Did you know that exercise makes you happy? A simple 30
minute workout can change a bad day into a good day.
Usually, a far more productive day. So why aren’t more
people doing it?
First, what is it about exercise that makes us feel better?
When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called
endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in
your brain that reduce your perception of pain.
Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar
to that of morphine. For example, the feeling that follows
a run or workout is often described as “euphoric.” That
feeling, known as a “runner’s high,” can be accompanied
by a positive and energizing outlook on life.
So imagine starting your day that way. After setting your
alarm clock one hour earlier, and with gym bag ready
to go, you’re out the door and on your way to your early
morning kettlebell class. After a somewhat challenging but
successful class and feeling completely exhilirated, you
grab a shower and you’re on your way to start your busy
day. This simple 30 minute morning workout can help keep
your mind sharp and your mood merry as you navigate
through your day.
Or, upon hearing your alarm clock do you grimace, think
about all the reasons you cannot possibly squeeze that
workout into your schedule today and hit the snooze
button? Usually, if this is the case, the decision not to workout
will haunt you for the rest of the day. So here are some tips
to help you get out of bed and make exercise a vital part
of your life.
When we try to start exercising, we think of all the excuses
for not doing it and all the things that have gotten in the
way before. Getting fit starts to seem overwhelming. And
that makes it feel stressful. Before long, we don’t want to
do it anymore. What we need to do is find our personal
motivation to get moving. Is it weight loss? Health?
Depression? Setting an example for our children?
Set realistice goals when it comes to exercise. 30 minutes a
day, 3 - 4 days a week at first can seem overwhelming so
start on a smaller scale and work up to it. Once you start to
achieve your small goals you will more than likely want to
increase your time or intensity as you begin to build some
confidence and gain strength.
Don’t always think of it as exercise. You are surrounded by
opportunity to be more active so choose activities that you
enjoy. Whether it is running, weight lifting, exercise classes,
yoga or walking your dog. You are more likely to do it if you
enjoy it.
Take the time to plan your exersice into your weekly schedule.
Seems like the number one excuse for not exercising these
days is that everyone is so ‘crazy busy’! If I had a quarter for
everytime I heard that one! Sit down at the start of the week
and set aside some time for yourself. I guarantee you will be
a lot happier and more energetic if you do. You are more
likely not to get those workouts in if they are not scheduled.
Sometimes, with the best planning we find that our workout
time has been pushed aside for something more pressing.
We naturally think of this as failure and start to associate
exercise with failure. This is when we need to do an attitude
adjustment and remind ourselves that sometimes the best
laid plans don’t always workout and tomorrow is a new day.
Not sure where to begin? Drop by Towne Fitness. We are
24 hour access facility right here in town. We are staffed 6
days a week and offer a wide variety of exercise classes
including; bootcamp, TRX, kettlebell and LeBarre. All levels
of fitness are welcome. What are you waiting for? It may be
one of the best decisions you make today.

POLICY INFORMATION FOR CDRC PROGRAMS
Non-Funding Resident Policy – All programs are rated for residents of funding
municipalities-Town of Shelburne, Town of Mono, Township of Amaranth and
Township of Melancthon. A non-resident is defined as anyone who does not
pay property taxes directly to anyone of the previously mentioned funding municipalities. The programs offered by the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex
are subsidized by municipal taxes. In order to keep the cost as low as possible
for residents, who already contribute to the municipal tax base, a user fee, of
$12.00 per participant, will be added to the registration costs for non-residents.
The CDRC reserves the right to request proof of residency.
Pro-rating of Program Fees – CDRC does NOT pro-rate fees for late registration
of programs.
HST – HST is included in all pricing shown unless specified and is only charged on
programs for youth 14 years of age and older and adults.
NSF Cheques – The CDRC charges an administration fee of $15.00 for each NSF
cheque received.
