Any parents interested in sending their
preschoolers to a Sunday morning preschool
program at the Synagogue starting in the Fall
when Religious school resumes? It would be on
Sundays from 9:30-11:30 am, while Religious
school is meeting. If we have a critical number of
enrollees (probably at least 8) then we will set it
up, with tuition being about £250.00 for the
whole year. Interested parents should contact
Mira Slobody through the synagogue office, and
we will contact interested members when we
have further information this Summer.

Plans for the simultanous high holiday services are being put into motion by
Rabbi Wiederhorn and Ed Goldman. Rabbi Wiederhorn and Bob Fisher will
conduct services in the sanctuary at Midbar Kodesh Temple. A Junior
Congregation will be available for school aged children and babysitting will
be available for the younger children.
Rabbinic Intern Aaron Schonbrun and cantorial soloist Philip Goldstein
(not Midbar's Philip Goldstein, the other one), will work together with Dr.
Goldman to conduct services to be held at the Presbyterian Church located at
Wigwam and Valle Verde. The "Valle Verde Service" will be a different format
than offered to our congregation in the past, will be more musical in nature
and will include the use of a piano or keyboard. All services will be in
keeping with the guidelines of United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
Non-member tickets to the "Valle Verde Service" will be sold to the
general public for £200 per ticket. Midbar members who wish to purchase
tickets for their family members who are not members of Midbar Kodesh
Temple, will be able to order tickets for £100. There is no charge to Midbar
members for any high holiday services, since that is included in the dues
package. Members may opt to attend the Valle Verde service or services at
Midbar Kodesh Temple on Paseo Verde.
Members must request tickets by using a form to be provided to them in
July. All members must have 3/4 of their dues paid by August 15th to be
eligible to order tickets for either facility.

Yeladim Preschool at Midbar Kodesh Temple
We have been so busy getting to the end of the "school" year and it's been a wild ride! Our
Children's Fashion Show on May 2nd was a huge success as a fundraiser and such a fun evening
for our preschool participants and the parents and "glowing" grandparents in the audience. Our
End of the Year Show, KINDERELLA, was also an evening to remember. We showed a
memory video of the children, had a surprise fill-in for the main character, and then had a
graduation processional of our thirteen children in the pre-k class. There wasn't a dry eye in the
crowd. Our version of "Who I Am" by Jessica Andrews really brought the house down. We will
definitely miss our Class of 2001. In fact, one of our graduate's mother is working diligently to
try to get us approved for a kindergarten next year. We have nine children ready to come;
unfortunately, the process is very extensive.
BUT...Yeladim Preschool will now officially become the first YEAR-ROUND Jewish
preschool in the Las Vegas/Henderson area. In order to accommodate our parents who would
not benefit from a camp schedule, we will continue our current preschool hours throughout the
summer. Parents of preschoolers may chose half or full days, one-five days/week. The summer
session will be a little less academic-we call it "camp-mode." There will be a lot of games, art,
music, Judaica, sports, and water play. We have already gotten a great reaction from our
parents.
AND...YES there will also be a SUMMER CAMP for children K-6th grade. This program
will start JUNE 11th and run through AUGUST 17th (possibly through August 24th). We have an
awesome staff of college athletes and high school assistants. It will be a sports-based camp with
rotating activities of sports (golf, tennis, cheerleading, dance, and baseball) mixed in with music,
art, Judaica, ice skating, and water play. We will swim twice/week and have a field trip
once/week. (All trips are optional). The hours are 9-3 with extended care available at $5/hour,
8am-6pm. Sign up weekly at $ 150/week or monthly for $500 (a savings of $ 100). There is a
small registration fee of $25.00. We are taking sign-ups now. A brochure is being promised.
Our Amy Spector Memorial Library is still taking shape and hopefully will be completed for
story hours during the summer. We are excited that Riki Wiederhorn has offered to bring our
preschoolers into the library for special story sessions. Besides formulating a Mommy, Daddy,
and Me program at Yeladim, Riki has volunteered to take an active part in enriching our
preschooler's Jewish education. We are very lucky to have the rabbi and his wife involved in
our preschool. Such great things are in store for next year!!
Our "official" preschool year, in fact, will start the Tuesday after Labor Day (Sept. 4™ ). We
are offering 5-day programs with 2 and 3 day classes available for the younger ages. We are
thrilled to be getting such a great response for next year. You may currently register your child
with a $75 registration fee to "save the spot." A brochure is coming for that, also.
As you can see, Yeladim is bursting with growth and energy. We are thrilled that we have
become such an integral part of the Midbar Kodesh family. Though our strength is in our
enthusiasm, our weakness is in our inability to produce brochures of our program. Everything in
time. We can assure you...it's all good. Call Karen at 458-3555 to answer any questions or for
registration information.
