The 2006 Car Show season get’s off to a great
start! The lot was slammed with about 100 cars!
A Word From the President
To my Buick Family,
I just wanted to thank all of you for being
part of the LSPBC this year. We had a little
bit of a slow start because of the rain out at
Temple, however; we hope to have a rain
date for this event toward the end of the
year. The first LSPBC race at Redline was a
lot of fun for all who showed up. I think we had about 19
cars show up to race. Keep up the good work scoring
those Buick points. Additionally, the first car show was a
huge success at our new location. This is in spite of all the
obstacles we have had to deal with. We had over 75 entries and about 100 cars in the parking lot! It was pretty
cool having the lot totally full including the fire lanes! We
parked everywhere we possibly could find a space. The
turnout for the Buicks was the best I have ever seen in a
long time. We need to keep it up and hopefully LSPBC and
Chucks can both benefit from this new location. We had
several people diligently helping out at the show as well.
Even they mentioned that they did not realize that there
was so much work in managing the show. Please let’s all
step up and show our support to lend a hand at the shows
whenever possible. For those of you going to Bowling
Green, I hope you have a safe trip and that all goes well. I
will see you there, and; I know that I will be having a lot of
fun at this event. It is as good as it gets!

A Word From the Vice President
Brand X Bash 2006
Well as most of you know by now, the
event was rained out again. We did have
lot’s of food and fellowship though. We had
about 20-30 diehards show up, and; there
were a lot of Buick parts changing hands.
Even though we didn’t get to race, I think
everyone had a good time. We will try and reschedule this
race for either June or September. Stay tuned!

The 2006 Autorama Show
The 2006 Dallas Autorama was a big success for our club.
With six club member’s vehicles present, we had our biggest display to date! Jayson Pruitt, brought out his very rare
Riviera Turbo car. I heard a lot of people passing by talking
about it saying they either knew the car well and hadn't
seen one in years, or; "Wow I didn't know they made a
Turbo Riviera"! Morgan Farrington brought out his very nice
83 Riviera Convertible. It was another head turner for our
group. The Riviera's really seemed to gather a lot of attention. Way to go guys! Denise Hosack entered her '00 TA
Convertible in the show with a very special rear license
plate. It was a picture of both her convertible Buicks! It was
sweeeeeet! Jack Laswell had his outstanding 86 Grand
National there as well. This car is one of the nicest GN's
anywhere, bar none. There was a rumor that a GN won the
Burnout contest on Sunday afternoon, but; I never saw
Jack's car move. (hehehehehehe) But no, for real, there
were several folks that stopped by to ask about the club.
Some had brought their GN out and one did actually win
the burnout contest. That was just to cool! Fellow member
Victor Segovia brought out his beautiful and rare, blue two
tone 87 Turbo T Limited. This car is also a show winner at
Bowling Green. Way to go Vic! I saw a few people scratching their heads on this car. I guess they were wondering if it
was a GN? Hey Vic, what's a Grand National? And last but
not least, I had my 72 GS Clone in the show to round out
our display. Maybe I'll take the GN next year? Thanks to all
of the members who came out to support the club. Let's do
it again next year.

