2007 Mean Green Football
Florida Atlantic (2-1, 1-0) at North Texas (0-2, 0-0)
Sept. 22, 2007 • Fouts Field (30,500)
Denton, Texas • 6 p.m. CDT
The Particulars
North Texas will open Sun Belt Conference play by hosting Florida Atlantic at Fouts Field
Saturday. It is also the home-opener for the Mean Green, which lost at Oklahoma and
SMU before having last Saturday off. The game is being televised as part of a Florida
Atlantic production and will be aired only in South Florida. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:05
p.m. The game can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network with George Dunham and
Hank Dickenson.
The Principals
North Texas is 0-2 under first-year head coach Todd Dodge, beginning the season with
loses to Oklahoma and SMU on the road. The Mean Green is 41-12-2 in home-openers at
Fouts Field and 4-2 in Sun Belt Conference openers. North Texas leads the Sun Belt and
ranks third nationally in passing offense. Florida Atlantic is 2-1 and coming off, perhaps,
its biggest win in school history, a 42-39 victory over Minnesota. The Owls are also leading the Sun Belt Conference standings with a 1-0 record. The Florida Atlantic defense has
been stout during the early season, ranking second in the league in total defense, scoring
defense and rushing defense.
The Series
North Texas has never beaten Florida Atlantic in the three games between the two teams.
All three games in the series have been close with Florida Atlantic winning by seven, three
and one point in the last three years. Last year in Denton, North Texas out-gained the
Owls 338-239 in total offense, but had to settle for three field goals inside the red zone in a
17-16 loss. North Texas had four turnovers in that game while Florida Atlantic had none.
Next Game
North Texas will play its second ranked opponent this season as it travels to Arkansas. It
will be the first time the Mean Green has played in Fayetteville since 1972. Florida Atlantic will also play a Southeastern Conference opponent next week traveling to Kentucky.

2007 Mean Green Football
Home Openers – North Texas is 55-19-2 all-time in home openers and 41-12-2 in home
openers at Fouts Field. The Mean Green had lost two straight home-opening games prior
to last year’s 24-6 win over SMU. North Texas hosted Florida Atlantic in the 2004 home
opener, losing 20-13 to the Owls the year before they joined the Sun Belt Conference.
Conference Openers – North Texas is 4-2 in Sun Belt Conference openers, losing in 2001
to Louisiana Monroe and losing last year to Middle Tennessee. The Mean Green won four
straight Sun Belt openers from 2002-2005. This will be the first time in four years that
North Texas didn’t open its conference schedule against Middle Tennessee.
Not an Uncommon Start – This is the sixth time in the last 10 years that North Texas
has started the season 0-2. In five of those six years, one of the first two losses came to
an opponent ranked in the top 10 nationally. The last two times that North Texas started
the season 0-2 was 2003 and 2004, which were both Sun Belt Conference championship
years. Dating back to 1922, there has been 11 times when North Texas started the season
0-2 and went on to have a winning record and five times when it went on to a conference
championship.
First Quarter Breakout – North Texas scored 14 points in the first quarter against SMU,
which were the most points scored by the Mean Green in the opening frame since it scored
14 against Arkansas State on Nov. 14, 2004. Last year, North Texas broke a 23-game first
quarter touchdown drought in the 11th week of the season when the Mean Green scored
five minutes into the game against Florida Atlantic. In 12 games last year North Texas
totaled 22 points in the first quarter.
Bookend Scoring – North Texas has scored 14 points in the first quarter this year and 21
points in the fourth quarter but has been shutout in the second quarter and held to six points
in the third. The second quarter has been the downfall for the Mean Green through its first
two games, being outscored 35-0 against Oklahoma and 14-0 against SMU. The Mean
Green has allowed more points and scored fewer points in the second quarter than any
other quarter this year.
Dodge Ball Has Begun – Todd Dodge became the 16th head coach in North Texas football
history when he was hired to lead the Mean Green on Dec. 12, 2006. Dodge is back for
his second tour of duty at North Texas after serving as the Mean Green passing game
coordinator in 1992 and 1993. Over the last five years as the head coach at Southlake
Carroll High School, Dodge led his team to an amazing 79-1 record while winning four
state championships. His only loss during that time was by a single point in the 2003 state
championship game.
A Return to the North Texas Sideline – Mean Green head coach Todd Dodge is making
his second tour of duty on the North Texas sideline after he was an assistant coach under
Dennis Parker in 1992 and 1993. Dodge was the passing game coordinator under Parker,
helping teach the most prolific passer in North Texas history Mitch Maher. During his
two years as the passing game coordinator, Dodge’s offense totaled 4,806 passing yards
for an average of 218.5 yards per game. Under his guidance in 1993, North Texas had
2,626 yards and 24 passing touchdowns, both of which have only been surpassed one time
since then - and that was the year after Dodge left (1994). Maher, who holds North Texas
passing records for career yards with 8,515, attributes much of his development to Dodge.
North Texas has not had over 2,000 yards passing as a team since 1995, which was the first
year the Mean Green returned to Div. I-A.
Making the Rare Jump – North Texas head coach Todd Dodge became just the sixth
coach in history to make the rare jump from high school to major college head coach
when he was announced as the new Mean Green boss on Dec. 12, 2006. Dodge joins Paul
Brown of Ohio State, who came from Massillon, Ohio High School in 1941; Roy Lester
of Maryland, who came from Montgomery High School in Rockville, Md. in 1969; Bob
Commings of Iowa, who came from Massillon High School in 1974; Jerry Faust of Notre
Dame, who came from Moeller High School in Cincinnati in 1981 and Dennis Parker who
came to North Texas from Marshall (Texas) High School in 1991. Brown coached for three
seasons at Ohio State and had a career record of 18-8-1. Lester was 7-25 in three years at
Maryland, Commings was 17-38 in five years at Iowa, Faust was 30-26-1 in five years at
Notre Dame and Parker was 11-21-1 during his three years at North Texas.
First-Year Head Coaches – Of the 24 Football Bowl Subdivision schools that made
coaching changes this year, 13 hired coaches who have never been a college head coach.
Through the first three weeks of the season, the 13 first-time head coaches have a combined
record of 18-20. There are three first-time head coaches who are still undefeated this season,
Troy Calhoun at Air Force, Jeff Jagodzinski at Boston College and Bill Lynch at Indiana.

