THE MIAMI HERALD
TIM TEBOW, UF
ALFRED MORRIS, FAU
T.Y. HILTON, FIU
ROD OWENS, FSU
Highlight: A second-team
All-American, Tebow won
the Campbell Trophy,
which is given annually to the nation’s
top scholar-athlete.
Brief: Tebow led the Gators on a
school-record 23-game winning streak,
which ended with a 32-13 loss to Alabama
in the Southeastern Conference title
game. He led the Gators in rushing for the
third consecutive season, and accounted
for five touchdowns in his final home
game, a 37-10 win against FSU.
Highlight: A first-team
All-Sun Belt Conference
selection, Morris was
ranked 15th in the nation in rushing yards
this season.
Brief: A powerful runner from Pensacola,
Morris emerged as the state’s top running
back. He carried the Owls’ offense
throughout the season, and he rushed for
181 yards and two touchdowns in a 51-29
victory at Louisiana-Lafayette. Against
rival FIU, Morris rushed for 158 yards, with
two rushing scores and one receiving.
Highlight: A first-team
All-Sun Belt
Conference selection,
Hilton ranked 13th in the nation in kickoff
returns.
Brief: Hilton accomplished this season
what few other players managed: He
quieted Alabama’s Bryant-Denny
Stadium. Hilton, from Miami Springs, had
a 96-yard return for a touchdown against
the Crimson Tide. He had nine receptions
for 80 yards and two touchdowns against
Rutgers.
Highlight: Owens’
98-yard touchdown
reception against
North Carolina sparked FSU’s
come-from-behind 30-27 victory.
Brief: Owens wasn’t the Seminoles’
flashiest receiver – All-Florida
second-teamer Bert Reed was – but this
Jacksonville native was FSU’s go-to man
in crunch time. Thirty-nine percent of
Owens’ receptions were third-down
conversions. He had 199 receiving yards
and a touchdown against North Carolina.
