A few years back in one of our Brylor Semen Sales Directories, I penned one
line that I do believe needs to be restated. I urged all potential customers and believers
in the A.I. method of breeding their herds to keep their heads up and to be aware of
a problem I have with the major A.I. studs and their semen distributors in the field.
If you, or anyone you know, is considering ordering semen, ask your semen
distributor one simple question – “Have you actually seen this bull I am considering
using and will he improve my herd... especially in the feet department?”
I believe that too often the answer is going to be, “No, I haven’t seen him... but I
hear he’s a great one!”
Fellow Red Angus Breeders – I own a bolt in this Red Angus outfit!! I am aware
first hand of the strengths and especially of the shortfalls of our breed! I have
personally seen each and every one of these bulls, I own most of them and have
used every one of them in our own program (or, in the case of the Best Man calf, I
will be using him).
Every one of these bulls can offer you something to enhance your existing program and I can personally assure you that the feet have damned sure been inspected and passed my own personal demands on all these bulls in this book!!
