Prize Money can be paid by cash (limited amount), check, wire or Merrill Lynch. TAX All prize money is subject to a 15% withholding tax. This applies to all players non-residents of France, regardless of their nationality and country of residence. We remind you that this 15% withholding tax, retained by the FFT and paid to the tax authorities on your behalf, does not exempt you from declaring your French earnings to the French non-residents tax authority, and will be deducted from the tax due on your French income. You will get more information upon request. According to the tax treaties signed by France, the tax paid in France regarding prize monies is generally allowed as a credit against the tax possibly due on the same earnings in the country of residence. USA : Deduction of the 15% withholding tax is systematically operated on all amounts paid to sportsmen resident in the USA. If the total amount, including the tax deducted at source, earned in France during the fiscal year does not exceed 10,000 US$, a request for reimbursement should be forwarded by those concerned, directly or by intermediary of the tax debtor in France, to the “Centre des impôts des non–résidents, 10 rue du Centre 93465 Noisy-le-Grand (France). _PG_2013_P_001_100 V9.indd 79 Players’ guide 2013 | 79 02/05/13 09 PRIZE MONEY BREAKDOWN TOTAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 (€) MEN’S EVENT 10 104 000 Men’s Singles 7 984 000 Men’s Doubles 1 640 000 Men’s Qualifying 480 000 WOMEN’S EVENT* 9 984 000 Women’s Singles 7 984 000 Women’s Doubles 1 640 000 Women’s Qualifying 360 000 MIXED DOUBLES EVENT 375 000 TROPHEE DES LEGENDES EVENT 431 000 Women’s Doubles 139 000 Men’s Doubles - Clint introduces Kyle to the works of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich...and Kyle decides to make jazz his life. He practises his instruments (bass and upright bass) incessantly until he builds up an excellent reputation. Between pure jazz, rhythmic electro and lively funk, Kyle’s music is never boring – it’s invigorating. The musicians around him have nothing to do with it. With his new album, he proves once and for all to harsh critics that he is more than just Clint Eastwood’s son. He is well on his way. 28 May: Baptiste Trotignon Trio with Monica Passos Concert: 21.00 Admission: 25/22 € Baptiste Trotignon – piano; Monica Passos; Thomas Bramerie – upright bass; Minino Garay – drums, percussions Considered by Martial Solal to be one of the most brilliant pianists of his generation, 37-year-old Baptiste Trotignon has a collection of trophies and has never put a wrong foot in the French jazz world. Whether on his own, as part of a trio or of a quartet, each of his albums has been a success. After his collaborations with Aldo Romano 107 | Roland-Garros 2013 ersGuide2013_p101-174.indd 107 Roland-Garros 2013 | 107 02/05/13 12 JAZZ and Stefano Di Battista, in just a few short years Baptiste Trotignon went from being the best young French pianist to being a force to be reckoned with in jazz today. His involvement in cinema dates back to the Alain Corneau movie “The New World”, in which he plays the role of a young pianist. This time around, Baptiste pays tribute to legendary composers of film scores, from Lalo Schiffrin and Bacharach, to Henry Mancini and Ennio Morricone. 29 May: René Urtreger “All-Stars” Quintet featuring Eric Le Lann & Olivier Temime Tribute to “Elevator to the Gallows”... Concert: 21.00. Admission: 25/22 € René Urtreger – piano; Eric Le Lann – trumpet; Olivier Temime – tenor sax; Yves Torchinsky – upright bass; Eric Dervieu – drums In the jazz world, he is known as “King René” – a reference to the 14th century Count of Provence who preferred the thriving humanities and the company of witty individuals to the zeal for war and the company of noblemen. René Urtreger is a bit like that – modest in his remarks, simple in his manners, and discreet about his achievements/ exploits. And yet, he has rubbed shoulders with the stars and has lived a life well worth writing about. Introduced on the Blue Note scene in Paris at the age of 18 to accompany saxophonist Don Byas... Official pianist of Miles Davis when he used to play on the Rive Gauche (it is René we hear in the original soundtrack of ‘Elevator to the Gallows’)... Last accompanist of Lester Young in the studio; partner of Bobby Jaspar and Barney Wilen, recording with Lionel Hampton and Chet Baker... René Urtreger is one of these European musicians who, without even knowing it, created the sound of an era and became one of the best jazz players on the old continent. Film scores, and above all, touring with true jazz masters such as Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Konitz, Johnny Griffin, Sonny Rollins and Stan Getz...Need we say more? Anchored in a true tradition, deeply knowledgeable as a result of constantly listening to the music invented by Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell, forever known for bebop...above all, this pianist loves to get to the point, not to kid himself, and to avoid the trap of easy enthusiasm and crazy fusions. He has sometimes paid the price for wanting to be, first and foremost, a jazzman and nothing else. 108 | Roland-Garros Roland-Garros 2013 2013 ersGuide2013_p101-174.indd 108 02/05/13 12 30 May: Eric Serra “RXRA” plays his film songs (‘The Big Blue’, ‘Nikita’, ‘James Bond’, ‘Subway’...) The atmosphere in small clubs, risky encounters and the proximity to the public have all made this Jaco Pastorius enthusiast eager to return to us. He is expected to perform his new music as well as jazz versions of the pieces that made him successful: ‘The Big Blue’, ‘Subway’, ‘James Bond’, ‘The Fifth Element’... On the occasion of this anniversary, the French Tennis Federation has decided to honor the man who, fifteen years later, would give his name to the stadium at the Porte d’Auteuil. 2013 has thus become the year honoring Roland Garros. Among the highlights in regard to this World War I hero, there will be an exceptional exhibition, “I… Roland Garros”, held starting in May at the Museum of the French Tennis Federation. The public will discover the incredible life of this exceptional pilot, through iconography, personal souvenirs and articles from the press… And above all, during the French Open, spectators will be able to view a model of the mythical Morane-Saulnier Type H plane that Roland Garros flew during his amazing exploit.
