The plastination of Samba took 64,000 working hours, 4 tons of silicone, and 40,000 litres of acetone. The lessons of your biology textbook spring to life when you look at the inner structures of the brown bear, octopus, gorilla, shark, ostrich, and horse. The intriguing specimens on display reinforce the study of animal biology, physiology, zoology, and veterinary studies for visitors of all ages. Each animal houses its own universe. Gunther von Hagens‘ KÖRPERWELTEN der Tiere (BODY WORLDS of Animals) features 20 whole animal bodies and more than 100 detailed studies of organs and skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. This anatomical menagerie allows visitors an encounter, up close and personal, with the natural world’s most mysterious and revered species. Discover the universe within and learn what resides under the animal’s skin! Guided tours for groups Senckenberg Education Department offers guided tours for groups. More info at: www.senckenberg.de/museumspaedagogik.de. Book your tour by phone 069 7542-1357 on Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 to 12:00 am and 1:00 to 4:00 pm. For general inquiries, please call 069 7542-1414, Monday to Thursday, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Moments of wonder and comprehension. From experience to awareness. The exhibition allows a peek under the elephant’s skin. Its trunk with a network of 40,000 muscles is a feat of design excellence, as well as virtuosity. And who would have known that a giraffe uses its 50 centimetre long bluish tongue like a hand? The exhibition KÖRPERWELTEN der Tiere addresses both young and old visitors and increases their appreciation for life, nature, and for the threatened biodiversity.
