President’s Letter
Hello Fellow Pocono Painters,
First on the agenda, as most of you know, Nadine Lawless has stepped down from the
responsibilities of President, due to orders of her Dr. She has had an extremely stressful
time and needs to concentrate on her own issues. So, we all want to wish her the best as
she has been a GREAT President and we are all going to miss her very much! I don’t
think that I will be able to fit into her shoes, so please, all of you, grant me some slack
and be patient with me while the Board continues forward. We will all do our best and
gently remind us if we need to be reminded of something I am going to be leaning on all
of the membership for your support.
We do have elections coming up this fall, so not only do we need a nominating
committee, but we also need SOMEONE to step forward and take over the office of
President. I can not do it as I am already Co-President at Lehigh Valley DP and
President of MASCC. My plate is overly full, I am taking on this presidency to fulfill my
duties as a board member, but I cannot continue as a new President for 2015.
WE NEED SOMEONE TO STEP FORWARD TO TAKE OVER BEING PRESIDENT, PLEASE
VOLUNTEER. Let one of the board members know if you can take this over.
We are all looking forward to this month’s painting project with Janet Lewis and her
bracelets. It will be fun, and we haven’t painted animals in quite a long time! I, for one,
am looking forward to it. Thanks, Janet!
Well, I will see you all at the next meeting on July 25th!!

July’s Program
I am teaching the July class at Pocono Painters and I
wanted to clarify what I am teaching. (I am concerned
because several members that signed up for the class
purchased only one bangle) We are painting the two
bangles. We are going to start with the giraffe and
finish with the bird. If you only want to paint one;
realize that you will have some downtime. (please
always remember that you can paint on any surface
you desire!)
Remember to look at the clubs website to get the
directions and a picture. Also further on in the
newsletter
Please contact me if you would like to sign up/get
directions, and/or purchase the bangles. E-mail:

NOTICE ABOUT THE DELLA WETTERMAN SEMINAR.
Effective immediately Pocono Board has determined that the seminar with Della Wetterman
scheduled for Aug 22 and 23 has been CANCELLED due to low sign ups and some other
inconsistencies.
The Board is in the process of determining another seminar with a local teacher, possibly at the
same time or in Sept./Oct. We will keep you abreast of the developments.
Any checks that have been cashed from by Pocono Painters will be reimbursed to you or if the
checks have not been cashed they will be returned to you at the next meeting. If you have any
specific questions please call or see Eddiejo (570-778-9136). We are sorry for all this confusion, it
will be discussed at the July meeting.
Thank you,

From Joan Boyer >>> Hi, it's that time again. 2014 gourd fest. I'm taking 3 classes, if I can get good pictures I'll email them to you. Deb Short
& I are leaving tomorrow. It's in Lebanon fairgrounds this yr.
I'm doing a beaded gourd again this yr. different style. A gourd with mosaic using egg shell imbedded & carved with wood burner. Last day,
an all day class. A canteen gourd purse. Will be wood burning, using drill, dye it, paint it & line inside. Hope we can get it done.now that it's so
hot I sort of wished I wasn't doing a all day class.haha. >>> Some pics.

Dear Pocono Painters,
As we had discussed at previous Pocono Painters' meetings, we are trying to get the word out about our
organization. We talked about possibly having some kind of display at the West End Fair and we will have a
display at the Western Pocono Community Library in September-October.
But I need your help. Please consider loaning some of your painted artwork for these displays.
I would need for you to bring your items for the West End Fair display at the July 25 meeting. I'm hoping you
might also consider allowing me to use them for the library display as well. If you would want your items for just
the one and not the other, let me know. Your items can range from acrylics, to oils to watercolor or any other
medium used in painting.
Also, put on your creative thinking caps to come up with an idea for a poster to introduce ourselves and explain
who we are for the display. Of course, I think the poster should showcase our artistic talents so I'm hoping you
will submit possible designs. Please bring all your ideas to the June meeting.
Help spread the word about who Pocono Painters is and what we're all about.
Thank you,
Linda Koehler/Pocono Painter

