EARLY LEARNING CENTERS
Our Early Learning Centers provide quality care and education to children aged birth
to 5 years old. All centers are accredited. The programs mission is to create and foster
opportunities for the children in the community we serve to maximize their potential
in all areas of development. In addition, the families are offered opportunities for
growth and development through individualized services in the areas of education,
dental, mental health, nutrition, social services and parent involvement.
COURT CARE CENTERS
The program provides drop-in childcare for families who are required to attend legal proceedings or other interventions
at Lawson Court, Richard E. Gerstein Criminal Justice Building, Overtown Transit Village Child Support Enforcement
Division, and Lawson E. Thompson Courthouse Center.
Court Care is funded by Miami Dade-County and is a collaboration between the 11th Judicial Circuit Court, Domestic
Violence and Family Courts, and YWCA of Greater Miami-Dade.
YOUTH PROGRAMS
• Intel Computer Clubhouse is a model program for after school learning where young people,
predominately from underserved communities, become confident learners through the use
of technology.
• Stay-In-School (SIS) is designed to serve youth in need of counseling, tutoring, family
services and support in designing individual development and career plans.
• Teen Pregnancy Prevention program counselors respond proactively, to foster various
protective factors and referral support services to middle school youth and their families.
ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
The Economic Empowerment Program addresses barriers to financial stability through a service
delivery model of education, relationship building and group support. This integrated approach
empowers individuals to recognize behaviors that influence financial decision making and builds
the foundation that assists women and families in determining sound financial decisions that will
benefit their families; and utilize appropriate products or tools to build, protect and sustain assets.
Educational classes are offered in English and Spanish, with ancillary services to encourage
participation. Additionally, the program offers incentives for completing program milestones as a
way to bolster client confidence towards achieving their financial goals. Economic Empowerment
served 240 in total.
FAMILY WELLNESS
Reached 5,381 individuals for health education through health
fairs, outreach, classes, and other community events. Of those, 281
unduplicated women, received 405 breast and cervical screenings.
Although our program focuses mainly on women, of the 5,381
individuals reached, 922 men received health education.
SUCCESS STORY
Vonda Stubblefield is a single parent of two
children; when she enrolled her youngest child
into YWCA Cain Tower Early Head Start, Ms.
Stubblefield was very excited about her child
being in school and wanted to be a very active
parent in the program. Being unemployed, she
volunteered very frequently and always asked if
there were additional activities that she could do
with the children. Center Director, Ms. Osline
Pascal, assured Ms. Stubblefield that all of her
participation in the program had not gone
unnoticed and she loved how she interacted with
the children. When asked about her skills and
interests, Ms. Stubblefield stated that she had
some college credit and would be enrolling at
Miami-Dade College the upcoming semester.
Ms. Pascal explained to her the steps and process
of obtaining her 45-hour DCF Child Care Certificate
and told her that she would be a great fit for the
open position that our School Readiness Program
had for a part-time caregiver. In no time, Ms.
Stubblefield completed her child care training,
received her certificate, and Ms. Pascal gladly
hired her as a part-time caregiver.