2007 Mean Green Football
Rough Welcome – North Texas head coach Todd Dodge’s first game as a college head
coach just so happened to come against one of the best teams in the nation. As just the sixth
head coach in college football history to make the jump from high school to a major college,
Dodge was just the second of those to begin his collegiate career against a ranked opponent.
Bob Commings of Iowa lost 24-7 to sixth-ranked Michigan in his first game after coming
from Massillon (Ohio) High School in 1974. Of the five previous coaches to jump from
high school to major college, only Paul Brown of Ohio State had a winning record in his
first year when he went 6-1-1 in 1941.
Home Grown – Of the 104 players on the North Texas roster, 94, or 90.4 percent, come
from the state of Texas. Only four Football Bowl Subdivision schools have a higher
percentage of in-state players on their respective rosters. San Jose State leads the way with
97.0 percent of its players (98 of 101) from the state of California. Florida Atlantic comes
in second with 95.6 percent (88 of 92) of its players coming from Florida. Fresno State has
92.4 percent of its players (97 of 105) from California. The University of Texas has 92.3
percent of its roster (108 of 117) made up from kids hailing from the Lone Star State.
Fresh Faces – North Texas had 21 players make their first appearance in a game during the
season-opening loss to Oklahoma. Of those 21 who saw their first action, 15 were freshman,
including nine true freshmen. For redshirt freshmen offensive linemen Matt Menard and
Esteban Santiago it was not only their first action in a game, it was also their first career
start. Walk-on true freshman kicker Thomas Moreland also saw his first action.
Walk-On Success – North Texas has had success in developing walk-on players into key
contributors over the past few years. On this year’s team there are four starters who came to
North Texas as walk-ons. Senior linebacker Derek Mendoza, junior punter Truman Spencer
and junior wide receiver Casey Fitzgerald all came to North Texas as walk-ons but have
earned scholarships in their time on the team. Freshman kicker Thomas Moreland is the
remaining starter who came as a non-scholarship player. Perhaps the best player in North
Texas history that originally came as a walk-on was linebacker Chris Hurd who concluded
his career as the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2003.
Chasing a Repeat of History – North Texas had a combined 5-18 record over the past two
years, going 2-9 in 2005 and 3-9 in 2006. The last time North Texas lost 18 games in a twoyear span was 1981-82, which it followed up with a conference championship and an 8-4
record in 1983.
Building a Winning Attitude – Head Coach Todd Dodge has made it a mission to build his
team with players who have experienced winning and been around winning programs. The
18 freshmen who make up Dodge’s first signing class have combined to play in a total of
11 state championship games in high school. Of those 11 state championship appearances,
seven have won state titles. Wide receivers Sam Dibrell and Marcus King, linebacker Justin
Padron, defensive end Kyle Russo and quarterback Giovanni Vizza all won at least one state
championship in high school.
Ford One of Youngest – North Texas offensive coordinator Todd Ford is the fourthyoungest offensive coordinator in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly
Div. I-A). Ford was born on March 28, 1973 making him 34 years old during the 2007
season. Only Major Applewhite (29) of Alabama, Brian Harsin (30) of Boise State and
Mark Helfrich (33) of Colorado are younger in the OC ranks. Among both offensive and
defensive coordinators, Ford ranks as the 10th-youngest in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Letterman Breakdown – Of the 104 players on the current North Texas roster, 45 have
earned at least one varsity letter while playing football for the Mean Green. Only 11 players
have earned three letters and eight of those are expected to be starters this week. There are
16 players who have earned two letters and 18 who have earned one letter. Of the 59 players
who have not yet earned a varsity letter at North Texas, 16 are in the current two-deep.
Television Time – North Texas is scheduled to play on television five times in 2007,
including the season-opener at Oklahoma which was televised nationally by FOX Sports
Net. The home-opener against Florida Atlantic will be televised back to the state of Florida
as part of the Owls television deal on Sept. 22. The Mean Green will also play on ESPN
Regional as part of the Sun Belt Conference television package in games against LouisianaLafayette, Louisiana-Monroe and Arkansas State.
Size Wise – Senior defensive end Blake Burruss and freshman offensive lineman Jacob Kaiser are
the tallest members of the Mean Green this year, standing at 6-7. Sophomore offensive lineman
Ajani Banks is the heaviest North Texas player at 328 pounds. Backup running back Joshua
Maldonado is the shortest player at 5-5 while cornerback Gary Oubre is the lightest at 160 pounds.