“A Beautiful Day to Start the Race Season” - By Rob Downey
After a long and restful winter (for the car, not for me) it was time to start another year of the
LSPBC racing season. The first race was on April 8th. Weather wise, it could not have been better with
temperatures in the 70’s, low humidity, and light wind. The turnout was very respectable as well. Nineteen cars signed up to race in our event. If you were not there, then you are already going to be playing
catch up the rest of the year, so you better make it next month!
It was great to see some new faces and how the existing member cars’ had changed over the winter in both appearance and performance. As the evening progressed, the adrenaline began to flow as
race time neared. Who else would make it to the event? Oh look, Bob doesn’t have his car here.
Where’s David Ellis? Hey who’s this new guy with this fast “T”? How is Rick going to do this year? How
am I going to do this year? …that answer came quickly.
After a few practice runs, I knew that the new convertor I put in over the winter was going to do its
job. I was getting more consistent 60’ times as just about every launch was the same. I was very happy,
at least for now. Finally the time came to line ‘em up and let the eliminations begin. Danny and I were the
first to stage. Danny’s dial-in was exactly one tenth lower than mine, so I would have a tenth of a second
head start. We staged and the lights dropped. My poor reaction time had me rowing to catch up right off
the bat. I was gaining quickly at the end, and I could not tell who actually crossed the finish line first. It
was that close. As it turned out, I was 2 hundredth too slow. I was out in the first round. It was one very
good race and Danny was glad to be back in the races after missing several at the end of last year.
Patrick Smith also returned to the racing scene this season after being out all last season. He
showed up in his wife’s brand new GTO that is of course black, so it fits in. We’ll have to see how often
his wife races it now. Patrick was matched up against Bob in his “fill in” Grand Prix while his GN is being
repaired. Patrick ended up putting Bob out as well so that set the new stage this year. All of last year’s
top finishers were either out in the first round or did not show.
Rick’s car was up and running strong even with a weak fuel supply. He advanced on to the next
round as did Dave Newton in his ‘72 GS. Dave Whitten’s stock block “T” was running some amazing
times was well and advanced to the next round. Scott Jorrey, Carl Brimer, David Lewis, and Kyle Faulkner also all advanced to the next round. So congratulations to all of those with their first race and first win
of the season in the first round!! At the end of the evening your winners were, 1st place Scott Jorrey, 2nd
place Rick Kinworthy, 3rd place Kyle Faulkner, and 4th place to Dave Whitten.
I Hope to see everyone at the next event and keep those cars running strong. Now go smoke some
crustangs for next time!

Congratulations to the winners! We brought in 19 cars through
the gates, with 18 cars racing in the brackets. I was hoping for
that 20 car mark! We were missing a few cars. It could have
easily been 22-23 cars. But it was still a great turnout none the
less!
Do we need more V8 cars? Didn't Buick make a performance
car back in the 60's & '70's? Come on guys where are the GS
cars? We had 15 Buicks, 3 Pontiacs (1 Buick powered) & 1 fast
Camaro.
Unfortunately, there were two breaks. Cody Copeland, in his
very fast and beautiful 87, T blew a head gasket. Tim Winn (aka
J. Cotton) in his awesome orange 85 T-Type had a lifter problem. Hope you get 'em back soon guys. Good luck!!

As most of you know by now, my GN is getting new paint
and body work done. The work is being performed by Master AutoBody in Dallas. The owner, Ronnie, is a good
friend of mine. I purchased this car back in 1996 from a
Plano dealership for the poultry sum of $8500.00. Try and
buy a decent GN for that price now days! Well 10 years
and about 20K miles later it is finally getting what it deserves, a fresh paint job. There is really not much on this
car that hasn't been redone at one time or another. Thanks
goes to the help of a lot of club members, especially Jack
(Thanks Jack) Laswell. I should have the car back on the
road soon. Maybe by the time you read this? This car was
almost a never was. Back in 1996 I was searching for a
67GS to purchase. I found one that a local BCA member
had for sale, but; was unable to reach him for several
weeks due to his work. I had only ever owned '70 Buicks,
and I had several since 1981. That is how I started with the
Buicks. I loved the 67, but; it just wasn't to be. I was cruising the local paper and found an ad for the GN and decided
to go and take a look. Up to this point the closest I had
been to a GN was passing by Ken Pruitt Buick everyday in
my 72GS. I was gazing at the sea of black lined up in front
of the dealership, but; I just couldn't afford one back then.
So, I went over to the dealership for a test drive, got the car
out on Hwy 75 and nailed it. Man what a rush! It pinned
me back in the seat, and; from that point on, I knew I had to
have this car. The rest as they say is history! See you the
next event.
