PREFACE
The location of the Port of Gdańsk at the intersection of Europe’s
major transportation routes makes it particularly predisposed to fulfil
the role of a distribution hub focusing on the Baltic Sea countries
as well as those in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. The
Port of Gdańsk is the key link in the Trans-European Corridor No. 6
which connects the Nordic countries with the Southern and Eastern
Europe. Its location advantages open up perspectives for continued
rapid growth of the Gdańsk port and favour the investment policy
implementation aimed at providing suitable conditions for modern
transport technologies, including Ro/Ro systems.
These investments can be exemplified by the Westerplatte Ferry
Terminal built in 2002 and suited to the handling of Ro/Ro vessels,
ferries and passenger ships.
The location of the Westerplatte Ferry Terminal in the close vicinity
of the 1000-year-old city of Gdańsk with its historic monuments and
in Pomerania that ranks among Poland’s most rapidly developing
regions in terms of economy, emphasizes the importance of the
terminal, especially to ferry and cruise operators.
This brochure has been designed with the thought of addressing all

LOKALIZACJA TERMINALU PROMOWEGO
WESTERPLATTE
Terminal Promowy Westerplatte położony jest w wewnętrznej części
Portu Gdańsk, wzdłuż Martwej Wisły, w odległości 1500 metrów
od wejścia do portu.
Akweny wodne portu są wolne od zalodzenia przez cały rok.
Duża zaleta Terminalu Promowego Westerplatte tkwi także
w jego bliskim usytuowaniu względem głównej sieci dróg krajowych
i międzynarodowych. Pozwala to operatorom na zminimalizowanie
czasu przewozu ładunków i daje możliwość szybkiego wyjazdu
z terminalu przez most wantowy z pominięciem centrum miasta
na główną drogę krajową prowadzącą do Warszawy (odległość
do Warszawy wynosi 345 km). Szacunkowy czas niezbędny
do pokonania odcinka drogi między terminalem a siecią dróg
krajowych wynosi od 10 do 15 minut (6,5 km).
Z uwagi na kluczowe znaczenie połączeń drogowych i kolejowych
portu z jego zapleczem, planowane są kolejne inwestycje
ukierunkowane na poprawę dostępu do portu.
Najważniejszymi projektami, które doprowadzą do jeszcze lepszego
skomunikowania portu z modernizowaną siecią transportową, w tym
autostradą A1, są: budowa dwutorowego mostu kolejowego nad
Martwą Wisłą oraz budowa Trasy Sucharskiego wraz z tunelem pod
Martwą Wisłą.

FERRY TERMINAL
The Westerplatte Ferry Terminal is situated in the inner part of the
Gdańsk port, along the Dead Vistula River, within a 1,500-metre
distance of the port entrance.
Port water regions remain ice-free year-round. Another major
advantage of the Westerplatte Ferry Terminal is a short distance of
the main national and international road network, which enables the
operators to cut down to minimum the cargo transportation time and
to swiftly exit the terminal via the suspension bridge, bypassing the
city centre, onto the main national road to Warsaw (with a distance
to Warsaw of 345 km).
The estimated time necessary to cover the distance from the terminal
to the national road network ranges from 10 to 15 minutes (6.5 km).
Due to the key significance of the national road and rail connections
between the port and its hinterland, further investments are planned
focusing on the improvement of access to the port. The most important
projects which are set to boost the communication between the port
and the modernized transportation network, of which A1 motorway,
include: the construction of a double-track railway bridge across the
Dead Vistula and the development of the Sucharski Route along with
the tunnel under the Dead Vistula.