Sun Belt preseason all-conference, which was more than every school in the league except
Louisiana-Monroe and Middle Tennessee. Senior defensive end Jeremiah Chapman,
senior linebacker Maurice Holman, junior punter Truman Spencer and senior safety Aaron
Weathers all earned the prestigious preseason honor.
Mean Green Picked Seventh – North Texas was picked to finish seventh in the preseason
Sun Belt Conference poll which is voted on by league coaches and selected media. The
Mean Green finished 2006 seventh in the standings with a 2-5 conference record.
Coaches Up/Coaches Down – North Texas will put four assistant coaches in the press
box during games and will have five assistants along with head coach Todd Dodge on the
sideline. In the press box will be offensive coordinator Todd Ford, along with running
backs coach Shelton Gandy, safeties coach Chuck Petersen and defensive ends coach David
Rausch. On the sideline with Dodge will be defensive coordinator Ron Mendoza, defensive
tackles coach Robert Drake, wide receivers coach Clayton George, cornerbacks coach
Butch LaCroix and offensive line coach Spencer Leftwich. Graduate assistant coaches
Beau Davidson and Scott Vestal will also be in the press box.
Well Represented in the NFL – North Texas has had more players drafted to play
professional football than any other team in the Sun Belt Conference. Since the first NFL
draft in 1936, North Texas has had 77 players drafted, including seven players picked in
the first round. Arkansas State is second among Sun Belt Schools which have had players
drafted with 46. Joe Greene is the highest drafted player ever from North Texas when he
was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the fourth overall pick in 1969.
Enrollment on Rapid Pace – The University of North Texas enrollment for the 2007
fall semester is 34,268, making it the fourth-largest university in the state of Texas. The
enrollment has increased by an average of nearly six percent each year since 2000, when
the enrollment was 26,493. North Texas is the fastest-growing university in Texas and at
its current growth rate, would surpass the University of Houston by the year 2010. Along
with Houston, only the University of Texas-Austin and Texas A&M University have more
students than North Texas.
Gender Equity Report Card - The North Texas athletic department ranked second in
the nation and received a grade of ‘A’ on the Gender Equity Scorecard - an annual report
published Penn State University-York in an attempt to measure each school’s commitment
to women’s athletics. The report ranked colleges in the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision
on opportunities available to women’s athletics, including scholarships, participation,
coaching salaries, recruitment budget and operating expenses. The study incorporated 113
colleges which represent the 11 major football playing conferences. The Mean Green
finished second only to the University of Nevada, which finished on top of the study for
the second straight year. North Texas is one of only 11 schools in the country, and the only
program in the south, to receive a grade of ‘A’ from the scorecard. North Texas was also
recognized as the champion of the Sun Belt Conference in which no other schools received
the ‘A’ grade.
Academic Achievement – North Texas placed 12 football players on the 2006-07 Sun Belt
Conference Commissioners list which recognizes student-athletes who maintain a grade
point average between 3.5 and 4.0 for the academic year. Louisiana-Lafayette also had
12 members of its football team on the list while no other Sun Belt school had more than
seven honorees. North Texas also had 21 additional football players on the 2006-07 Sun
Belt Academic Honor Roll which recognizes student-athletes with a grade point average
between 3.0 and 3.5.
Mean Green and Under Armour - The North Texas football team has entered an
agreement with athletic apparel company Under Armour for the 2007 season. The team
will be outfitted from head to toe with Under Armour, including shoes, socks, pants,
jerseys, gloves and wrist bands. North Texas is one of only five college football programs
to have such a deal to wear the popular performance gear, joining Auburn, Maryland, South
Carolina and Texas Tech. It is the first time in recent history Mean Green players will be
outfitted exclusively by one company. Coaches will also be outfitted in Under Armour for
game-day.

