bear/patient when they’re hurt. Here are some of the activities: Looking at a real X-ray Looking inside a teddy “Finding out what to do if we had to call 999” Fixing a teddy’s broken heart Wearing crutches for fun Arthur from 2.1 said, “I got a real stethoscope and listened to my heart.” and “We put blindfolds on and someone put fruit in our mouths and we had to guess what it was – I got an apple.” Many, many Year 2’s adored their day out. The teddies did too. Here are some quotes from the children: Arthur – “When my toy got home, he had a broken arm, splinted rib bones, a broken head and a sore tummy.” By Leonia Depledge The Queen Edith International – Autumn 2013 Year 1 Raptor Foundation Trip On Wednesday 25th September, Year 1 went on a school trip to the Raptor Foundation. The activities they took part in included feeding owls, dissected owl pellets, investigated owls for their topic and even got the chance to sketch these nocturnal raptors. Charlotte (1.2 who fed an owl) thought that “It was so exciting!” They investigated other raptors as well as owls to help them with their topic back at school. By Edward (6.2) Cross Country Running On 28th November, many Year 5 and Year 6 boys and girls took part in a huge cross country running competition, running on their own and in teams. They ran a distance of around 1.5km. There were four races: Year 5 boys, Year 5 girls, Year 6 boys and Year 6 girls. In the morning, year 6 walked down to the hall, dressed up as evacuees and went to Brighton, on the train into the countryside. Also, they drew the belongings we brought, and wrote about why they were special in our new classroom. In the middle of maths the air raid siren put on our gas mask. Later on, after lunch year 6 went down to the hall and practiced singing and dancing, to the Chatanooga choo choo. They made paper spitfires, and sewed clothes with holes back together. They also practised first aid by wrapping bandages around other people. Then the parents came in, and they talked about their work and made posters for why women should be able to work in factories and fend for their countries. Kaan: How good were Colville? Theo: They had some good players, but their defence was too open. Kaan: What was Queen Edith’s weakness? Bronze Ambassadors Two year sixes (Isla in 6.2 and Dan in 6.1) are representing the school as Bronze Ambassadors. They took their roles in March 2013 and have had a busy time, organising sports activities and events with Mr Barnes for KS2.
