Welcome to Amber Valley
The Heart of Derbyshire
If you enjoy shopping, then you probably love a bargain. Here
in Amber Valley we are fortunate to have one of the widest
ranges of individual factory shop outlets anywhere in the
country. This trail leaflet is designed to help you find the
venues and gives details of the products sold.
For those in the know, factory shop outlets offer excellent value
for money. Often you are able to purchase items that are not
available elsewhere; such as samples of new products and
ranges, end of lines and seconds. Our leading manufacturers
include household names; Denby, David Nieper and John
Smedley and the product range is diverse.
Several companies offer the chance to see the production
processes involved which gives yet another reason to visit.
Some of the shops are located in historic buildings and the De
Bradelei complex at Belper and John Smedley at Lea Bridge
are both within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
There are numerous talented artists and craftspeople based in
Amber Valley. Some of those who have shops and studios are
listed within the leaflet, while the Tourist Information Centre
hosts a regular programme of exhibitions throughout the year.
Whilst in the area, why not call into one of the local market
towns - Alfreton, Belper, Heanor and Ripley. These all have a
range of individual businesses and High Street names. There
are a growing number of antique shops where you may find
unusual and specialist goods.
You will find plenty of places to eat, from cafes and restaurants
to specialist outlets. Look out for menus which showcase
recipes with locally-produced food.
The staff at the Tourist Information Centre in Ripley will always
be pleased to help with your queries. They can also give
details on events and accommodation.
Enjoy your visit.