Conference Leaders Collide – This week’s game will feature the top two rated
passers in the Sun Belt Conference with North Texas’ Daniel Meager and Florida
Atlantic’s Rusty Smith. Smith leads the league with a pass efficiency rating of 152.0
while Meager ranks second with a rating of 134.6. Both quarterbacks are coming off
career-best games. Meager set his career-high and broke a North Texas record with
601 passing yards in his last game against SMU. Smith also set a career-high and also
broke a Florida Atlantic record when he threw for 463 yards in his team’s win over
Minnesota last Saturday. Smith also leads the conference in touchdown passes with
seven.

SMU. Meager broke the North Texas single-game records for passing attempts with
64, passing completions with 46 and passing yards with 601. His passing yardage also
ranks as the 12th-best single-game performance in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision
history. Fitzgerald broke the North Texas and Sun Belt Conference records for singlegame receptions with 18 and receiving yards with 327. His reception total ties for the
18th-best in NCAA FBS history and his receiving yards is the fourth-best in NCAA
FBS history.

National Leader – After his blistering performance against SMU, junior wide receiver
Casey Fitzgerald leads the nation in receiving yards per game with an average of 226.5.
That average is more than 50 yards per game better than his closest competition, who
averages 176.0 yards per game. North Texas has never had a receiver lead the nation in
receiving yards and only had four players ever lead the conference in receiving yards.
The best average per game in receiving yards by a North Texas receiver during a season
is 113.0 yards per game by both John Love (1966) and Barry Moore (1969) when they
had 1,130 yards in 10 games.

