Shipping on Lake Wolfgang has existed since the Emperor‘s era. The ‚film-worthy‘ nostalgic paddle
steamer ‘Franz Josef I‘ steams between the villages St. Wolfgang, Strobl and St. Gilgen as the main
attraction of the fleet. In 2008 the boat was given a total face lift, and now it almost looks like it did in
1908. Enjoy a trip on the glistening blue lake!
Operetta music effervesces happiness, cheer and a touch of romanticism! The loveliest arias and duets
from the era of the silver screen can be heard, where the landlady from the “White Horse Inn“ and her
waiter Leopold welcome their audience with a witty “gallop“ through this world-famous operetta. The
selections are performed by the Salzkammergut-Salonensemble and singers in the original venue of the
play. You are invited to an amusing evening comprised of the choicest of musical pieces.

The steepest steam cog railway in Austria has been running from St. Wolfgang to the Schafberg
mountain (1,783 m) since 1893. In 45 minutes, it climbs 1,190 metres to provide a breathtaking 360° view
over seven of the Salzkammergut lakes and the majestic mountains of the Alps.
Soaring waltzes, soothing salon pieces, marches, polkas and numbers from Richard Rodgers` ‘The
Sound of Music‘ are all stepping stones along a musical journey through Austria. The Salzkammergut
– Salonquintet warmly invites you to an atmospheric rendevous with J. Strauss, F. Lehár, R. Stolz and
many more Austrian masters of light entertainment. The traditional concerts have become a musical
trademark at Lake Wolfgangsee.

Do you know the special charm of a Vietnamese knee? Zithering typewriter keys of the nightingale, singing
walking sticks, bulging cheeks, flexible joints, limber tongues, seed capsules, goats? Or dead chickens? A
journey to distant peoples, their instruments, their music, their feelings. Askold zur Eck takes guests on a trip of
indescribable emotions, which lie slumbering in the world of music until their are awakened. More than 4000
instruments, over 1500 of which can be demonstrated.
Summer tobogganing is especially enjoyable for the young and old. After a gentle ascent with
magnificent views of Lake Wolfgang you can toboggan at high speed back down into the valley. Choice
of two runs.

‘My best melodies are inspired here‘. No less than 24 of Franz Lehár’s operettas are connected to Bad
Ischl. The Merry Widow, Paganini, The Land of Smiles, Der Zarewitsch and Giuditta are among Lehár’s
most well-known works.

The Mammoth Cave got its name from the massive size of the rooms and passages, 60km of which
have been explored. An almost one kilometre stretch of these passages is visited during the one-hour
guided tour. Deep in the heart of the cave, you will enter the world of cave researchers and adventurers
and hike through the gigantic passages featuring impressive rock cathedrals. Last but not least, the
extraordinary installations of the Linz University of Arts make this an unforgettable experience.
In 1734, Hallstatt miners discovered the body of a man, preserved by salt, deep inside the mountain.
A journey through the Salt Mines takes you from the beginning of the earth, through the Hallstatt
period to the modern day techniques for mining salt. Highlights of the tour are a 64m giant slide,
underground lake and ride on the mine railway. NEW: Bronze age cinema – set 400m underground
and showing Europe‘s oldest wooden steps.

A visit to the Koppenbrüller Cave provides insight into the underground water flow inside of the
Dachstein Mountains. Flood-proof paths allow for visits even in bad weather. From the Koppenrast
restaurant, a 15-minute walk along a trail leads to the cave entrance. The entrance is a karst spring
which after heavy rain or times of thaw, swells up with masses of water. The brooks inside the cave hold
water all the time.
Take a journey into the past: through the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, the Hallstatt period, the La Tène
period, the time of the Romans up to the modern era. The famous excavation area that gave an entire
epoch its name can be found in the high valley above Hallstatt.
The findings exhibited in the museum document the exquisite luxury and elite understanding of art during
this period and evidence of international trade relations.

