RHBC recognizes our high school and college graduates riverlandhills.org PAGE 2 JUNE 2009 ADVICE FROM SUCCESSFUL DADS by Dr. Ed Carney, Senior Pastor HE HAD COME TO ASK for his daughter’s hand in marriage. The prospective father-in-law asked, "Young man, can you support a family?" The nervous and surprised groom-to-be answered "Well, no, sir. I was just planning to support your daughter. The rest of you will have to fend for yourselves!" I remember “that day” when I asked Susan’s dad for his permission to marry his daughter. He had some questions too, but I hope my answers were better (I don’t remember, I was nervous too). He certainly gave me some brief but profound advice that I’ve followed through the years. Discover Truth For Yourself With Kay Arthur founder of Precept Ministries International October 16 - 17 Dr. Ed Carney Here are some “good words” collected over the years from successful Dads. Friday evening 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call the church office at 772-3227 to learn more. summer missions opportunity Paint the Town Greenville, SC 1) Raise them so you can like them. As they wind their way across Australia, they’ll discover that no matter where they go or what they do in life – it all comes back to Jesus! Vacation Bible School begins Monday, June 15 through Friday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to noon for children born before September 1, 2004 through those who have completed 5th grade. Register online now at riverlandhills.org Fight Like A Girl Grades 6 - 12, Friday, June 19. 5:00 p.m. – Saturday, June 20, 8:00 a.m. Cost: $15 (covers t-shirt, supper, and breakfast) Meet in the Attic to begin this fun-filled night. We will be hosting the self-defense session in the Gym, with a sleepover in The Attic to follow! Money and registration reserves your spot. Registration forms will be available at YBF or in the Church Office. Sign up by Monday, June 15. Grades 6 – 9, bring a 2-liter drink to share. Grades 10 -12, bring a salty or sweet snack to share. Every year in our country, almost 400,000 women are raped and/or abused. If you are a woman/girl, you are at risk. This self-defense session will reduce that risk, and it will enable you to be prepared, trained, and aware of what to do in an attack. Dr. Carney, a black belt in Gojuru and Kempo Karate, has done much research on self-defense and will be leading this session with his pupils to provide an effective, fun, and empowering session for girls of all ages. This session will give women the power to take control of their circumstances and teach them what to do and say in times of crisis. Registration Form I understand that a serious topic will be discussed, therefore I permit my daughter ________________________ to attend the sleepover and self-defense session on June 19 -20.