B-Jack on the Attack – Senior wide receiver Brandon Jackson came into this season
with 41 career receptions and 463 career receiving yards. After two games this year,
Jackson already has 17 receptions for 217 yards. Jackson set new career highs against
SMU with 10 receptions for 133 yards, but was overshadowed by teammate Casey
Fitzgerald who broke school records with his performance. Jackson currently ranks
17th nationally with an average of 108.5 receiving yards per game. Jackson is on pace
to have 102 receptions and 1,302 receiving yards this season which would break North
Texas single-season records… unless his teammate Fitzgerald has already raised the bar
even higher.
Two Hit the Century Mark – The Mean Green had two receivers with over 100 yards
receiving against SMU which was the first time since Nov. 22, 1997 that feat had been
accomplished at North Texas. Junior Casey Fitzgerald had 327 yards while senior
Brandon Jackson had 133 yards against the Mustangs. The last time that had been
accomplished before the SMU game was against Utah State in 1997 when Jay Young
had 103 yards and Brock McCrew had 102 yards.
Passing Fancy – Through two games this season, North Texas has amassed 833 yards
of passing for an average of 416.5 yards per game, which ranks No. 3 nationally. The
two-game passing total for North Texas this year is already more yards than the Mean
Green totaled in seven different seasons, including the 1986 season when it finished
the year with 750 yards passing. The North Texas record for team passing yards in a
season is 2,944 with an average of 294.4 yards per game, set in 1969.
Efficient Despite Mistakes – Despite throwing six interceptions in its first two games,
the North Texas offense has been surprisingly efficient when looking at the numbers.
Starting quarterback Daniel Meager has four of the teams interceptions, but has also
completed 67 percent of his passes and has three touchdowns. His efficiency rating of
134.57 is the best rating by a Mean Green quarterback since Scott Hall had a rating of
137.09 his senior year in 2004. None of the three quarterbacks (including Meager) who
saw significant playing time last year had a pass efficiency rating above 100.
Mosley Makes Plays – True freshman running back Micah Mosely saw his first action
in the season-opener against Oklahoma and then earned his first career start against
SMU. Mosely was the team’s leading rusher in each of the first two games and has
averaged 3.2 yards per carry on 17 attempts this year.

Mean Green Defensive Notes
Slow Returns – North Texas and Florida Atlantic rank at the bottom of the Sun Belt
Conference in both kickoff returns and punt returns. The Mean Green averages just 2.5
yards per punt return, which is just slightly better than the Owls 1.5 yards per return.
Florida Atlantic barely edges out North Texas in kickoff returns averaging 16.0 yards per
return compared to 15.5 yards per return for the Mean Green.
Facing Air Attack – For the second time in three games, North Texas will face a team
that ranks in the top 30 in the nation in passing offense. Florida Atlantic ranks 30th in the
NCAA with an average of 277.7 passing yards per game. The Mean Green opened the
season against Oklahoma, which ranks 12th in the nation with an average of 324 yards per
game.
Who to Watch – The Mean Green defense will have to account for all kinds of potential
receivers against Florida Atlantic. The Owls have had 13 different players catch passes this
year and six of those have caught at least one touchdown. Of the six who have touchdown
receptions in the first three games, two are wide receivers, two are running backs and one
is a tight end. Compare that to North Texas where eight players have receptions, but wide
receivers Casey Fitzgerald and Brandon Jackson are the only two with touchdowns.
Spencer Shines – Junior all-conference punter Truman Spencer has turned in living up to
his preseason billing as one of the top punters in the nation. Spencer has averaged 42 yards
per punt with 14 attempts in two games to rank 39th nationally. He boomed a career-long
73-yard punt against SMU, backing the Mustangs up to their own 3-yard line to start a
drive. He has now gone seven straight games (37 straight attempts) without booting a punt
into the end zone for a touchback
Looking for a Three-Peat – Aaron Weathers is looking to become the only Mean Green
player in history to lead the team in tackles for three consecutive seasons. Weathers led the
team with 113 tackles in 2005 and 78 last season. He becomes only the seventh player to
lead their team in consecutive seasons since North Texas starting keeping tackles as a stat
in 1977. Of the seven previous players to lead their teams in back-to-back years, Weathers
is the only defensive back. After two games this year he leads the Mean Green with 16
tackles.
Lack of Sacks – The Mean Green defense will be trying to increase its pressure on the
quarterback against Florida Atlantic after recording just one sack in the first two games.
Actually, the one sack that North Texas had against SMU is the only sack for the Mean
Green defense in the last four games dating back to last year. North Texas ranks last in the
Sun Belt Conference in sacks.
Off-season Movement – There has been several position changes defensively for North
Texas during the early part of this year. Junior Steve Warren has moved from safety
to linebacker which was complimented by the move of junior Germaine Dawson from
linebacker to safety. Sophomore Desmon Chatman moved from cornerback to safety and
is very close to cracking the two-deep. Former tight-ends Charlie Brown, Ryan Davenport,
Draylen Ross and Bryant Seidle all found homes on the defensive side of the ball. Brown
and Davenport are playing defensive end while Ross is a defensive tackle and Seidle is a
linebacker.
‘Special’ for Two Seasons – The Mean Green special teams has gone 33 games without
allowing a blocked punt. The last time North Texas had a punt blocked was against Baylor,
Sept. 25, 2004. Junior punter Truman Spencer has attempted 141 punts in his three-year
career without giving up a blocked punt. Prior to Spencer’s arrival, the last time the Mean
Green went a whole season without allowing a blocked punt was 1996.
Breaking the Drought – It’s been 99 games and counting since North Texas has returned
a kickoff for a touchdown. Broderick McGrew was the last Mean Green player to do so
when he took a kickoff and returned it 100 yards in a 28-27 loss against Utah State on Nov.
14, 1998. The Mean Green is still well behind the streak leader Missouri, which has gone
270 games without returning a kickoff for a touchdown.