Three spacious swimming pools provide a great swimming experience: a vital and fitness pool with
500 m2 of undisturbed swimming, a diving area with one-metre and three-metre diving towers, a 300 m2
adventure pool with a silly slide and a dizzying 60-metre-long spiral slide. The wading pool is part of
the landscape and can be easily seen by mothers, fathers or grandmas from the sunbathing area.

This museum, which is dedicated to the world-famous local narrow-gauge railway (1890-1957), was
opened in 1996 and is located in the last remaining engine shed. The numerous exhibits, including
various vehicles, engines and coaches, tell the story of this much acclaimed railway. The line ran from
Salzburg to Bad Ischl but was closed for economic reasons in 1957. In addition, there are two saloon
carriages which were used by the Emperor Franz Josef.
The fun begins with a short training session. Those more adept get it within a few seconds, others are
up and running after 10 minutes. Then you move off with your guide through the countryside. With
every metre covered, the fun factor increases. The initial looks of trepidation soon change into the
SEGWAY ‘Smiles‘. Requirements: weight limit 40-120 kg. Minimum age: 10 years.

The observatory at Gahberg, near Weyregg on Lake Attersee, lies at an altitude of 860 metres; it has
a fantastic panoramic view of the Höllengebirge Mountain Range to the south. Several observatory
buildings feature telescopes that offer views of the universe (moon, planets, shooting stars, galaxies,
constellations, photo exhibitions, astro-photography and more). An experience for the whole family – but
only in good weather.
Admire steam trains from an era long past and visit passenger and freight cars. As a special attraction

Lake Attersee is considered a unique domain of Gustav Klimt who holidayed in the region from
1900 to 1916. The picturesque area inspired the artist to create over 40 paintings, whose motifs
are often recognizable in the local landscape. With its cinema and Salzkammergut-Panorama, the
documentation centre presents a multimedia exhibition about Klimt during the ‘Vienna 1900‘ era and
information about Klimt‘s cherished location, Attersee. A visit to the Klimt Centre is an ideal starting
point for a hike along the Klimt-themed hiking trail.

Armoury of the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg and Local Heritage Museum. The museum documents
the historical importance of Ebenau (1585 - 1870) as a centre for the processing of iron, copper and, above
all, brass. The firearms produced in Ebenau for the Klett family (17th century) are particularly worth seeing.
An old-fashioned schoolroom has been installed on the upper floor. Numerous exhibits illustrate local rural
culture. All visitors have the chance to mint a coin to remind them of their visit.

An exciting excursion into the past is guaranteed for young and old alike. In the Open Air Museum
Hackenschmiede, visitors will discover through an impressive display the uses of water power 410
years ago. Three undershot waterwheels harness the flow of the Wimbach stream in order to power the
Hackenschmiede forge. During the blacksmith demonstration, spectators will experience this historical
handicraft firsthand – whoever has the strength and courage can even actively participate!
BMWs from almost 100 years are on display in the Motorcycle Museum in Vorchdorf. Ranging from
the R32 from 1923 through all the models manufactured to the current time. Also on display are rarities,
like some Puchs (including a rare four cylinder). 150 motorcycles and sidecars are arranged under the
mansard roof of a ‘Vierkanthof‘ farmhouse. The old motorcycle workshop with water-powered tools is an
additional attraction.

The Aignerhaus farm with its out buildings is a typical farm of the Attergau area. The museum features
regional farm and crafts objects of cultural value. The displays include: an open fireplace in the kitchen,
a loom, textiles, equipment used for washing, machines used for farming, many types of vehicles and
several exhibits regarding former craft trades. A bee house, granary and garden complete the farm.
Visiting Hellbrunn Palace with its famous trick fountains is a unique experience. Water sprays out from

visitors from all over the world. Special tip – guided evening tours in July and August at 19:00, 20:00 and
21:00. Admission includes: trick fountains with guided tour, palace with audio guide, entry to the local
