BACKGROUNDER
Canada’s beef cattle industry is holding the first event of its kind to bring together people engaged through all parts
of the beef supply chain: the Canadian Beef Industry Conference (CBIC). This conference is focused on building a new
level of grassroots interaction and developing relationships to drive progress based on shared interests in alignment
with the National Beef Strategy.
CBIC 2016 will be held August 9 – 11, 2016 at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino in Calgary, AB.
CBIC will feature speakers and sessions connecting the Canadian beef industry with a theme of ‘Putting it Together…’
This is a joint collaboration by the Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC), Canada Beef, the Canadian Beef Breeds
Council (CBBC) and the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA).

BCRC funds leading-edge research to advance the Canadian beef industry and manages Canada’s Beef Cattle Industry Science Cluster.
Canada Beef is the cattle producer-funded and run organization responsible for domestic and international market development that works to foster loyalty to the Canadian beef brand.
CBBC provides a unified voice in support of purebred genetics within the Canadian beef cattle industry to ensure continuity, growth and prosperity of the Canadian purebred cattle sector.
CCA is the national voice of Canada’s 68,500 beef farms and feedlots. Founded and led by producers, CCA works to address issues that concern Canada’s beef producers.
Everyone involved in the beef industry is encouraged to attend, from the ranchers to the retailers. More than 50%
of the audience is expected to be primary beef cattle producers. The strength of this conference is built through the
diverse parts of our industry coming together and finding common interests that will drive opportunities.
The keynote speaker is Arlene Dickinson, entrepreneur, consultant and former Dragon’s Den star. The agenda
includes speakers on each of the National Beef Strategy’s four pillars: connectivity, productivity, beef demand and
competitiveness, along with educational presentations and interactive workshops on new developments, market and
brand opportunities and production innovations.
Full registration includes opening night (Tuesday) reception, and Wednesday night banquet and entertainment,
featuring the band Ain’t No Rodeo. Extra tickets are available for purchase for both of these evening events. Additional
options for purchase include a pre-conference tour (Monday) hosted by Alberta Beef Producers, the Canadian
Cattlemen’s Foundation Classic Golf Tournament on Tuesday, and a Thursday evening Heritage Park supper.
