Giving Opportunities
SPRING appeal
Chapel Lighting Project Update
To date, we have not reached our fund-raising goal of $17,048
to install eight large pendant lights in the Shalom Chapel.
Many thanks to those who have already given to this
appeal. Your gift will help us provide excellent lighting for both
presenters and attendees. If you have not sent your 2011
Spring Appeal gift yet, it’s not too late to contribute. Gifts
for the Spring Appeal will be accepted through May 31.
Birdies for Charity Appeal
Bonus $ is added to your gift & you can win prizes!
The Need: Lower level hallway/
storeroom floor/flooring.
The estimated cost is $6,079.23. The
original floor (linoleum placed over a wood
sub-flooring) is badly in need of repair. The portion of the floor that will be
replaced leads from the kitchen to the
laundry room. An adjacent kitchen
storeroom is also included in the bid.
The Solution: Pledge 1 cent or more for
every “birdie” made during the 2011 John Deere Classic (or a specific
dollar amount can be pledged/sent).
Shalom receives 100% of every dollar pledged/
mailed. Additionally, Birdies for Charity provides up
to a 5% bonus
match to Shalom. Guess the number of birdies made during the
tournament for a chance to win a 2011 CHEVY CAMARO and over
100 other prizes.
To Participate: Send your check payable to “Birdies for Charity” (see enclosed envelope) with your guess for the number of birdies that
will be made in the 2011 John Deere Classic (to be held July 4-10, 2011
in Silvis, IL) to: Shalom Retreat Center, 1001 Davis St., Dubuque, IA
52001. All entries must be received by June 28.
WISH LIST: VHS/DVD Player
The VHS player on our AV cart doesn’t always work.
We would welcome the gift of $65 to purchase a new
VHS/DVD player. If you can assist us with this need,
please call Sr. Margaret Jungers at 563/582-3592.
Memorial & Tribute Gifts

a friend or a business associate for any special occasion – birthday,
anniversary, promotion or some particular accomplishment.

express sympathy at the moment and
remembrance in the future.

WE SAY THANKS . . .
“Sing to him, sing his praise, proclaim all
his wondrous deeds.” (1 Chronicles 16:8)
“It is with a humble heart that I thank those who
were able to contribute funding for my wish list. The
generosity of people never ceases to amaze me. All
of the items purchased have allowed us in the office
to offer better services to those come to Shalom.”
– Connie Wilgenbusch, Administrative
Assistant, Shalom Retreat Center

“Thanks to the generosity of Little Folks Trading
Post and their customers, Shalom Retreat Center
received a gift of $431 this winter. Shalom was
chosen as the Charity of the Month for December
2010 and by donating $1 to Shalom, customers
received 10% off their purchase. We are truly
grateful to everyone who supported this fundraiser.”

Introducing . . .
Sr. Marci Blum OSF
Sr. Marci Blum OSF will become administrator
of Shalom Retreat Center beginning August 1,
assuming the position held by Sr. Margaret
Jungers OSF since 2001.
“I warmly welcome Sr. Marci to Shalom,” notes Sr. Margaret Jungers. “She is superbly
qualified for this position through her educational background as well as her many years of experience in the field
of religious education, lay formation, spiritual direction and retreat
work. As a Franciscan, she will continue to support Franciscan values
and ideals. She will be an asset as Shalom moves into its future.”
Regarding her appointment, Sr. Marci said, “I look forward to the
Franciscan ministry at Shalom Retreat Center. It is an honor and
joy to continue the wonderful works of the retreat center’s directors,
Sr. Marie Therese who began the retreat center and Sr. Margaret
Jungers who has continued the retreat ministry. I know the directors
and staff at Shalom Retreat Center have touched many people in
their spiritual lives on sacred ground. In a spirit of humility and gratitude, I am happy to be with you all. To paraphrase St. Paul,
‘There with the grace of God go I’.”