The Decorative Painter, Issue No. 1, 2009
Painted by Patience Campbell
Adapted andTaught by Janet Lewis
Surface: Diy Bangles, 1 ¾ dome
I am teaching two of the designs. The Giraffe and the Pretty Boy bird. Individual palette will be given for each design.
Preparation: Sand, coat each bracelet by giving it a coat of sealer(or Gresso). Paint the inside surface BLACK. WHEN DRY, TRACE OR
SKETCH THE DESIGNS LIGHTLY ONTO THE BRACELET.(I FOUND IT EASIER TO CUT THE PATTERN OUT AND TRACE IT ON TO THE
BANGLE)*PLEASE REMEMBER THAT SINCE DELTA PAINT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE THAT YOU SHOULD PICK A BRAND YOU LIKE AND JUST
MATCH THE COLOR. ALSO, YOU MAY CHANGE BACKGROUND COLORS TO SUIT YOUR TASTE. I WILL PUT A “D” AFTER DELTA AND, A “A” AFTER
AMERICANA. SOME COLORS YOU CAN USE ANY BRAND.
GIRAFFE: PALETTE: ANTIQUE GOLD-D, ANTIQUE WHITE, BLACK, BURNT SIENNA, YELLOW, MILK CHOC.-A, DARK CHOC.-A, LT. FLESHA, AND WHITE.
BASECOAT: DO THE PREP AND THEN PAINT AROUND THE GIRAFFE’S HEAD AND REAR END WITH BLACK. PAINT THE GIRAFFE WITH ANTIQUE
GOLD AND A MIX OF WHITE.
FINISH PAINTING: ADD MORE WHITE TO THE HEAD AREA TO MAKE IT LIGHTER. DRY BRUSH SOME WHITE TO GIVE A HIGHLIGHT TO THE FACE.
USE THE MILK CHOC. TO BRING SOME SHADING (IN THE SHAPE OF A LETTER T) TO THE FACE. USE MILK CHOC. TO BASE THE HORNS. PUT A
TOUCH OF DARK CHOC. ON BOTH THE HORNS AND THE MIDDLE OF THE FACE. USE THIS SAME COLOR TO SHADE AROUND THE NOSTRILS AND
TO GIVE HER A SMILE LINE. PUT THIS SAME MIX TO THE EARS. *USE A DRY BRUSH TO ADD A TOUCH OF LT. FLESH TO THE CHEEKS AND EARS .
USE A LINER TO OUTLINE THE EYE AND PAINT THE PUPIL BLACK. PAINT THE IRIS MILK CHOC. (OR BURNT SIENNA) ADD A WHITE HIGHLIGHT TO
THE PUPIL. DON’T FORGET THE WHITE ON EITHER SIDE OF THE EYE!
USE MILK CHOC. TO ADD THE SPOTS. (I MADE MY SPOTS LESS EVEN THEN THE ORIGINAL PATTERN; YOUR CHOICE) SHADE WITH THE DK. CHOC.
PRETTY BOY:PALETTE: WHITE, BLACK, BURNT SIENNA, LAGUNA BLUE-D, TOPIC BAY GREEN-D, LT GREEN-A, TRUE RED-A, COUNTRY BLUE-A,
MARIGOLD-A, MULBERRY-D, AND ORANGE FOLK ART GLITTER(I WILL HAVE SOME OF THIS FOR EVERYONE) DO THE PREP AND THEN PAINT THE
BANGLE TOPIC BAY GREEN (OR COLOR OF YOUR CHOICE) BASECOAT THE LEAVES AND STEMS…LAGUNA BLUE-D (OR YOUR CHOICE) AND ADD
A TOUCH OF LT. GREEN. ---ONE STROK LEAVES CAN BE DONE. NOTE: I DID NOT USE ALL THE LEAVES THAT CAME WITH THE PATTERN…DO
WHAT YOU THINK LOOKS BEST!
FINISH PAINTING: PAINT THE TOP OF THE BIRD’S HEAD LAGUNA BLUE. USE THE LINER AND TOPIC BAY BLUE TO ADD THE LITTLE FEATHER
MARKINGS. PAINT THE SECTION BENEATH THE THROAT MULBERRY AND WORK SMALL, SHORT STROKES INTO THE MULBERRY WITH A LINER AND
WHITE.
PAINT THE PUPIL OF THE EYE BLACK (DON’T FORGET THE WHITE AT THE EDGES) AND THE BAND UNDERNEATH THE EYE BLACK. THE CIRCLE
AROUND THE EYE AND THE BEAK ARE BLACK + WHITE OUTLINED WITH BLACK. USE WHITE TO HIGHLIGHT THE PUPIL AND THE BEAK.
PAINT THE WING, BACK AND LOWER CHEST WITH MARIGOLD…MAKE A WASH OF TRUE RED AND COME BACK OVER PARTS OF THESE SECTIONS
TO GIVE A BRIGHTER RED TO THE BIRD.
THE BOTTOM OF THE BELLY IS LEFT MARIGOLD, HOWEVER THE BOTTOM IS PAINTED A MIX OF COUNTRY BLUE AND WHITE. COUNTRY BLUE IS
USE FOR SOME OF THE TAIL FEATHERS.
THE TIPS OF THE WINGS AND SOME OF THE TAIL FEATHERS ARE PAINTED BLUE AND WHITE.