Waiting Lists – Once a class is filled, registrants will be placed on a waiting list
in the order that the registration is received. It is always recommended to go
on a waiting list as we may expand the class size or create a new time slot to
accommodate wait lists.
Receipts –A receipt will be issued at registration for any CDRC program. If your
receipt is misplaced there will be a cost of $5 for any reprint of tax receipts, per
session/per activity.
Photographs/Video – All program participants MUST have a signed waiver for
photography. Photographic/video equipment (including Personal Digital Assistants and Cellular Phones) are not allowed in changerooms, washrooms or in
program spaces. Taking photos or videos of participants during programs is
not permitted. Participants will be asked for written permission to have photographs taken by the media or Town staff for promotional purposes
Class/Program Postponement/Cancellations – The CDRC may cancel any class/
program that fails to meet minimum registration numbers one week prior to the
start date of the program. Some class/program times may change due to registration numbers. Participants will be offered a full refund or transfer to another
class/program if available. The CDRC reserves the right to withdraw, postpone,
cancel or combine classes/programs or to limit/increase registration. Cancellations will be posted on Facebook.
Transfers – Transfers from one class/program to another are based on availability within the same session. Transfers will not be permitted after the second
lesson of the program.
Refunds – All refunds are subject to an administration fee. Requests for refunds
must be received by the CDRC administration department prior to the end of the
second class. Requests for refunds after the second class will only be granted with
a doctor’s note. Refunds will be calculated on a pro-rated basis from the time the
CDRC administration department is notified regardless of the date the registrant
stopped attending classes. No refunds due to weather conditions or pool fouling.
Admission Standards for Public Swims – Children under 9 years of age must
be directly supervised in the water and within arm’s reach of a guardian 16
years of age or older. Maximum three children under 9 years of age per
guardian. Participants aged 9 and up may be required to participate in
a facility swim test to determine their swimming level. Those who pass the
facility swim test may swim in the deep end. Those who do not pass the
facility swim test must remain in the shallow end.
Facility Swim Test – To successfully pass the facility swim test, participants
must: swim 25 metres with the ability to put their face in the water; take at
least one (1) breath without putting their feet on the bottom of the pool;
and, tread water for one (1) minute. The swim admission standard applies
to all swims. Aquatics staff may ask for a demonstration of swimming ability
if they feel there is a question of a participant’s safety.
What Should my Baby Wear in the Pool? – Babies should wear baby swim
diapers or plastic pants under a bathing suit. Swim diapers are available to
purchase for $2 at the Customer Service Desk.
Changerooms – Children under 7 years of age may use any changeroom
accompanied by an adult 16 years of age or older. Children 7 years of
age and over must use the appropriate gender changeroom. The Centre
Dufferin Recration Complex has a family changeroom, which may be used
by either gender. For safety reasons, no strollers are allowed in the shower
area or or on the pool deck.
Personal Property – Participants are responsible for their personal belongings while participating in programs. Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex
assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items. Lockers are available in the
pool changerooms. You must provide your own lock and remove it when
you leave.
Day Care and Senior/Adult Swim – Swims targeted to parents with young
children, seniors and special needs patrons.
Public Swim – Pool toys and personal flotation aids are allowed in the shallow end. Please check with our lifeguards for approval.
Age of Participants – Most children’s programs/activities are age-specific.
We ask that you respect these guidelines which were developed to serve
the best interests of all participants, and to ensure an enjoyable experience
in our programs.
Important Note – Recreational swimming hours may change due to special
events or program needs. Changes will be posted one week prior to event.
Parents should ensure that children have not eaten at least one hour prior
to swimming to reduce the risk of vomiting while swimming. If your child
is not feeling well, consider the health of others and do not participate in
the program. Pool facilities may close without notice due to maintenance
issues or pol fouling.
Lesson Notes – Please prepare your child for a male or female instructor.
Staff cannot accommodate preference of instructor.
