WALLER WEEKLY NEWS 05 FEBRuARY 2016
Waller weekly news
05 february 2016
Start Wondering.
Some very exciting gallopers from the stable graced the winners circle this week with six in total taking this season’s
total wins to 149 across the country including 115 at metro level to be clearly the most successful stable in the country
with $15,110,670 in prize-money amassed by our horses thus far.
Start Wondering again showed why the team feel he has what it takes to go all the way to the top with his impressive
Rosehill win while All Cerise has really hit her straps recording her third win on the trot. Canterbury winners Springbok
Flyer and Hembrook both look exciting prospects for the future as they work their way through the grades as does
Kembla maiden winner Baroota. It was also heartening to see the talented enigma Bascule get the bob in at Sandown on
Wednesday.
The sales season continues over the next week this time with Inglis’s Classic sale at Randwick starting on the 6th and
running until the 8th of February. This sale has been a successful one for the stable with value purchases there including
Triple Honour and The Verminator. Get in touch with Liam if you’re interested in any of our purchases at the sale.
We wish you all safe racing and the very best of luck over the next week!

CHRIS WALLER RACING - WINNERS THIS WEEK
start wondering
5yo G Eighth Wonder - Roseanbar by Al Akbar
This talented Kiwi bred galloper made it three wins
from just four starts this side of the Tasman when
winning at Rosehill on Saturday over 1500m.
Relishing in the heavy track conditions this son of
little known NZ sire ‘Eighth Wonder’ was given a
patient ride by Hugh Bowman who settled him at
the rear of the small field.
Once they moved into the straight Start
Wondering’s stablemate Marenostro was making
the best of his way home and had all but Bowman’s
mount in trouble. Once given the go-ahead Start
Wondering moved up stylishly and sprinted past a
gallant Marenostro to score an impressive victory.
ALL CERISE
5yo M Redoute’s Choice - Trick Taker by Capote
All Cerise has returned to winning ways with
a bang and continued her rich run of form on
Saturday when she scored at Flemington over
1600m. This victory made it three wins on the
bounce for the Kepitis family’s daughter of
Redoute’s Choice.
Ben Melham was in the saddle on Saturday and
he produced an astute front running ride, leading
from the outset and plotting a wide course into
the straight towards what he regarded as quicker
ground out wide. This proved a wise move as All
Cerise kept going strongly to score comfortably.
hembrook
3yo F Fastnet Rock - Flamingo Guitar
This well bred daughter of Fastnet Rock recorded
that all important maiden victory at Canterbury on
Wednesday over 1550m. Brenton Avdulla was in
the saddle and he produced a brilliant ride to help
secure the win.
Settling his mount towards the rear early, Avdulla
chose to thread a daring path up against the rails
into the straight.
This proved to be a winning move as Hembrook got
the split close to home and sprinted impressively
to score a narrow but convincing win. This will no
doubt give her plenty of confidence and she can
hopefully build on this victory in the future.

CHRIS WALLER RACING - WINNERS THIS WEEK
springbok flyer
5yo G Le Havre - Serpina by Grand Lodge
After his rather luckless second at his previous start this
imported galloper gained some compensation at Canterbury on
Wednesday over the 2700m trip.
James McDonald took the mount and he produced a nononsense ride dictating the pace throughout on this son of Le
Havre (Noverre). McDonald had his mount rolling before the
turn and kicked clear on the final bend to score a comprehensive
victory from stablemate Ashkannd who stayed on well to take
the runner up position. Springbok Flyer was strong through the
line and looks to possess plenty of stamina which makes him an
exciting staying prospect for his ownership group.
baroota
3yo G Showcasing - Centree by Centaine
New Zealand bred winners were certainly to the fore this week
and Baroota was another Kiwi bred winner scoring at Kembla on
debut on Tuesday over 1200m. The son of Showcasing was ridden
by Hugh Bowman and with the field depleted by scratchings
down to three starters, Bowman elected to bide his time in third
place before taking over inside the final furlong and scoring with
ease. This was an impressive race-day introduction for Baroota
who should give his large ownership group headed by Spicer
Thoroughbreds plenty of fun in the future.
bascule
4yo G Thorn Park - Alberton Princess by Golan
Bascule benefitted from a vintage Craig Williams ride when winning at Sandown on Wednesday over 1400m. The NZ
bred son of the sadly deceased sire Thorn Park relished the soft track conditions to score narrowly having travelled
strongly throughout in mid-division. Williams produced him with just over a furlong left to run and he fought on
strongly to come out just on top in a three-way photo finish. This was a fourth career victory for this talented gelding and
hopefully he can now add to this record in the coming months.

insights into our runners this weekend!
Top mare Royal Descent retired
Royal Descent, a mainstay of trainer Chris Waller’s formidable team of Group
One stars, has been retired.
The winner of five races and more than $2.7 million in prize money, Royal
Descent suffered a minor tendon injury while being prepared for the Sydney
autumn carnival.
“A decision was made to retire her immediately as opposed to giving her a
spell and preparing her for a campaign in the spring,” Waller said.
Owner Gerry Harvey will send the ATC Australian Oaks winner to New
Zealand to be mated with emerging sire Swiss Ace.
Royal Descent posted one of Australian racing’s most emphatic Group One
wins when she claimed the 2013 Oaks at Randwick by 10 lengths from Dear
Demi, the VRC Oaks winner raced by Harvey’s close friend John Singleton.
It was the first of her 18 Group One starts and she was placed another eight
times at racing’s top level, including narrow defeats in the Doncaster Mile and
Epsom Handicap.
Royal Descent
and her adoring
strapper Glenn
Barnes.
She bows out of racing after finishing down the course in the Myer Stakes during a spring carnival in which she won the Warwick
Stakes and was narrowly beaten by stablemate Preferment in the Group One Turnbull Stakes.
Being by champion sire Redoute’s Choice who as a broodmare sire has produced the stable’s star colts Zoustar and Sacred Falls
among his Group One winners in that role, we can’t wait to see what Royal Descent produces at stud and will follow this next phase
keenly.