Minnesota vs. FAU
MIAMI (AP) - Rusty Smith threw for 463
yards and five touchdowns, and Florida
Atlantic forced seven turnovers to beat
Minnesota 42-39 Saturday. It was the first
victory for Florida Atlantic against a Big
Ten Conference team. Minnesota fell to 101 against Sun Belt Conference teams. Willie
Rose caught two touchdown passes for the
Owls (2-1), who gained 580 yards. Smith
went 27-for-44. Adam Weber threw four
touchdown passes for Minnesota (1-2), but
also was intercepted four times. He finished
31-for-47 for 335 yards. Smith’s final
touchdown pass, a 16-yarder to Conshario
Johnson, extended the Owls’ lead to 42-24
in the fourth quarter before the Golden
Gophers rallied. They scored twice on
passes to Ernie Wheelwright, but an
interception by Tavious Polo at the Florida
Atlantic 35-yard line with three seconds left
sealed the win. The score was 14-all before
the Owls took advantage of two Minnesota
turnovers to score three touchdowns in the
second quarter and lead 35-14.

scoreless the entire second half and was
driving down the field in the last minutes of
the game to regain the lead but was halted
by its third interception of the game. The
Mean Green led for most of the first half,
but the Owls scored two touchdowns off

Sept. 8, 2007
Norman, Okla. (9/1/07) – DeMarco Murray rushed for five
touchdowns to lead No. 8 Oklahoma football team to a 79-10
victory against North Texas in front of 84,472 at Gaylord Family
Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. The Mean Green
(0-1) lost its first game in the era of head coach Todd Dodge. North
Texas is now 36-53-3 in season openers and 0-7 in the series versus
Oklahoma. The Sooners start off their season, 1-0. Meager started
the game at quarterback and went 15-for-27 for 108 yards. Vizza relieved Meager in the third quarter and went 4-for-11 for 124 yards
and one touchdown. Oklahoma passed for 403 yards in the game,
compared to NT’s 232. North Texas’ first scoring drive of the game
came midway through the third quarter. After the Mean Green recovered a fumble on the North Texas 41-yard line, Vizza led North
Texas on a 47-yard drive. Thomas Moreland connected on his
first-ever field-goal attempt, a 29-yard kick. Vizza connected with
Casey Fitzgerald for a 69-yard touchdown reception at the start of
the fourth quarter. Fitzgerald caught a career-high seven catches for
126 yards. The Oklahoma Sooners needed only 32 seconds to get
on the scoreboard. The eighth-ranked football team went four plays
for 68 yards on its very first drive of the game, culminating with a
15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Sam Bradford to wide
receiver Jermaine Gresham.
DALLAS, Texas (9/8/07) – Despite school-record performances by
Daniel Meager and Casey Fitzgerald, the SMU football team scored
two fourth-quarter touchdowns to take a 45-31 victory against North
Texas on Saturday night at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The Mustangs
(1-1) won its first game of the season and avenges last season’s loss
to the Mean Green. North Texas is still winless at 0-2 and trails in
the series vs. SMU, 28-4-1. The Mustangs lead the series in Dallas against NT, 22-1-1. Meager broke Steve Ramsey’s 38-year old
single-game passing record with a 601-yard performance. The junior
had a career night, completing 46-of-64 passes, both school records.
He also had three touchdown passes. Meager also had a career-high
long pass of 66 yards to Fitzgerald, which set up a third-quarter field
goal. Fitzgerald set the North Texas single-game receiving record
with 327 yards. He caught a career-high eight passes, including two
touchdown passes. The 327 receiving yards is also the fourth-best
single-game performance in NCAA Division I history.