Payments – Payment must be received before lessons begin. Missed classes will
not be rescheduled or refunded. Please ensure that you check the dates and
times that you have booked for your lessons. The CDRC accepts cash, cheque
and debit payments.
CDRC POOL INFORMATION
Swimming Pool – The Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex provides an outdoor 13m x 25m, six-lane lap pool. Note: If you would like to rent one of the
pools, or for more information contact the CDRC Pool.
Accessibility – The Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex pool has a chairlift
available for getting in and out of the water. When you arrive at the facility,
contact a staff member for assistance with the proper entrance and equipment. Gradual steps into the water are also available.
Medical Conditions – Please inform the Lifeguards if you have a medical condition. In the interest of public health and safety the Lifesaving
Society requires that “individuals with a serious medical condition be
directly supervised by an adult who is familiar with the condition and

Rzone
What is the Rzone?
How you can help
The Rzone is an operating procedure that identifies a code
of conduct shich applies to all Town of Shelburne recreation
and cultural centres, facilites, parks and programs. The Rzone
procedure enforces a set of expectations around violence,
vandalism and inapproprriate behaviour for participants and
the general public.
• Clean up after your group activities such as picnics
and sports tournaments in Town parks
What does the Rzone mean?
The “R” in the Rzone logo stands for Respect and Responsibility. Respect for Yourself; Respect for Others; and Responsibility
for your Actions. The logo will serve as a reminder to staff
and the public that the operating procedure is in effect and
applies to everyone: coaches, parents, players, performers,
audiences and visitors.
Goal
The goal of the Rzone operating procedure is to improve the
safety and leisure environment in all Town of Shelburne recreation and cultural centres, facilities, parks and programs.
Community organizations, residents, visitors and Town staff will
work together to promote respect and responsibility, improving
the safety, appearance and environment of our community.
• Remember to respect property, materials and
equipment when using services or participating in
programs at our community centres, arena and parks
• Report such items as graffiti, broken glass or burnt
out lights in any Town facility or park
• Report vandalism such as a park bench in need
of repair or playground equipment that has been
tampered with
• Report suspicious behaviour
such as a person peeking
into parked cars
• Report activities such as
verbal assults, threats/
aggression, physical
harm, alcohol
consumption,
theft and harassment

SHELBURNE POLICE
A TRADITION OF SERVICE
SCAMS - DON’T BECOME A VICTIM
The main means of communication that
fraudsters use to target the public are: websites, emails, telemarketing and regular mail.
Fraudsters take advantage of modern
communication tools to avoid any “face to
face” contact with victims. Fraudsters use
fictitious names, addresses and identities to
avoid apprehension by law enforcement.
Often fraudsters register phone numbers,
websites and email accounts with fictitious
information. Victims are asked to send
money using money transfer services to
another jurisdiction or country.
The more common schemes include:
• Canada Revenue Agency Scam
• Grand Parent or Emergency Scam,
• Advanced Fee Loan,
• Secret Shoppers,
• Bank Investigator Scam
• Attorney Collection Scam,
• Lottery/Sweepstakes,
• Fraudulent Work at Home Offers,
• Internet Auction Overpayment/
Reimbursement,
• Internet Auction Advanced Fees,
• Internet Auction Ghost sales,
• Fraud loss Recovery Scam.
TIPS
Consumers are reminded to be diligent
and cautious when engaging in financial
transactions not in person. Some of the
below tips may be helpful in preventing this
type of fraud:
• Never use verification information provided
by the other party engaged in the financial
transaction. The address provided by the
other party may be false and the phone
number may be registered to a fictitious
name. Many scammers use toll free phone
numbers to add to the appearance of
legitimacy. They use mail box addresses that
appear to be suites in well known financial

a murder mystery performed by
the Dundalk Little Theatre, while
enjoying another fabulous dinner
prepared by local chef Jason
Reiner. Cash bar. All proceeds
towards Hall improvements.
